Extend the limits of hard drive
I have an Acer Aspire 5720 with 80 GB hard drive. However, the reader is divided 32.5 on drive C and 32.5 GB on the D drive. My C drive is full and I would like to add an external hard drive. I need to extend the limit of drive C to allow me to load software for external hard drive. The other alternative is to load software for D drive which is empty, but I don't know how to do this. Can pleasae you help me.
Stewart I Greig.
Hello.
You cannot add a small part of D: to C:.
It's all or nothing.
-What are you doing this > if ever you have given on D: you save which data > then you totally delete the D: and D: partion becomes now unallocated space > then extend you C: into this unallocated space to have a larger partition.
«How delete and extend a Partition with Vista disk management»
http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/95418-disk-management-delete-extend.html
See you soon.
p.s. This applies only to the Acer, as many manufacturers use D: as a recovery Partition.
Acer does not work. Their recovery partition is hidden.

Depending on your XP operating system, I suggest you use the free partition manager - Partition Wizard which can resize/move partition without losing data and extend NTFS system partition without reboot.

So basically I can't extend my 3 TB hard drive 3 TB because windows 8 is the treatment as a MBR. Error [0 x 80042468]
Background: after a bit of trouble to install windows 8 on my SSD, I had at one time install on my drive 3 TB of seagate for troubleshooting. Of course, this has reduced the reader to 2 TB for the MBR. I finally solved the problem by changing the mode AHCI instead of IDE interface and installed the OS on my SSD. To my dismay, I could not reclaim the unallocated space.
I tried to format the drive and delete volumes using disk management, windows 8 installation disc command prompt (you have the option to format and remove the disks and volumes). Basically, I'm stuck. I can't extend the volume. Windows 8 install disc gives me the error [0 x 80042468]
There is a similar problem but I can't access the answer. (ACCESS DENIED)
* edit * there is no system of operating on the 3 TB drive, it is completely on the SSD.

I bought a whole new office 27 "Mac provided with Adobe CS6. Everything worked like a charm until the 1 TB hard drive, developed a bad sector and the Apple Store reinstalled a new I had extended warranty with them. They are recycled the disc immediately (like crazy, I don't ask for this return to get the data off it.) But fortunately, I have all my data on CrashPlan. I downloaded it and it was working fine except that I downloaded it on the desk and not the original location so he had succeed. I also have an external 1.5 TB drive that I wanted to make it bootable, so I installed Mavericks 10.9.3. Then I advanced and installed on disk newly installed too.
I think that because I have a new reader that adobe thinks, I have a new computer. I bought the 27 "Mac new on Ebay and it came loaded with the software, including CS6. I have a serial number for CS6, but Adobe says that it was not valid. (I've owned CS2 and CS4 now CS6 that came preloaded on the Mac by the seller who told me that the software has been registered for the Mac?
I'll re - download the backup to the original location but this time (I still don't think that it will work with Adobe.) What can I do about it?

Satellite 5100-201-size Limitation of HARD drive
Hello
I have a Satellite 5100-201 P4 - M 1.6 Ghz with 30 GB IDE HDD and 1024 MB of RAM. I use my 'old' Satellite only for music (the largest sound found on laptops!) but my HARD drive got a little weak.
So my question is if there is no limit on the size of HARD drive for this laptop. I would buy an IDE 120 GB or 160 GB HDD at 5400 RPM and 8 MB Cache. If this is not possible, I can also take the 80 GB of HDD (another puts it on say works), but liked better!
Thanks for your help!
Greetings,
FabHey Buddy,
I think that the maximum capacity of the HARD drive would be 120 GB because the laptop has a limitation of LBA 28 bits. This means that only the hard disks up to 128 GB usable 120 GB would be the maximum. 5400 RPM and 8 MB cache are ok.
By the way: it of Nice to read that you are always so pleased with old Satellite 5200 :)

Satellite M40X-112: can I use the 160 GB HARD drive
I have a Satellite M40X-112 lapptop and I want to upgrade my 80 GB to 160 GB internal drive.
How is know possible? (Toshiba hotline cannot give me an answer only that a 80 GB drive has been tried with these lapptop!). Anyone have experience with that?I read several statements here in the forum about HDD upgrade on the M40X and it seems that there is a limitation in the BIOS.
The BISO will not recognize the 160 GB HARD drive and that is why you will be not possible to install an OS or you will not be able to boot from this device. Please use the "advanced search" from this forum to find discussions on upgrading the HARD drive.

Security of the data to hard drive replaced under warranty
My laptop is fixed by virtue of the extended due to a hard drive failure warranty. HP has no problem, replace the defective drive. However, I asked that they return the drive failed for me, because it contains personal data and I want to make sure it is properly destroyed. They refuse to send me the original drive, unless I have pay $290 for it. Otherwise they will simply ship the laptop to me not repaired.
I am very hurt to her comfortable while simply trust that the reader will be well destroyed. I hear too many stories on data personal discs playing in landfills or elsewhere. I don't know that it would happen to HP, but then I don't know it won't, either, and it is not a value of potential risk.
Does anyone know what HP is doing to "destroy" a hard drive? Alternatively, anyone has any advice on how to convince HP to return my hard drive of origin for no additional cost, as it should be without me having to jump through hoops?
I can assure you that all personal data is secure when HP parts for refurbished devices used. HP treats thousands of thousands of pieces per day. Unless your failed hard drive is labeled "TOP SECRET" noone will give him a second glance. It merely add to the line, dismantled and the parties go into hp quality tests where they create parts for refurbished devices. The trays are too sensitive for them to be swapped around without a clean room. They are destroyed. probably thrown in a dumpster somewhere. Once that any type of dust gets on the trays the discs are unreadable, even if they have been good before he was saying-assembled. It is not cost-efficiant to slow production just to get the trays on a hard drive in a clean room. It is easier to throw away them and have a machine to replace

Windows 7 will not activate with the OEM key, after the failure of HARD drive.
Hello
I was recently asked to repair my brother DELL laptop. The HARD drive failed and the system unusable. I replaced the HARD drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 (earlier version of windows) from my own installation media. The recovery partition had survived the failure of HARD drive, I would have just cloned that and used, but this was not an option in this case.
The problem that I am experiencing, is that windows don't will not activate, saying that the key is not valid. I was told that installing Windows 7 media would work with a retail or an OEM key, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The key OEM I use, is from the computer it came from originally, and the only material change is the new HARD disk.
I try to avoid ordering an OEM Dell installation CD, as which costs money (I already have my own installation CD) and takes time (why do they have them available for download?).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. COA SLP: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. There is a removable cover at the bottom of the unit as shown here:

No, to my knowledge, this is not possible, even if you copy the contents of the recovery of HARD drive on the new partition on the new HARD drive, HARD drive recovery option does not appear in the advanced boot menu.
So, it seems you need to order a new drive to get here:

Not in the way you probably do. Here is the Service Manual:
See Page 50. Unlike the Envy 17 and Pavilion dv7, Pavilion 17 has that a single hard drive Bay. The only way to add a second hard drive is to remove the DVD (optical drive) and insert a DVD to the hard drive bay adapter. The manual shows how to remove the DVD player and you can buy the adapter at amazon.com or jacobsparts.com. Note that this is a 9.5 mm thick disc, not a 12.7 mm. Both types are available. I do not recommend the adapter DVD player solution because you lose the use of the optical drive, and also because the interface of optical drive is usually not as fast as the main hard drive interface. Always fast enough for simple storage and you can run a video of her, but you do not want to edit the video of this disc, for example.
https://www.jacobsparts.com/items/HDDBAY-02/
If you decide to go the route of adapter DVD I would buy a large capacity 5400 RPM SATA 2.5 inches wide and drive hard thickness 9.5 mm. No sense in buying a reader more expensive high-performance.
