External address of Mgmt - DHCP/Dynamic DNS

Hello

My client is looking to assign the "external Mgmt addresses' for their B series server blades (KVM) via DHCP and dynamic DNS instead of a statically defined pool.

Grateful if someone can confirm if this possible?

Regards, Paul

Hey Robinson,

How are you? IP to KVM management can only be assigned statically to the MMIC or be affected by an ip pool.

  • Dynamic DNS update of IPv4 addresses does not not in Windows 7

Several months ago, we noticed behaviors incompatible with Windows 7 clients and their entry in DNS Active Directory.

The main problem is that our Windows 7 clients only will be not systematically their IPv4 address in Active Directory DNS by using dynamic DNS (RFC2136)

    Initial question:

    • A handful of customers will register its IPv4 address, but it is a minority and most don't (this is the main question)
    • We use the public IP address space.
    • Customers have been constantly recording the IPv6 address for 6to4 in DNS card but not its IPv4 address.

We have disabled the 6to4 map by using Group Policy, because we do not use IPv6 and don't plan to use the 6to4 transition.

    Secondary issue:

    • Customers is no longer recording card 6to4 in DNS (good)
    • Majority of customers do not yet record their (bad) IPv4 address.

    What I've checked so far:

    • Analysis using Wireshark:

      • Most clients make no request for SOA record and therefore do not try to send dynamic DNS updates.
      • Some customers get the AD zone SOA record and then send the DNS dynamic update to one of the DCs.
      • I see nothing of clearly different on clients who send updates and those who are not.
      • All the other AD related traffic, for example request/response for domain/ldap SRV record looks normal.
    • Settings on the client:

      • The IPv4 adapter "save addresses for this connection in DNS" checked.
      • The primary DNS suffix is the same as our AD domain name.
      • The AD domain name is a COMPLETE domain name.
      • Use us group policy to apply the primary DNS suffix and some connection specific suffixes.
      • Customers do everything they are supposed to; as access to shared resources, printers, etc. - just not update DNS.

I've assigned my public ip address for the host name, then im stuck. I tried several times and countless forums but I can't get my head around dynamic dns process. Can someone inform me?

  • WRV200/Quick VPN and dynamic DNS

Linksys supports States that I need to contact verizon DSL to get a public IP address and set up a "bridge connection" in the DSL modem.  I would try even when using dynamic DNS.  If someone is successful with this change I would appreciate some tips

To use the dynamic DNS on the WRV you will need a public IP address on the WRV and for what the modem needs to be filled. This brings you straight to where you already are.

  • Dynamic DNS in RV130

    Hello

I have a RV130 connected to the internet router/modem and I have configured the dynamic dns (No. - ip provider).

the problem is that the ip address that is returned to the ddns is the rv130 wan ip, not internet ip address.

If I use a machine on the network with the app to no - ip, it shows the internet ip in site no. - ip address, but since it is a customer that I can just ask her to keep a machine always on execution of the application.

is it possible to change the configuration on the rv130 or is this something I need to change the modem?

    thnx

    Hello

There is nothing you can or need to change on the router, it will report the IP address on the WAN connection.

Based on what you say, I think the problem is that the modem, the RV130 is connected to is acting as a router and providing a kind of IP address in the RV130 (10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x or 172.16.x.x)

What you need to do is to contact the ISP and have them change the modem in Bridge mode so that the actual public IP goes directly into the WAN port on the RV130 and then the DDNS will show the correct address.

    I hope this helps.

  • Virtual machines do not get IP address from the DHCP server

Hello! I just spend Xenserver to ESXi. Created a couple of virtual machines and none of them gets an IP address from our DHCP server (DHCP server is a physical PC), and instead, they get a number of internal 192.168.x.y allowing connection to the internet.

Looks like a way to do this is to install a virtual machine that is a router, as M0n0wall, and route traffic to connect to the external network and finally to access internet. But this is not what I have to do.

I need to have virtual machines that are server to get an IP reserved for our DHCP server, and then our local windows client should be able to access it directly.

I searched on google and forums for this but I can't seem to find how to configure virtual machines to directly belong to our local network.

I thought that VMware would have a simpler way to do so than XenServer, but I was stuck on this one day now and really frustrated as I get not before with this project, stuck on this little problem... sigh...

    Thanks for your help.

    GER.

ESXi does not IP addresses to the virtual machines it host - if the virtual machines are not able to access your physical network than that of the thw two virtual machines acts as a DHCP server - now to the question of network - if you are not able to reach the virtual machines on the physical network or achieve fitness network virtual machines , then there is a problem with the physical connection to the ESXi host, possibly the configuration of the physical port that connects to the - is a way to test this theory to assign an IP address on the same network that the management port - if you are able to access the virtual machine, then you know that the problem is with the switch port.

  • R7500 Dynamic DNS - no ip - manage devices

    Hello

I had set up dynamic DNS using no. - ip (NETGEAR supplier - "*.") mynetgear.com') on my router R7000, before.

    Now, I changed to a R7500.

But my noip.com account still has the 'old' R7000 device under host / redirects-> manage devices.

And I can't seem to remove the R7000 and serial number. (and I don't have the R7000 no more).

The R7500 refused to apply the account settings for:

    Service provider: NETGEAR

    E-mail:

    I missed something?

    Thank you

    Hello

I can't remove the R7000 go in my list of devices (or at least, I can't find a delete option).

BUT after removing the hostname of my old camera AND delete the full host name subsequently (on noip.com), I could re-register the R7500 with my host name. So ultimately it works again!

Noip.com, on the R7000 is more listed as acive device, but it seems that I can't delete the old of my list.

  • Client DHCP is unable to get a valid IP address from the DHCP server.

Client DHCP is unable to get a valid IP address from the DHCP server. I have a home edition of Windows XP attempts to connect to my router wirelessly with wireless or wired connection but I get an error in Event Viewer with the discription DHCP 1007 error message. From what I researched, I discovered that the DHCP service depends on the AFD, TCP/IP and NetBT services. All these services are correctly place and worked very well (even the DHCP service is running without error) but every time I try to release/renew my IP address I receive than DHCP warning in the case where the viewer and I just cannot get a valid IP address of the server (router) I also have one of these verizon wireless G3 usb adapters and it works fine. I also have a good ping back when I try to do a ping localhost (for the closure) I also tried the preinstallation of uninstalled drivers from the adapter/s and nothing works. The only entrees in the registry for DHCP error are also AFD, NetBT and TCP/IP nothing else there, also all the files in the/system32/drivers afd.sys netbt.sys and tcpip.sys in addition to solve the problem, I'll mention that I installed and reinstalled Northon earlier, I do not remember if the problem appears before or after that. I receive also any error or warning in the security log or at least I don't know how to read: P

    Thanks in advance

    Thanks for the information.

I hope you know that it is risky to connect the laptop to the Internet with no firewall and no antivirus... If this laptop is already connected to the Internet in this State, he is perhaps already infected.

You said you know the router works because the other computers can connect successfully to it.  You should check the configuration of the router to make sure that it is not configured to limit the number of IP address it supplies, and (b) it is not configured to filter users by MAC address.

When this laptop is connected by Ethernet, even if he gets the IP address of 169.254.x.y, can you ping the router?  Find the IP address of the router on any computer connected to it by running the ipconfig command in a command prompt window.  The "default gateway" is the IP address of the router.  Run the ping command in the command prompt window as well.

If the ping is successful, it is possible that you might be able to use an IP address in the correct range for an Ethernet cable (but I doubt that it works for the wireless).

  • How to get the IP address Linksys WRT54GS DHCP assigns to a Wi - Fi connection?

To connect the Linksys WRT54GS to a demonstration of Microchip DV102411 WiFi Comm card I need the IP address assigned by DHCP. • OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g do not receive the correct IP address of the DHCP server

    Hello

We have reconfigured our network to use 172.16.11.xxxx

We have assigned our OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g printers IP addresses by using DHCP reservations.

After joining the wireless network, all our printers have an address of 169.254.xxxx.xxx.

    What Miss me?

    Thank you

    Christophe

DHCP is still active on your router?  The printer must have active DHCP.

169.254.x.x means the printer sees the router, but does not have a valid IP address to him.

  • PAT locking to external addresses

    Might sound silly...

I thought that I would apply just an ACL to the NAT rule, but the guy said no.

    Attempt to lock this:

IP nat inside source static tcp 192.168.3.10 3389 interface GigabitEthernet0/0 3389

Down to only authorized external addresses (for obvious reasons)

Been a long day, so maybe lack just what is obvious.

If you care to traffic out, then you need not to apply any access-list and it would all go out.

However, you can configure ACL allowing only 192.168.3.0/24 go outbound and apply it on gig0/0 on the outbound direction and exit. Use a unique number of the ACL (174 is OK) 175 has been used for the NAT statement.

  • Get a strange IPv4 address of the DHCP server

    Hi all

As title, I got a strange IP - DHCP server 169.254.XXX.XXX.

I used Wireshark, tried to get the bootp packets.  I found that my laptop 169.254.xxx.xxx used as source address to send DHCP Discover.

In addition, there is an option called content with 169.254.xxx.xxx requested ip address. Like my source address.

I couldn't access the Internet with this IP address.

I was wondering, is that it is a normal behavior for windows 7 to use 169.254.xxx.xxx to send DHCP Discover?

A DHCP request is sent through the universal 255.255.255.255 broadcast address which is one of the addresses that a server is listening. The query includes the MAC address of the applicant unit because at this point, it doesn't have an IP address. The DHCP server responds to the MAC address in order to assign the address.

In your case, the range 169.254 is called the APIPA address and the PC actually assigns to himself because he did not see a response from the DHCP server. As you refer to Wireshark having a reading of the present.

    http://wiki.Wireshark.org/APIPA

The customer may not send the request via this address and get a response because the DHCP server is not listening on the address or by using the range. The answer must be done via the Mac.
