I get the following message is displayed when I bring some lists of files in a directroy on my C: drive and also when you look at other directories on the other pc is my Vista machine. (other machines running XP and have no problems).  I do turn Norton Antivirus without any problems, you run malware and no problems to speak of.  This all started I think during updates October 2011 MS and I don't have any restore points left will support this far.  See more about messages I receive.  I was uninstall as many updates in October as it will unistall without effect.  Any suggestion on how to solve this problem. ?

If it was Windows Internet explore (IEXPLORE. (EXE), it would not v6.0.6002.18005 (which is Windows Explorer in Vista SP2).

In any case, Yes, it is time to "wipe n recharge."

  • Install Vista Service Pack 1

    I recently had to reinstall my computer & operating system (Vista).  Then, I've updated the Vista service pack 1.  However, although the history of the update indicates that the service pack has been updated "successfully", it does not seem to be that when I check the Windows Update menu and available updates, Vista Service Pack 1 (KB936330) is visible for the update.  In addition, recently, I tried to install Norton 360 and I get a message that the software is not compatible with my computer/operating system, I need to have, among a list of operating systems, Vista Service Pack 1 or later updated.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you

    Thanks for the helpful tips.  However, I've solved my problems by downloading a stand along Service Pack 1 (instead of repeating the download task in my menu "Download availble").  I was able to update SP1, and more importantly see as Service Pack 1 edition of Windows in the "basic information" for my system.  After that road, I was able to install my new Norton 360 Security drive with no problems.

    Thanks again to this community for your quick response.

  • The printer status window Interface stopped working and was closed. How can I fix it?

    When I try to print I get the following message from Microsoft Windows: Printer Status window Interface stopped working and was closed. A problem with the application to stop functioning properly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.

    I have never received a Windows solution.  Once I have selected an email or other document to print and then click on print, nothing happens.  I then log out of windows and then reopen in an and the document will be printed.

    How can this problem be fixed?

    Hi all!

    This is usually resolved with a driver updated from the manufacturer.
    I highly recommend updating the driver to see if that takes care of the issue. If you need help, find the driver for your printer, please provide the make and model and I will do my best to find the right one for you.

  • Acer aspire has stopped working after I installed vista service pack, a

    After installing Vista service pack 1, I was unable to restart my computer. Nothing has worked. I went through the Startup Repair, but it ran all night and nothing. I have no disk, so I tried to do a system restore, but still nothing. I know very little computers if you can give me some details step by step on the following questions would be most appreciated.

    (1) how do I back up my data

    (2) how to restore my system

    Thank you

    Craig

    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Data recovery:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons). +

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .
    There is no Vista free download legal available.
    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.
    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.

    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.

    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11, Acer is normally Alt + F10 at startup to start the recovery process...

    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s since the Partition of recovery in case of hard drive failure or System Crash, when you are replaying the ad.
    .
    They will tell you how to do this.
    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Or borrow a good Microsoft Vista DVD (not Dell, HP, Acer, recovery disk/s etc).
    A good Vista DVD contains all versions of Vista.
    The product key determines which version of Vista is installed.

    There are 2 disks of Vista: one for 32-bit operating system, and one for 64-bit operating system.

    If install a cleaning is required with a good DVD of Vista (not HP, Dell recovery disks):

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

    This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

    This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

    -Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
    For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
    Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.
    http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/DriverView.html

    For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
    Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
    your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
    Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
    Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

    Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
    with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

    Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
    Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
    BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

    Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

    Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
    presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
    in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

    Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check
    manually by model.

    Look at the sites of the manufacturer for drivers - and the manufacturer of the device manually.

    If you update the drivers manually, then it's a good idea to disable the facilities of driver under Windows
    Updates, that leaves about Windows updates but it will not install the drivers that will be generally
    older and cause problems. If updates offers a new driver and then HIDE it (right click on it), then
    get new manually if you wish.

  • Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465) not __will not install - constant judgment of Internet Explorer

    I couldn't after several attempts to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (KB948465).  I finished all of the instructions that will appear on the screen to fix this problem and nothing works.  I'm not a PC geek and want just to get this update loaded.  I hope that this will solve the constant stop my IE WHENEVER I use it.  I'm at a point where I want to just remove Vista and go back to XP.  I NEVER had a problem with it.

    Please contact something that can do a non-techie.  I look at all these forums, but I don't really know how to do all this.  So, unless there are instructions step by step, I'm a lost soul.

    Thank you

    Scappi

    Applications, (Norton and McAfee) are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself.

    [You may want to print these instructions for reference offline. If a step said to reboot, reboot.]

    1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    1B. download the tool McAfee Consumer Product Removal, save it to your desktop: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

    4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

    NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #7 below!

    5. right click on the file that you saved in step # 1 above and select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    5. right-click on the file that you saved in step # 1 b above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then reboot again.

    NOTE: Do NOT activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

    7. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate (Norton) until you get a prompt "no update more".

    8. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 & run the difficulty.

    9. open Internet Explorer (only) to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run it in DEFAULT and modes difficulty then AGGRESSIVE. [1]

    10. restart once again & test.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    [1] full Disclosure: the difficulty operating in AGGRESSIVE mode will remove your update history but not the list of installed updates.
    Hello
    What version of the windows operating system is installed in the computer?
    I suggest you to see link and check. (That applies to windows vista and windows 7)?
    Error: Windows Explorer has stopped working
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2694911
    Note: After checking in the clean boot, follow step: 7 article to reset your computer to normal startup.
    Note that it takes as much time to do the upgrade as to reinstall the operating system. In addition, some of your custom Windows settings may be lost through this process.
  • Explorer Windows has stopped working. Name of the damaged file: wmp.dll
    Original title: Windows Explorer has stopped working
    There seems to be a lot of discussion on this issue.  I tired some of the patches, but some of my numbers seem different from what other people have.  The problem is on my laptop.  I try to connect to my router and have internet access.  My office is a new computer with Windows 7 installed.
    When I try to open my network center and sharing on my laptop, the computer thinks for a while, and then I get the Windows Exporer stopped working window.
    Thank you
    Kevin.
    Hey Kevin,
    You will need to run the command above in the elevated command prompt.
    Refer to this step help: How to run a command with elevated privileges?
    After you run the command of high fashion, you should get the message, "" DLLRegisterServer in wmp.dll managed."
    Also, you can run the method 2 regardless of the success or failure of the method 1. Please try these methods first and see how it goes.
    Normally, it is appropriate to fix this problem by running SFC scan and you would not need to copy the file.
    Kind regards
