Extend my cable modem network via Airport express and Time Capsule

I am trying to expand my home network through my Airport express AND a Time Capsule. Installation of extension through the airport was easy and successful. I then tried to expand further with Time Capsule, but it gives me the opportunity to launch a new network. What do different to fix my Tim Capsule to my global network?

I then tried to expand further with Time Capsule

Unfortunately, it is not possible to do what you want... given that the function of "extend a wireless network" Apple will not accept to be extended once the network is not two.

The other question that you probably, it is that unless your 'main' router is also another router from Apple, the Express is not really 'extension' of the network at all, despite what you think.  More likely, the Express is "membership" in the network. It can be used to connect a USB printer remote in this environment or for use with AirPlay... but the Express doesn't "spread" or "repeat" when he joined the network.

If you want to check if the Express is really extend the network, and you have a Mac laptop... after back and provide you with a few steps.

But even if the Express could be the extension of the network... Time Capsule will have to connect to the network using a permanent, wired cables Ethernet... ideally to your main router, but it might work OK if you connect to the Express.

Your unbroken lines in airport show connections ethernet utility... broken lines show the wireless connections.

I think at this moment, things are configured wrongly... for some strange reason things happens and elements on a stand-alone basis, return to a default mode.

The best way to manage it is full factory reset on everything... and repeat the installation.

I have no more WiFi which extends from the express airport and Time capsule.

It seems to me that you extend a NON-APPLE router... in this case, your Apple routers must connect by ethernet and create a wireless network. Routers Apple cannot extend the NON-APPLE router wired.

The express could extend the TC or visa versa... by wireless...

Then I suggest say us what is the main router in the network?

You have connected by ethernet to the TC or Express or both?

If so please reset completely the two elements and try again. Make sure they are in bridge mode... It's the network tab. Router Mode is turned off.

And your wireless tab is configured to create a wireless network...

Use the same name (SSID) and even the security setting and the password as the main router to network roaming (extend wireless ethernet).

If the Express and transport CANADA are the same, both will have this configuration... If the express extends to wireless then it should NOT be connected to all the way to ethernet... (sequel to wan side at least) and it will be set to expand wireless on the wireless tab.

  • Airport Extreme and Time Capsule of airport work together?

I have time capsule and airport extreme. I need to decide if I should sell Airport extreme or is there a way for the two to work together to expand the wifi. Airport extreme can be connected to time capsule and extend the range?

AirPort Extreme can extend the time Capsule network in one of two ways:

    (1) for the best performance, the AirPort Extreme is located in the heart of the area where most of the wireless coverage is needed, and it would connect to the time Capsule using wired Ethernet wired, permanent.

    (2) AirPort Extreme can connect to the Time Capsule wireless network and to extend the network in this way, if you're ready locate AirPort Extreme to halfway between the Capsule and the area that needs more coverage wireless... And... accept a drop in performance of half of the potential maximum speed on the network.

  • Time capsule airport unplug my Airport Express and internet

    Howdy,

I just brought my Airport Time Capsule of the work. I have the joint via an Ethernet cable to my extreme, both are in my basement. Upstairs, I have a set Express in place to expand the wireless. The extreme and Express worked for many years now.

Once the time Capsule has been recognized in the public services of the airport, he made an update of the firmware.

After that, I edited the settings for the time Capsule to my home network and set it to "develop wireless."

Extreme, Express and Time Capsule all had them green to light up in public services - so I tried to run a Time Machine backup, and things went sour.

The cable modem the extreme is connected to started to abandon the connection every 30-45 seconds and the Express light went red and there is no longer recognized, so I clicked "forget" to remove it. Time Machine could not locate the time Capsule.

So I unplugged the Time Capsule, all rebooted and now my extreme and Express up and running again.

    What waste?

    Thank you

    Dan

After that, I edited the settings for the time Capsule to my home network and set it to "develop wireless."

I think you probably mean "extend a wireless network".

This is the bad setting... because it would be used only if the time Capsule connected to your network using Wireless.  You specify the Time Capsule connects using Ethernet.

Here is what is happening now... the time Capsule waiting for a wireless connection, but he gets an Ethernet connection.  This translates into a huge feedback loop that effectively blocks your network.

The correct setting for the time Capsule would be "create a wireless network"using the same exact wireless network name, security and password as other Apple routers. " Finally, make sure that the time Capsule is set to run in Bridge Mode before you click Update to save the new settings.

  • Help with Airport Express and Configuration capabilities

I have a new Airport Express which is set to expand the network wireless (created by Time capsule).  Is it possible to also provide a wired connection to another device in this mode?  If so, how do I need to change the settings? The other device is a hub of lighting (not wireless) which must have an Internet connection to allow remote control of lights.  It is currently connected to the CT but its location does not cover a part of the House, the new AE is the perfect place.

Is it possible to also provide a wired connection to another device in this mode?

    Yes

If so, how do I need to change the settings?

Some settings need to be changed. By default, both the "O" WAN port and port LAN <>- both act as LAN ports. Choose one or both to an active Ethernet connection.

The other device is a hub of lighting (not wireless) which must have an Internet connection to allow remote control of lights.

Turning off the hub of lighting, make the Ethernet connection to the AirPort Express and the hub of power upward. You should be in business.

  • is there a way (or an app?) to set up a local proxy server on the airport extreme or time capsule?

    Hello

If you have the answer! I'll be so happy!

is there a way (or an app?) to set up a local proxy server on the airport extreme or time capsule?

    Thanks for your time!

    BR,

    Stéphane

All routers, including the AirPort base station, run as a transparent proxies for the local network behind them. However, if you are talking about the possibility of proxy requests between the LAN and Internet, then no, the airport base stations do not have a native function to support doing so.

The two common methods to accomplish this are: 1) use a proxy on your local network, or 2) use a DNS, like OpenDNS service, which offers proxy services.

  • drive external hard connected via usb hub powered Time Capsule guard fall...

    Hello.

Try using a player external 3.5 "connected via USB hub powered to my Time Capsule to serve as a backup Time Machine secondary.

When I connect the external hard drive, it turns out, and everything seems good (Yes it is correctly formatted). I see the external hard drive in my time machine preferences panel and also the desktop browser window, etc..

After selecting the drive hard as the second backup TM, I start TM. After a few minutes the backup fruitbodies. Audit of airport utility, the drive no longer appears in the profile of Time Capsule. I can't turn back the drive without unplugging / plugging the USB cord. I went to HD (WD green 4to) and HGST 4to - deleted both.

What is the speaker (the box is powered)? Can you have a USB hub between the external hard drive and time capsuls? Something else?

Just seems like something somewhere that expire, causing it to drop the connection...

Thanks for your useful suggestions to fix this!

Is your TC the Gen5, model AC?

I must say that your experience is not uncommon. I tested it myself recently and was disappointed in how the poor reliability has been... Although not as bad as yours... in fact cutting in a few minutes to start a backup is ridiculous.

What is the speaker (the box is powered)?

Quality of the envelope varies a lot... What is it??

If this is the typical brand X... Plug it into your Mac. is it reliable?

Go to your control panel and dig up the actual USB chip used... I don't know if we can help on type a lot. But it helps us determine the fleas are a problem.

I found the hard drive in the finder to mount helped... not the sparsebundle that must be mounted by Time Machine... but the disk must be mounted in the finder so that you can copy files back to him.

I start TM. After a few minutes the backup fruitbodies.

Check in the finder, it has created the sparsebundle and works.

Can you have a USB hub between the external hard drive and time capsuls?

It's our usual recommendation... but he won't always help... especially if the USB hub is another brand X...

Note that all societies are changing USB tokens at the drop of a hat... some seller of a rival company arrives and offers them 1 c off the coast of 1 million chips it is common to spend even in the middle of a race. Even the tenors have no satisfactory fixed hardware...

The computer has loads of memory... and may contain drivers for hundreds of different USB tokens... but the TC is a very limited amount of space and with questions if the driver is not fair.

I started a thread for a database just now... has not progressed much.

  • SB6141 and Time Capsule works best not Modem?

I bought an ARRIS / Motorola SB6141 modem yesterday, unfortunately without checking here first of all support and as much I having trouble to get a SB6141 and Time Capsule to cooperate.  The modem works fine with a hard line, but when I plugged in my Time Capsule for the modem I got the dreaded flashing yellow on the TC light. Three hours of reading posts here (and elsewhere) and troubleshooting later and I am still at a loss. Rather than the fight over trying to get the SB6141 to work, I would rather just buy a modem that works (at least mostly) with the TC. I am in the area of Chicago on Comcast. List of approved here modems. Please let me know if you have found a good modem to use with time Capsule. Thanks for any help!

Additional details - I bought time Capsule 2 TB in March this year and it's all so far (ongoing enforcement, I think, 7.7.3)

Not on Comcast, but the use of two modems in rotation.

Zoom 5341J and Netgear CMD31T, who all have both been impeccable since they went into service almost 2 years ago.

  • Need a cable Modem (have an Airport Extreme)

I am a subscriber of internet high speed from Comcast in the Chicago area.  I have their most recent Wireless Gateway that supports the 802.11ac fall on my newly upgraded Airport Extreme.  I'm looking to buy my own cable modem and seeks recommendations based on the information.

Anyone who wants to help out? Thank you!

In fact, I would like to start with modems that that Comcast will be supported. The only ones you should avoid a potentially are the Arris / Motorola SB61XX-series modems as they have been known to be incompatible with airport base stations.

For recommendations, I suggest you Cisco, as the DPC3008 models.

  • Extend the iPhone hotspot using an airport express?

Is it possible to EXTEND - no JOIN - a 6 hotspot iPhone (iOS 9) using an Airport Express station (Terminal AirPort Express 802.11n (1st generation))?

    Sorry, but no.

  • Two express AirPort and time capsule connectivity challenge

    Dear readers,

I have a Time Capsule 802.11 ac connected to my ISP router and this is the router that provides DHCP addresses, etc. In our living room, I have an airport express (2nd generation) connected via radio and it works very well also. Now I got as a second AE (2nd generation) and want to put it on the floor of the attic to get a stronger signal via Ethernet to my TC. When I connect to a LAN of the TC port to the EI LAN port, the AE salon disconnects. When I add the Ethernet of AE cable in the WAN port both t he AE to the attic and TC disconnected. Currently, it is also connected via radio and it works, but will of course loose flow because it must still go through the different floors through the air compared to a stronger signal via Ethernet.

Question I have, can I connect an AE with an Ethernet cable (and how to set up the AE or TC as a result) and an adverse event via wireless (IE editing exsisting which works, but let me know if you have to configure changes too)?

    Your help is very appreciated.

Can question I have, I connect an adverse event with an Ethernet cable (and how to set up the AE or TC as a result)

Yes, but you will need to restart and reset back to default settings AE. Then connect the Ethernet cable between a LAN <>- on the TC port to the "O" of EI before WAN port you are trying to configure EI.

The problem that you are experiencing now is probably caused by connecting an Ethernet cable to an adverse event that has already been configured to "extend a wireless network. When EI is configured this way, is expected to Wireless ... not Ethernet. Ethernet is applied, it creates a feedback loop huge on the network which can cause all sorts of issues.

Wizard Installation from Apple because most of the work for you. Just click the WiFi icon at the top of the screen of the Mac and then click on AirPort Express under the title of the new AirPort base station.

When you click on AirPort Express, which will start the configuration "Wizard". It will take a few seconds to analyze the network, and then present a screen that looks like this:

Type a device name you want to call the AE, and then click Next.  Monitor the screen following very closely... See the illustration below to confirm that the AE is set up "extend using Ethernet.  Who will confirm that the wizard picked the Ethernet between the TC and AE and apply the correct settings to EI.

When you see the message Setup is complete, click done and you're done.

If the 'other' AE is already set up to extend, then no further changes will be necessary on this device.

  • How can I make it work with just an Apple TV, AirPort Express and iPod/iPad/iPhone?

Hello people of Apple, I have some questions about a new "setup" of Apple products that I hope I can get to work between them. In other words, I need to know if what I am wanting to do in fact is possible with this new configuration.

    Current set up:

    • mini iMac (a former member of 2010, but fully updated for OSX El Capitan)
    • drive external HARD as the Time Capsule disk and with tons of music not purchased through the iTunes store (from my CD collection)
    • Old Airport Express connected to the modem (which received the fiber of my ISP)
    • 3rd Gen iPad
    • iPhone 6 more (work phone)
    • iPod Classic 5th Gen with close to 30 GB of my library and plugged on my car stereo to
    • iPod Shuffle 4th Gen for gym

I want my setup to be:

    • Apple TV
    • Airport Extreme with external HARD disk * even from above * (my library backup iTunes music around, videos and photos) connected via USB
    • iPad Pro
    • iPhone 6 Plus
    • iPod Classic 5th Gen that I want to stay plugged into my car stereo to
    • iPod Shuffle 4th Gen for gym

So my questions are: can I continue to sync my iPod Classic and my iPod Shuffle without a computer (I guess maybe not), and if so, HOW? I'll be able to sync the iPad and iPhone via wifi without computer as well? Also, I'll be able to play my library directly from the drive external HARD using the Apple TV?

I'm guessing / hoping that the new Apple TV from the music/iTunes app and the pictures/iPhoto app, I can connect my iPod to the airport and synchronize them via the app AND connect Apple TV directly on the HARD disk via the airport. And perhaps also to synchronize the iPad and the iPhone on wifi in all Apple TV apps or something or maybe I just need any Uploader in iCloud and will not even need the HARD drive more except as a backup. Help!

You have need of computer-Mac or PC. You can sync the iPhone/iPad wireless, but only via a computer in iTunes, I'm not sure about the capacity of wifi iPod.  Not to mention the iTunes, the software is required to manage the devices and media.  Important note: you must always back up your purchases - just because you buy a book, movie, TV show, song today does not necessarily mean that the media will be available from Apple servers for eternity.  The Studios retain rights and may, at any time, sign an exclusive agreement with a network, streaming provider etc which would then remove this file to be available on Apple servers.  You must download and save purchases - that would need a computer running iTunes software. You could buy storage for all your media, but then additional personal iCloud yet you would need a computer to manage. In addition, with respect to the Apple TV, you cannot connect all readers.  The USB port is only for the restaurant and full-service.  The Apple TV is a streaming device, but for the local media, he uses homeshare, which requires a computer iTunes rather than be connected directly to a storage device.  Although there are other applications like plex or infusion but they would require a NAS configuration rather than the HARD disk, and you would want / need a computer to manage the NAS server...

the only thing you want to eliminate is the only thing that is required for all...

  • 970cse with airport express and USB printing

I have a hp 970cse on the network via a USB cable and the Airport express. Router is AirPort Extreme. iMac (OSX 10.9.2) sees and prints well wireless. iPad (IOS 7.1) is on the network, but can't find the printer. Prints from the possible ipad using this config? Thx for any help

Hello Darwinband welcome to the Forums of HP.

I see you are having problems printing from your iPad.  This printer doesn't support ePrinting or Airprinting, this printer is not compatible with an iPad. For more information, please consult this document on HP Web-Connected printers and support of the Services of Cloud.

  • Is it possible to use express Airport and Time Capsule both as two Wifi-repeaters at the same time?

    Hello

I have a time Capsule from the airport. I use it for my back ups and he repeats my wifi in the House (bottom).

Now I need a Repeater wifi upstairs. I think to buy Airport Express. I will connect the Airport express with a Lan connection on the floor. And then I would also have wifi on the floor.

But is it possible to use the time Capsule Airport express airport and at the same time: two repeaters-wifi?

    1. I have a Fritz! Box router / wifi (we called wifi Fritz! box)

    2. I have a time Capsule airport / wifi Repeater (we called the turtle wifi)

3 and now I want Airport express on the floor for the wifi upstairs (another name for this wifi?)

    Is this possible?

Before I had used TP-link (in socket), but it works for a few months.

Thank you for your help and advice.

    2. I have a time Capsule airport / wifi Repeater (we called the turtle wifi)

I think that your terminology wrong... the TC cannot work as a Repeater in the Frtiz.

I think that you have done is connect via ethernet and run it as wireless... or WAP Access Point. It is perfectly great way to do it.

3 and now I want Airport express on the floor for the wifi upstairs (another name for this wifi?)

This is connected by ethernet, then it will work fine... you can call it Expresswifi

You are certainly going to clutter the wireless channels, you could so be interesting rather than auto setting fastenings.

2.4 ghz has been set to 1, TC 6 and 11 Express then Frtiz.

5 GHz is less of a problem... auto should be fine, because the beach is mediocre.

  • Cable modem link slow w ISA570 and CLI 'See the tech' equivalent

Hi, I'm hand non-profit that has a link to 100mbs Mediacom, they get 90 + speed connected directly to the cable modem, but anywhere past the ISA570 they get only 50-60mbs. They spent the cables, added a port separated, tried different PCs, the results are the same, 50-60 MB max. In addition, it is their understanding that the ISA570 cannot do CLI, so how can they get the equivalent of a 'show tech' command in a file to be sent off site for troubleshooting, thank you. Jim

    Hello

Is there something similar to show tech CEP.

Log in to the web site GUI, go to device management > Cisco Services & support > Send Diagnostics.  At the bottom of this page is a download button that will collect the configuration file, newspapers and some outputs debugging in a zip file.  You can use this to troubleshoot the device, even though I generally prefer to be the device live webcam himself to see things.

Before digging too deeply into those however, what type of security services currently have enabled on the ISA?   I was looking on the Datasheet , and even if the SPI is capable of ~ 500mbps, when you start to enable security services these beginning of speeds to drop.

If we look at the flow measurements UTM (Unified Threat Management), which is roughly of 75mbps, which is pretty close to what you have found.  I go and disable various security services one at a time and test your speed.  My guess would be either A / V or IPS slows down your connection.  It can be one or a combination of these services, causing the slowdown.  You can disable these options, or just explain the extra security will cost a bit of speed.

    Hope that helps a little,
