External hard drive not appearing is not in Windows Explorer

I have a Toshiba external hard drive that has been previously connected to a MAC and that worked very well. I have data on the MAC that I need to put on my PC that is running Windows Vista, but when I plug it into the computer it does not appear in windows Explorer.  She appears as installed hardware and appears under Device Manager/disk management, but there is not a disk entrusted to him.  When I right click on it to assign a drive, this option is grayed out and I can't assign the driver.  Is this what can I do to access the external drive?

Thank you

Try the DISKPART command line?

Using a command line

1. open the command prompt.

2. type: diskpart

3. at the DISKPART prompt, type: list of volume

Note the number of the simple volume without drive letter assignment.

4. at the DISKPART prompt, type: select volume n

Select the volume, where n is the volume number, without drive letter assignment.

5. at the DISKPART prompt, type: assign letter = L

Where L is the drive letter you want to assign to the drive.

AutoPlay must illuminate with the newly assigned drive letter.

  • External hard drive not detected with the error: "You must format the disk in the J: drive until you can use it."

    Hello

I have an external hard drive to work perfectly. I'm back from vacation, and it does not appear under "My Computer". It appears under "Devices and printers", however. This is a link to a screencap of Device Manager: http://i.gyazo.com/9e91e1d71ed32c55dba0419e79b499d5.png

The device in question is that of J:, and it says here that he has 100% free space, that worries me, because he had only 50 GB of free space when I used the latter. After that I open the disk management, I get a pop up message saying: "You must format the disk in the J: drive until you can use it."

How can I get my hard drive appears again?

    Thank you

  • external hard drive not visible

I recently bought a 2 TB Seagate hard drive, it is plugged into usb, more power of decision-making. Although windows 7 has found and installed the hard drive, I cannot access it through windows Explorer and cannot see it in my computer. It is possible to eject it from the task bar, but just run the diskmanagement and he can't see in there either

You would probably a style of 2 TB hard drive "desk" Seagate which requires a cable to AC to inti plugged an AC plug.  It does not seem to have a 2 TB portable hard drive.

Your drive appears to be faulty and you will need to return it or ask for a replacement under warranty from Seagate.

How can I identify the name of the invisible file for a backup file successfully to an external hard drive USB2 separate?  I use Windows Vista backup program (Service Pack 2), and I need to do backups plus two from other computers on the same external hard drive.  To do this, I think I would need to identify each backup file separate I know which file to specify if I need to do a restore.

How can I accomplish this? The program does not seem to give me the ability to specify a file to which to write the backup during a given session files.  In addition, I do not understand why I can not see the file name in Windows Explorer - my files options are defined to be able to view hidden and system.  Would be grateful for any help you can provide, tonight if possible.   Best regards, Oliver for Norm

    Hello

You can try the following steps and check if it helps:

  • External hard drive not in my computer

    Hello

I have a question on my external hard drive. It's a drive hard 2.5 "of Toshiba (1 GB).
I used it already for a long time on my laptop (WINDOWS VISTA) and it worked perfectly until today. I plugged in my hard drive as
usual and it does not appear on my computer. I looked on the internet and found something about research
    Start - Run diskmgmt.msc, (uitvoeren) - so I tried.
He showed the next thing on my HARD drive:
    Disc 1
    Unknown
    931,51 GB
    Not initialated (niet geinitialiseerd)
    Unassigned (niet toegewezen)

I didn't know what to do, so I tried some things. I pressed the right mouse button and he said "initialize disk". I pressed on it and he gave me 2 choices: MBR or GPT.
I tried both, but they both said: data error: Ketal redunatiecontrole.
So, I tried something different. I pressed the right button of my mouse again but this time on the black bar beside the disc information. He said "New simple volume", but I dared not go further because I didn't know if I would lose my data or not, if I would. Also, I didn't know how big the new volume should be.

He also said that the device works properly when I press 'characteristics '.

I don't know what to do now, and also I don't want my files to be deleted.

    Can someone help me?

(Sorry for my bad English, if I write it in Dutch because you do not understand my problem, please tell me ;)))

Can you please test it on another computer just to be sure, the same thing happens again?

When you connect you hear beep sounds when the new device is connected?

  • 3 50 PX1394U external hard drive not recognized

I recently bought the external hard drive, Toshiba PX1394U 3 50. I followed the instructions for the installation and everything went as planned either he found material etc. and returned with the message of successful installation.

However, when I go in my computer that there should be an icon for the external hard drive and it does not exist.

I saw the thread, recommending using REGEN, but this has no effect on the problem - the icon still does not appear in my computer.

I use a laptop computer from a different manufacture running Windows XP and all updates are loaded.

I also had the same problem when loading on my desk.

    Any ideas?

If you get the message installation was successful, you should find the HARD disk in disk management.
Control Panel > administrative tools > computer management > disk management

Maybe you first create a partition or format, but normally you will see players all recognized.

  • External hard drive not detected

I have an external hard drive of 4 Marine to... .and a Macbook pro with the latest El Capitan... When I connect the external hard drive for Mac pro, an external hard drive can not detect, but there is a light flashing on the external hard drive. It worked well until last night after I used iTunes and went to another Mac. I still eject properly.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem

Try using disk utility to repair the disk. If the drive does not appear in the disk utility list, then he dies. Contact the manufacturer or supplier.

Shut down the computer, disconnect the drive. Wait five minutes and then reboot and reconnect the drive.

  • WD external hard drive not recognized by Vista

I am running Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 2 Build 6002 on a HP Pavilion dv6704nr laptop. I just bought a WD My Passport Essential 500 GB external hard drive with USB 2.0 for PC connection. When I plugged in there first, it did prompt driver install, then install complete driver. I can't detect the drive in Windows Explorer. In the Device Manager, there is every indication that other devices and when I try to reinstall the driver by right click on the properties icon that I get the driver is not digitally signed my mistake by microsoft. WD provides drivers for this HD as they claim that it is already part of the windows operating system. Please help me get this working properly

    1.< in="" device="" manager="" it="" shows="" up="" as="" other="">
If it appears in the Device Manager in the "Other devices" section, right click on the device, "Uninstall".

    2. in Device Manager, it should appear under the 'USB Bus controllers'. If you can find it there, do a right-click, "Uninstall", then restart your computer.

    3. If this does not work, uninstall everything under USB controllers then reboot they should be reinstalled.

You may just assign a drive letter for the drive in computer management. Right click "Computer", click on "Manage" under "Computer management", "Storage", click on "disk management". In the right pane, locate the drive, right click then click on «Change drive letter and path...» ", click the"Edit"button and assign a drive letter.

  • WD external hard drive not recognized

I have a Western Digital MyBook external hard drives.  I bring it with me to different places and one day when I got home I plugged it in my PC and nothing happened.  The HD is no longer recognized.

I checked the Device Manager and it does not appear there or it appears in the list of devices for the assignment of drive letters so is not the problem.  While he was just USB I could see that the computer has been grateful something was plugged to the USB port, but that's all.  I removed the HD from its holster and hung in to my computer and always directly nothing if it is not a cable problem or power.

I went to the site of WD and tried their repair program, but wasn't able to only detect the drive either so no luck there.

I also tried to remove the UpperLimit registry or whatever it's called but there no LowerLimit registry to remove.  I've restarted and nothing changed.

I'm really of ideas here, and at this point, I want to at least be able to use it again even if it means a complete reformat even if I got a lot of things about what I lose enough.

You say that is not recognized by your computer.

And their repair program cannot be found.

Have you tried to plug it into another computer and see if it is approved by it?

If it isn't, it is probably the player that has the problem.

    See you soon.
