Explorer.exe using 20% + cpu

After long hours of game explorer.exe will take up to almost 1 CPU to itself. When I look in the process monitor it sems to read the same file over and over again. The file name is atiumd.cap.

This file seems to be related to the ATI Catalyst driver. It may be interesting to try different versions of the driver.

  • Explorer.exe using 50% CPU

My Vista has suddenly become almost unusable.  Task Manager shows explorer.exe uses 50% of the CPU.  I rebooted a couple of times.  If I use the Task Manager to kill him I can run programs using the application tab.  The computer works well without exploring. But then I don't have a task bar so I hope it's temporary.  I ran the windows malicioussoftwqare removeal tool - who found nothing.  The program is c:\windows\explorer.exe.

    Does anyone know the solution?

Many times when someone experiences this problem, it may be due to add-ons explore or shell extensions. Consider using Sysinternals Autoruns or ShellExView. Disable Add-ons and non Microsoft shell extensions and verify the behavior.  If he went, reactivate the disabled extensions/add-ons, one at a time and see if you can identify who may be liable.

Try a clean boot, or boot into safe mode.  The behavior persists?

You can use Process Explorer from Sysinternals to check the stack of the thread using the most CPU in the explorer.exe process, when you experience the behavior.  When Explorer uses the CPU as you have indicated, double-click the process in Process Explorer and go to the tab of the Threads.  Sort the list of threads by Cycles Delta (descending) and note the thread at the top. Double-click it and discovered its stack. Look for third-party modules (extensions of shell or modules, AV software, etc.) in the stack.  Disable (Autoruns or ShellExView, maybe) / uninstall these components, reboot and see if the behavior is affected.

Hi, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x 64. Randomly, the svchost.exe (fontcache) service will start using 99% of my cpu, everything a lot. Specifically, it starts happening when I play Team Fortress 2, but it also happens while I play the game. During a match, making the game lag, giving me a very large ping 2000ms + and no fps. AVG anti-virus

    Pidgin (AIM client)

    Skype

    Google chrome

    Windows media player

Any help would be great, it becomes annoying random having my computer be bogged down for no reason. Let me know if you need more information

Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions.  Actually, I found another person who had this problem.  Their solution was to remove the additions of the shell that nvidia added to when you right-click on the desktop and things.  This has solved the problem, at least until now...  It's 3 days now without problem and also fixed my problem Explorer.exe crashing several times when I was reviewing the files :)

If anyone is wondering how to disable programs that have been added to the hull, use shexview.

  • Explorer.exe causes high CPU usage!

Hi, recently I added new music for my laptop, including both .mp3 and .wav files. As such, I discovered spikes in my use of a CPU
slow from 3% to 63% and more. After research, I came to realized that when a corrupted .wav files containing folder is opened, Windows Explorer calls the Media Foundation (Mf.dll) function to retrieve the metadata of the .wav files. However, Mf.dll function enters an infinite loop during extraction of metadata.

However, only those files are accessible so high use of the processor occurs if, and after that I reload it would return to normal at rest 3%
Research led me to discover that Microsoft has a hotfix.exe application that would help me solve my problem on the other hand, it is not currently available.
Is there anyway that I can fix this?
    Thank you

    Hello

Thanks for posting the question on Microsoft Community Forums.

According to the description, you have the .wav files damaged in a folder on a computer that is running Windows 7.

You have the third-party codecs installed on the computer?

This problem can also occur if you have the codecs installed on the computer and could not play the files.

    Method 1:

Are you referring to this same fix article:

High utilization of the processor in the Explorer.exe process when you open a folder with .wav files corrupted in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/976417

It indicates that the fix is available and you can download and install.

    Method 2:

If the problem persists, perform the check and scan SFC.

Try scanner SFC [SFC system] on the computer that would be a system file corrupt on the computer search and replace.

Hope this information helps. Please reply with the status so that we can help you.

    Hi Anurakta,

Rundll32.exe is a Windows system file, but it can also be associated with the Whisper B virus.

  • WksCal.exe using 50% CPU

Overview of resources shows that WksCal.exe uses 50% of the CPU resource. For a feature that I even don't use it seems to be down. I know that I can turn it off, but I'm more interested to know if this is an indication of other problems.

    Hello RobtC,

    Thank you for posting.
wkscal.exe process is the civilian component of MsWorks. It works similar to a traditional calendar, which allows you to schedule meetings and set reminders etc. If you find useful MsWorks calendar, you must leave the wkscal.exe running process.

My theory as to why it would be to use 50% CPU, is that it could be synchonizing with a mobile device as in the link here

Please let me know if this has been helpful for you.

If it will not block an error message appears that the Explorer has stopped working and must be restarted. Once again this problem arises sometimes and his sweet sometimes.

Please suggest a fix for this problem, I was unable to obtain a solution of the interview here ppl.

Often, a certain instability in Windows Explorer is due to the defective shell extensions and addons.
If you continue to experience the problem, consider creating the hierarchy of following registry keys in the registry:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Windows error Reporting\LocalDumps\explorer.exe\
In the explorer.exe key, create a REG_EXPAND_SZ value named DumpFolder and set the value to%systemdrive%\localdumpsdata.  Ensure that the %systemdrive%\localdumps file exists, and then cause the crash to happen.  It must be a dump file in %systemdrive%\localdumps. Download the dump on your SkyDrivefile.

  • SearchFilterHost.exe using 50% + cpu - not a new computer power

Since yesterday SearchFilterHost.exe uses 50%-90% of my cpu power. I had the current installation of windows on this computer since a year or two ago and the temptation of power today my hard drive.  I tried stopping the service, but he returned after about a minute of it being stopped. This makes it difficult to make my computer work correctly.

    Hello

Were there any changes (hardware or software) to the computer before the show?

SearchFilterHost.exe is the process of Windows search. He is involved in indexing, caching, etc.

Method 1: Disable it. File extension XML to be indexed in Indexing Options and check if the problem is resolved.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/improve-Windows-searches-using-the-index-frequently-asked-questions

Method 2: Run a full scan of the system using the Microsoft Safety Scanner to eliminate any virus/malware problem.

    Note:
The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

  • Iexplore.exe - USE HIGH CPU - 50% (dual processor) - Windows Vista Home Premium

    Help, please!

My HP dv9000 is slow.  PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT INFO YOU NEED ME!  In the Task Manager, under the terms of 'process', it indicates that there are FOUR INSTANCES of internet explorer running, but I only have one window open (with a tab).  I hear my hard drive constantly running and it drives me crazy (and make me cry for my poor computer).  The 4 iexplore.exe (IE8) use respectively 110 000 - 82 300-78 000 - and 8000 K.  Is this normal?

I don't know if we are more concerned by the "CPU" column or in the column "memory (private beach).  In the CPU column, HP Digital Imaging Monitor uses 50.  Is this normal?

Please, I just want my computer to be able to relax.  I'm afraid it's going to explode (not literally, but that's what it looks like!).

    Thank you

  • SVCHOST. EXE using 100% CPU

    I have a Pentium (R) 4 CUP 2.4 GHz running Windows XP Home Service Pack 3 5.1.

In the last month, I updated my virus software - ZoneAlarm - and downloaded Google Earth.   Meanwhile, there was also many windows updates automatic including IE8.   Since the download of the update to ZoneAlarm I have the BSOD a few times (the BSOD said ' corrupted driver MMMPOOL or similar) but after reboot it was fine.

We had a few fluctuations in power a couple of days but the computer is connected to the battery of emergency relief so has been closed properly.   When the power was restored properly the computer started and the BSOD came once again.  You had to reboot a few times in safe mode, and then selecting the option "last settings that worked.  Since then, every restart was fine (no BSOD).

I ran a full scan, update ZoneAlarm for updates.   It is a Trojan horse that he deleted on reboot.  However, everything was very slow and firefox who previously worked very well kept freezing.  Outlook Express has been extremely slow.   IE8 was still slower than firefox.   I've updated to the latest version of Firefox, but no improvement, or worse!

The Task Manager showed the CPU usage to 100%.

Then I ran a CHKDSK and defrag because it had not been for some time.

After that, the CPU usage is 100% yet once (I dunno what I used to take me to check this again.)  A SVCHOST. EXE program was the culprit to 99.   I finished the program and it came with a warning message indicating the process server Launcher DCOM had been canceled and the system has been restarted.   The PID of this program was 868.

After a reboot, it seemed better.  I used Outlook Express OK, but as soon as I launched a browser, the CPU usage went straight to 100%.   Even if I close the browser, he remained at 100% and has remained there since.

Online access is practically impossible on this computer, I use another computer to get help!

Advice would be welcome.    Please note that I'm not terribly computer advice should be simple and basic English.  TIA.

Remove the Trojan from your computer, it is stiil in your computer.
    Your computer will work normally.
Your alarm zone anti virus program or fire wall only? or both?
If you analyze the pc and the answer no viruses not detected.
I swuggest you use another antivirus program by stopping zoenalarm temperory or delete, in mind that 2 anti programs antivirus at the same time on the pc will be a conflict, so you should disabel or one of them or remove.

    1. right click on the my computer icon go to System Restore then put a tik on judgment system for all stations restore, apply, then ok.
    2. complete the system scan and remove Trojan horse if you can find or put a carentien if you don't know what to do.
    3. restart the computer and see if it works properly and also run full system scan new .If it is clean your pc is now 100% clean of the Trojan horse.
4 after 1 or 2 days also scan your computer and then repeat step no.1 again by going to the system restore and yesterday to cancel the tik put you on the restoration of the system shutdown for all stations, apply, then ok.
