Explorer.exe is not running after logon

XP Home SP3, Microsoft updates current running.  Also running avast! 6 free 3.54 Sandboxie, Windows Defender, COMODO Firewall (free) Malwarebytes Anti-Malware free, SUPERAntispyware Free Edition, PC Tools ThreatFire.  Firefox 4.0.1 and also installed IE8.

Only three of these programs are running real time: avast!, COMODO, ThreatFire and Sandboxie when running a browser.

Updated definition files scanning shows the system to be clean.  System runs very quickly and smoothly.

Problem: Explorer.exe will not start after login.  Desktop is missing, taskbar, tray system, clock, start button and desktop icons and system stalls.  Check the Task Manager shows explorer.exe has not been loaded.  The first couple of times this happened it, CTRL + ALT + DELETE is the Task Manager, and I chose restart from, even when you are connected, and then explorer.exe should boot and load.

I have not checked yet to see, if and when this condition occurs again, if explorer.exe is going to load by clicking New Task Manager tasks.

Safe mode and running last last known good configuration worked the last time.

What should I look for in the registry?

  • Explorer.exe does not work correctly.

    Hello everyone.

My name is George Sebros and I have a Toshiba Satellite A300.
The reason why I post this new topic, it is that I need a little help from someone who knows something about my above problem:
One day, about 2 months ago... I turn on my Satellite A300.
When he connected, not only none of my icons appeared but also the start menu does not...
The only thing that appeared in a screen totally BLACK, has been my folder "Documents and Settings" which opened automatically.
There was no way I could find neither the start menu (I mean the taskbar), or my icons...
So, whenever I close the Documents and Settings folder that had appeared, the only thing I could see was a black screen...
It was a kind of shock to me and I couldn't believe my eyes...

After a few days, I tried the well-known combination "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" to see what was working and what was not.
Then I pressed the 'FILE', then 'NEW TASK' and finally, I typed the word 'explorer' in there.
That's all! Suddenly, all turn to normal like the day before the problem started. I was happy with it, I could use my Satellite A300 again!
However, it is an indirect way to do my work PC!
This means that I'm still fain to use this indirect way to make the icons and the taskbar appears.
This means that the 'explorer.exe' does not work?
Many programs registry I use notify me on some HKY... files that contain DATA NON. I have to let you know that the explorer.exe is located in the (empty) folders.
It indicates that transplant programs that I use, point out the problem I have?
    Can someone help me?

I don't want to use the safe option of FORMATTING (also known as the FORMAT).
    Thanks in advance,
    George A. Sebros

    Hello

Seems that your Vista is confused upward
You can try to clean the registry and operating system in order to avoid the new installation of the OS.
    Please use the CCLeaner.

I use this tool as well for free and it cleans the registry and other files at the time.
    It really helps!

But if the BONE still does not work properly then you should try a new installation
Of course, this procedure is radically because the HARD disk should be formatted, but on the other hand, you will get a clean and functional BONE

one) don't you recall making any changes to the computer before this happened?

    (b) what exactly happens when you sign in to your account?  You get a specific error message?

Step 1: Let us check if the problem persists in safe mode

  • Explorer.exe does not start at startup, and it does not display beyond the logon screen?

I have a friends Compac laptop and he managed to stop loading explorer.exe when starting after logon is complete. I can't for the life of me remember what I have to do to restore this process in the startup routine so that his office will be in charge. He has an extraordinary number of startups, but he managed to remove this (essential) program, especially in lists of useless junk that is responsible.

It's a compact with an Intel processor running Vista and of course it doesn't have the ERD. There is a recovery on the hard drive partition and if I knew how to use it, maybe this would a repair option, but I'm not clear on how to use either because there is no literature or what he had with the computer. By way of explanation, he is a foster child and had been tossed around a lot, so it's not too surprise that it doesn't have any of these materials.

Go to this site and download the tool in a removable device like flash memory:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

And then start your PC and press the F8 key repeatedly and start in safe mode and then run the tool of flash and complete analysis of the system memory.

Think about it an absolute must - manually update your drivers.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.
    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/HT/driverdlmfgr.htm

Installation and update of drivers under Windows 7 (updated drivers manually using the methods above
It is preferable to ensure that the latest drivers from the manufacturer of system and device manufacturers are located)
    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html

If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
get new manually if you wish.
