Extension automatically opens new tab
I have a linux version of firefox. When I open a second window for the first time in a session, one of my extensions to open a tab with a new tab. Is there a way to prevent this. I checked the new tab setting and about: config and found nothing. I also checked the folder where firefox stores the information profile and made a senior looks to reveal all the files including the url of the Web page of the extension.
The returned search hits in the following files
addons. JSON
addons.SQLite
Extensions. JSON
Extensions.SQLite
places.SQLite
sessionstore-backups/previous.js
sessionstore-backups / upgrade.js - 20150714173344
sessionstore-backups/recovery.js
sessionstore-backups/recovery.bak
Any advice on where I need to search?
You know that the extension is involved?
You shouldn't have any problem starting Firefox in Mode safe mode if the problem is really due to an extension. Take a look at this support article to start Firefox in Mode safe or to detect bad extension.
Maybe the defined extension new tab URL with the URL target when Firefox starts, and once the first new tab is opened, the extension put once again the new URL of the tab with the default this time.

I use Firefox 9.0.1 on a Windows 7 laptop. Since the upgrade to 9.0 and 9.0.1 Mozilla and Speed Dial open new tabs as if they have been updated, although there has been no update. Colorful tabs 8.0 does as well, but I disabled it.
It should not be a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder, unless you other other software or Firefox extension he created.
Can you post the contents of user.js if you have such a file?
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:- Help > troubleshooting information > profile directory: opens showing the file
You can also try to rename prefs.js to prefs.js.old to reset all preferences, in which case there is a problem with the file as shown in the articles.

I tried everything the site suggested, but I still cannot open new tabs.

I can't open new tabs in my browser.
If I click on the small, nothing happens. If I try the shortcut, nothing happens. But open new tabs automatically if I click on a link in a Web site.
The Ask toolbar is initially in the version of Firefox 3.6.13. Obviously something in this extension is not compatible with a Firefox security patch. Disable this extension or uninstall it.

Disable 'open new tabs' privileges for an add-on?
Hello, I have 2 modules that continually open a new tab leading to their sites AFTER an update
My computer is slow, but I need plugins too.
Rather, I put them to update automatically, but how do I disable 'open new tabs' privileges for an add-on?Maybe it's a small nuisance for some users, but I don't think that mozilla would do something against it is not violation of the guidelines of addon developer...
in fact, to open a new tab after some mozilla firefox updates itself, so that disable see: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-stop-firefox-making-automatic-connections#w_whats-new-page
If you want to start a discussion about this neverteheless, then the best place to do it would be addons to https://discourse.mozilla-community.org/c/add-ons forum where staff and reviewers of addons.mozilla.org participate as well.

Cannot open new tabs to the menu, with double click or Ctrl + T
Has been using firefox without problems until this morning. Now impossible to get a new tab to open by double clicking on the tab or by selecting 'new tab' file, or by using CTRL + t. run OS x 10.6.8.
Click on the sign + to open new tab
Command (CMD) + T = Mac
CTRL + T - Windows / Linux
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to fix the problem and to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

Since yesterday, 06/11/2013, I can no longer open new tabs in my browser. I've been using Firefox for almost 10 years and I've never had this problem.
Hello debbiesuerd1, you can try to reproduce this behavior when you start firefox in safe mode, once? If not, perhaps an addon intrudes here...

Firefox opens new tabs in the form of tabs first, then move on to the new windows
I'm running FF 14.0.1 and the problem has persisted through a number of versions.
Initially FF will open new tabs... CTRL + t work, do a right click to open in a tab etc all work fine. Sometimes the tabs are now question and I can get maybe 20 or open several tabs. And then other times we seem to be an arbitrary limit, say 5 tabs, and then each new tab opens a new window. No external link opens in a new window, a Ctrl + t opens in a new window, all new windows are the only image, for example, you can have a number of windows each tell 5 tabs, just the original (for example) window 5 and then a series of windows with only unique pages in each, and which Ctrl + t doesn't open a new window.
A full restart sometimes heals things and I can go back to have different pages in different tabs and then something... without obvious motive... launch us in the "new window only" mode after what even if I reduce the number of tabs in the original window many tabs, Ctrl + t opens only new windows.
He's really starting to happen to me... I have searched the technical support information and wonder about a full reset or even uninstall and reinstall. places.SQLite is verified as valid and I also, have it reindexed all to no effect.
Try Firefox Safe mode to see how it works there.
A way of solving problems, which disables most of the modules.
(If you use it, switch to the default theme).- You can open the mode without failure of Firefox 4.0 + by pressing the SHIFT key when you use the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
- Or use the Help menu option, click restart with the disabled... modules while Firefox is running.
Do not choose anything at the moment, just use 'continue in safe mode.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the shortcut of Firefox (without the Shift key) to open it again.
If it's good in Firefox Safe mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one.
http://support.Mozilla.com/en-us/KB/troubleshooting+extensions+and+themesWhen find you what is causing that, please let us know. It might help others who have this problem.

I used the same setup file, but on 1 pc, the "Open new tab" button is available in the menu 'Customize toolbar' and can be dragged and drop on the navigation bar. On the other pc, the "Open new tab" button/icon is not yet available for drag / drop. I uninstalled firefox completely, including the settings and preferences, then reinstalled, but that has not fixed the missing button.
Hello
Please try to restore the default value in the Customize... window. If it is still not visible, one of the reasons could be that the button is already placed on the toolbar, but can be hidden behind a different icon or toolbar.

I can't open new tabs on the position of botton?
Hello. After the upgrade to v.7 v.5 Firefox can't open new tabs when on the bottom. In a page Web, in an area about an inch under the 'tabs' line does not work. Example: on the 'Help' of Firefox page I can't sign-in/register if I want to "contribute" and I can't use the buttons under the title "NEED HELP FOR FIREFOX?". When on the Yahoo home page none of the buttons above the "Yahoo Search bar" and the "search bar" itself works.
I tried to find someone on the Live chat since 09:00 with nothing doesn't.
The extension of the Yahoo! toolbar and the extension of Babylon have been reported because of this problem. Disable or uninstall the modules.

New user (new computer - no problem for 9 days) Re: tabbed browsing, the sign plus allows you to open a new tab has suddenly disappeared. Searched through all the notes help and have reloaded x 3 an add - we (extension?) for new tabs. In other words, I don't know where to look to get this feature.
Hi waukss:
Go to the view of . Toolbars | Customize and click the 'Restore Default Set' button or drag the 'New tab' icon in the window customize (if available) beside your existing tabs. It is also possible by mistake, you drag the icon "+" to another bar tools and just need to drag back where it belongs. If none of this works, go to tools | Options | Tabs and make sure that 'always show the tab bar' is enabled.
If you're really stuck, a double click of your mouse just to the right of your last visible tab [or file |] New tab (Ctrl + T)] should also open a new tab.

I've always been able to open new tabs in the same window, but since downloading some software, I'm more able to open a new tab! I also noticed that everything on my page keeps coming back to Yahoo, though even he is normally set to google. Can someone help with this problem? Thank you
The Ask toolbar is originally only in versions of Firefox 3.6.13 +. Uninstall this extension.
There are a few places to check for the Ask toolbar:
- Check the control panel Windows for the Ask Toolbar - http://about.ask.com/apn/toolbar/docs/default/faq/en/ff/index.html#na4
- Also check your list of extensions, you may be able to uninstall it from there - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Uninstalling+add-ons

There is a problem when I click on the tab '+' to 'open a new tab' nothing happens. It allows to open new tabs, and now it does nothing. Even when I go to 'File' and 'New tab' it still does nothing. The only time wherever I can get a new tab to open is if I go to 'Help' and click "Firefox Help" then opens a new tab with firefox help.
Please disable or uninstall the extension "Ask Toolbar". He has a known compatibility issue with the latest update of Firefox.
