Extend the life of the battery

What is the best way to extend the life of the battery of my laptop? It seems that different sites have different recommendations.

(1) should take you your battery whenever your laptop using power? Or only after only 2 weeks of all continuous power (like the HP website seems to recommend)?

(2) how many times should I condition the battery?

(3) when you use your battery, should be completely empty before recharging again to capacity?

Thank you very much! All tips are very much appreciated.

Hello

(1) should purchase your battery if it will be put off for two weeks.

(2) you need to calibrate your battery once a month

(3) calibrate your battery takes care of this.

    Hello world

I would like to ask you for advice. Given that I just bought this laptop, I would not my battery life shorten as soon as my old laptop. You plug the power cable when the battery is fully charged? Since I'm on cell regularly, 3 h battery is not enough for me. All do you advise me to take the battery out and use that? We hope to get all the valuable tips here. Thank you!

    Hi jimmytee,
After the available studies, newsletters and my experience, there is no need to remove the battery if fully charged when working with AC plugged in. It is recommended only to tell - and recharge the battery once a month, not more. You should not work with AC plugged on and removed the battery.
Furthermore, I'm fighting currently with the battery in a new unit. The battery itself was very fast discharge with the unit is turned off and removed ca connection. Now, the Toshiba service changed the battery. Will see how the situation will be after a few days.

  • Portege Z930: How to keep the battery alive as long as possible?

    Hello

Got a Portege Z930 recently, I do not know how to manage the recharge of the battery in order to maintain 'live' as long as possible.

I'm mainly using computer at home, to leave the battery and then recharge, but I'm not sure it's a good idea. I had an A-200 before satellite, also use it at home and keep connected all the time; After a few years, the battery capacity decreases

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

    > after a few years, the battery capacity decreases

It's nothing unusual after a few years of any battery would start to lose performance.
Generally speaking after 500 times charge cycles the battery begins to lose clean performance.

Of course you can remove the battery and could use the laptop only connected to the power adapter, but in this case, the laptop would shut down when making connection interrupted.

To extend the battery work, you will need to calibrate the battery from time to time.
To calibrate the battery, you must discharge the battery until it is completely empty. Then connect the power adapter and charge the battery up to full charge. Repeat this procedure two or three times in the line.

    Greetings.

I will be grateful if someone can help me answer my question, how do I extend my battery life... I don't want to say how many hours it can operate my laptop, but I mean to last for many years without change in its performance.

Some of my friends told me to remove the battery so I use alternating current, in fact I heard a lot of discussions on this subject and I really need a specific answer.

    Thank you

    Hello

You use your laptop most of the time to battery power?

95% of the time of work, I use my laptop on the power supply. To be honest I have never removed battery and battery operation is still almost 2 hours.
I use from time to time for computer laptop battery power. I leave the laptop running until the battery is almost empty. What you want to do?

  • Extend the life of my battery

Took my laptop out of its adapter for the first time tonight. I was amazed that after 90 minutes, it was still in the power of 83%.  If it is anywhere near a linear decrease in power, this battery will last very long before needing to be recharged.

Now to my question. I realize that a very long battery life is something that I can enjoy with this laptop. I like to keep this many long hours of charge, as long as possible. What are the best practices for the full maintenance of the battery charge, as long as possible?

    (1) normally, I keep my laptop plugged in when I'm at home, 24/7. It would quickly reduce the longevity of this battery? It's the easiest option for me, and that's what I'm used to.

    (2) should I drain to 5% and then recharge it, or can I consider only up to 30-70%?

    (3) how many times must I, drain before recharging? Do I do once per month, or all the time, or?

    Hey @paulri,

  • How to extend the life of battery U410?

    Hey guys,.

Just buy an IdeaPad U410 a few days ago. I tested the battery life, and it's pretty decent after uninstalling Smart Update (5-6 hours of occasional use).

However, due to my previous experience in the use of computers, Toshiba and Acer laptops, I'm afraid that self-government will reduce very quickly if I continue to load. How you guys deal with this problem? Is it possible to get another 5-6 hours of battery after, say, 1 year of owning this notebook?

(And I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I don't really know much about computers, haha)

    Thank you!

Please, open energy management, go into the settings of battery and check optimize for life. This will require less capacity but the battery life would greatly increase the laptop.

  • Want to extend the life of the battery in 5 days

    Hello

Maybe it's more than a request for a new feature for the Apple Watch.

I still need to use my fitbit when going hiking in the desert, because I can not connect my steps because of the battery of the watch.

What I want to do is to disable all the functions of the watch with the exception of the accelerometer to connect my steps.  I also remove the band and put it in a special wet belt clip case to protect it.  I hope that in this limited function, I could get 5 days of steps out of the appliance before the battery wore out.

Anyone know if this is possible?

    Thank you

    Hi Tom

    It is not currently possible.

  • Information about the life of the battery of Equium A100-306?

    Hello!
I have a Toshiba Equium A100-306 & am pleased with it.
Of course, I want to protect my investment & having been, in the past, concerned about battery 'memory', I was happy to find that this machine works with a battery lithium-ion - & everywhere I look I see words to the effect that:

"There is no memory and no regular bike not needed to extend the life of the battery.

I also found: a lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 charge/discharge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than complete discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no memory problem when unexpected expenses. »

Except, that is, Toshiba (citing the manual) say: "at least once a month, run the computer on battery power until the battery is completely discharged, then discharge the battery."
Then, they suggest "once a week" to ensure maximum capacity.
You will understand why I am confused? I would really appreciate someone stating the above.
Thanks for your time. Cheers, Peter.

    Hello

Perhaps they have not properly updated their textbooks? I Don t know, but is the only thing I can tell you, that new technologies in mobile systems such as yours are very modern and I think toshiba had a cool technology into their machines, so that systems of remain "without worry".

I suggest you read this article on the type battery that is in your machine so that you can understand the best technology:

Since the ICS update my battery life is 2 x worse than before on gingerbread. Here, I noticed that I'm not the only one with this problem. Is there and options I can do to improve the life of the battery? I noticed there is no way to switch back between 3G and 4G and basic data cannot be disabled now. I also noticed that they got rid of the task manager that really worked and force them to leave applications. I had to force quit never manually app since the update. Each app was running in the background. I've had this phone for extended battery life and if I use not the phone throughout the day and late at night I have 20% remaining battery, something is wrong. ICS has a lot of features, but if I had the chance to uninstall ICS I would.

  • Sansa Clip: Loading screen saver: can manually enable us to extend the life of the screen?

What charge the Sansa Clip: after an hour, the screen turns white (a screen saver, I guess).

I would like to activate the screen saver immediately, to extend the duration of the display.  Is it possible to do?

Or maybe in a version of firmware future, so a sequence button turn it on.

Unless the life of the screen is much longer than the lifetime of the unit in general...

    Thanks for your time.

As far as I know, you can't do it manually now.

This is the reason why some people with an adapter for recharging: when charging via AC, the display shuts off after setting the time of the backlight of your display.

Indeed, even if it bugs some of us, it is likely that display time of 1 hour during USB charging will not significantly affect the ultimate lifecycle of the screen, in the end; If I remember correctly, the screen has a life expectancy of 5000 hours or something like that (sorry, it's been a while) - it is 208 days of fulltime show all day/night long.  By the time you reach this point, probably, if ever, the battery life may have been reached, or you probably may have gone to another player, as technology improves over time.  But it's all unique to each user (if you are more rare than the user who guard 8 hours per day, life of the screen display will be reached about 1.7 years; if you use your player lot every day and are charging every day, charging via AC could save you 365 hours of projection of the time per year (, the equivalent of almost a month of 1.7 years screen time), and so you can recharge via AC just to cover as much as possible.  (More realistic, if your screen is on for 2 hours a day, which is still a lot, unless you really keep your screen on a lot, the screen should last for about 7 years or more - think where you will be and what technology you are using maybe at this time.)

  • The battery takes only 10 minutes and portable life time stopping randomly.

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite with Windows Vista. I got it for about 4 years, and since a few weeks ago my battery life has declined rapidly. Once it is fully charged, I unplug the unit and he said that I usually have about 13 minutes remaining until I have to reload. The battery used to last nearly 2 hours. 20% remaining capacity, my computer is asleep at random and locks. I have to wait a few minutes and then press the power button / stop and type in my password again. I already have my plan of the battery power as "Power Saver" that increases the battery life. I was prompted to change my setting of peak power, which I did, with no result. Here's what my settings are:

Critical battery action: sleep (cannot change this)
    Critical battery level: 1%
    Low battery action: do nothing
    Low battery: 3%
I changed numbers autour and nothing seems to work better than anything else. I'm really angry at the short battery life and falling asleep randomly. Can anyone help? Should I get a new laptop or just a new battery?

    Hello

4 years is a long time for a battery and degradation that you see is expected.

Old battery? Unplug the power to the computer - remove the battery and clean the contacts with a pencil
eraser (do not use this, if your battery is fine slots - just clean up the edges of the knife which fit in)
them and be careful). Batteries are old, or it could be a problem with the computer.
Check with the support of the machine system, and many of them have on line forums.

New Lithium-Ion type battery usually last longer if you do not unload then less than 30%
However on a laptop that not extend their life a lot. Best is to use the a/c adapter
