external drive no connection/display in the finder

Just updated to macOS Sierra, and my external drive is no longer appears in the Finder or in my office. Even disk utility will not display it. It has been used for Time Machine.

Fixed by closing, connect my external drive and then go back to the top. I think the problem is that when I upgraded to Sierra, I don't have my drive connected.

  • Western Digital external hard will not be displayed in the Finder or disk utility

So I am certainly not the most tech-savvy person ever, but I'm not completely helpless on a computer, and I'm trying to help a friend with pulling content on an old external hard drive Western Digital (product No: WDBABW0010BSL-00;) ( http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Passport-Portable-External/dp/B003DC8D8I).

Initially, I looked in the Finder for the hard disk appears, but nothing has ever, even after 15 minutes to be connected. After that, I went my utility application of disc to see if something has shown there, but again, no luck. I made sure that the micro-usb cable works, who he was and the hard drive itself did a light which is turn on, plus you can feel physically the disc rotates inside the hull to the touch on the case itself, so I know there is be able to get on the external hard drive.

From this point, however, I am at a loss for what to do next. I read some of the other help topics, but I have not found anything like that, but that works for me.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help!

Have you tried this WD drive in another Mac with the same results?

    How old is the drive?

I know that I had a problem once with a WD drive that had this type of behavior, and I could not use any utility software disc 3rd party on it to retrieve files or disk to repartition/format utility there. The drive is running but not visible anywhere on any Mac. My situation is that the drive had nothing of value to this topic, I used a top hammer so that nobody else could get something on it when I threw it in the trash.

    Version of LR?

If the files had been continuously online? If switched off connection, then back outside, does not an abandonment of the LR and attach it to restart? In all cases, the Finder show it mounted externally and can do you, say, copy to and from?

  • Display in the Finder does not

With the help of LR4.2 - 'Show in Finder' surprisingly not working from any point of view on any of my photos. The finder doesn't start at all, nothing happens. The photos are on a connected external drive. Any ideas? Thank you.

Updated - I had restarted LR and which did not help, but after the restart of OSX, it works now! Please consider this thread closed.

  • iPhone will not be displayed in the finder

I'm trying to move some of the photos from my phone to a file on my computer and my phone will not be displayed in the tab "currencies" in the finder. It's an iPhone 6 and it is connected through the USB port. I know this isn't an error connection because when I plug it in it costs and is trying to import my photos in the section 'photos' from my computer. I went into the settings in the finder and all turned on and it will not always be displayed. Why is this?

Because Apple has decided that OS X is smarter than you and me. They removed this option on the latest versions of Mac OS X (my devices do not appear more, grrrr...). Try instead to use Image Capture and import or remove photos from there.

  • USB drive will not appear in the finder, but is OK in disk utility

My "music backup" external USB 1 TB SSD showed in the Finder, until a few days ago, when he disappeared. I tried dismantling and Assembly of the command line. The said command-line editing is successful, but I still don't see the drive in Finder.

If I go into disk utility "First aid" reports no problem. The drive is formatted for OS X.  If I right click and say "Open in the Finder" I can see all the folders and even drag in the sidebar where they work, even after a reboot. I can't see the drive at a higher level.

How can I fix it? I guess a solution would be to create a folder called "Music disc" and then move all files on the disc in it and then put it on the sidebar, but it seems silly. How can I get my hard drive appears again in the finder.

PS Si I use a third-party file manager, such as ordering a PRO, the USB drive is available for selection in the drop-down list of disks attached.

  • Seagate external drive works is not on the new Macbook

I have a Seagate external drive where I save copies of my pictures and videos from my Macbook Pro.  I just bought a new Macbook Air and Air reads the disc, but cannot be copied to it, it just says: it is read-only.  I'm confused, as I only used it on a Macbook so I know that it is formatted for Mac, plus I can still save using my Macbook Pro so I don't know why it won't work on my new Air.

Any ideas? I would like to be able to continue the copy on this disc.  I back up my computers online so am not at the risk of losing data, just want to continue with my current system.

    Thank you all!

You have a new drive to NTFS. You will have to repartition and reformat the disk in the order to the EU.

    Drive partition and format

    1. open utility disk from the Applications\utilitaires folder.

    2. after disk utility charges select the external hard drive (this is the entrance Out-bumpy with of the mfgr.) ID and size) in the list on the left. Click on the button/tab Partition in the disk window/toolbar utility main.

    3. in the title of the Volume entitled plan set the number of partitions in the menu drop-down one. Click the Options button, set the GUID partition scheme, and then click the OK button. Set the type of Mac OS extended (journaled) format. Click on the Apply/Erase button and wait until the process is complete.

    4. Select the volume you just created (it's the subentries under the entry for the road) in the list on the left. Click on the Erase tab in the main window of disk utility.

    5. set the type of format Mac OS extended (journaled). Click on the Security button, look for the button zero data and click OK to return to the window to erase it.

    6. click on the delete button. The formatting process can take up to several hours depending on the size of the disk.

Steps 4 through 6 are optional, but should be used on a player that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if another (not OS X) operating system has been installed on the disk.

The steps above may differ slightly depending on the version of OS X and disk utility.

  • Can't see files in external drives but I can see the files.

For these last days, I have this problem that I don't see the files on my external drives so I'm just save all the files in the main directory. I already checked the external drive on another machine and I see the files there. I use Windows XP Professional. I tried different malware and I use Mcafee virus scan 8.7i and dat is updated.

    Hi Buhgram,

    ·        What happened in safe mode?

    ·        Have you tried to format the external hard drive or USB key?

    (a) that you can run a virus scan online from the link given below and check if the problem persists.

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-NZ/default.htm?mkt=en-NZ

Also, make sure that you have the latest update of the software antivirus installed on your computer, so that it works correctly.

    (b) you can also download & run Microsoft Security Essentials on your computer.
