External hard drive will not mount after the update of the Sierra

Hi, I have an a Segate 1 TB external hard drive that I have with my MacBook Air. After upgrading to Mac OS Sierra, he refused to climb and is therefore invisible in the Finder. Disk utility detects the drive in NTFS initialized and said that all the space has been used. I tried to mount it first through disk utility, but it did nothing. Then I tried via terminal, but he returns "failed to mount. It worked fine before and also works very well on a MacBook Pro running Yosemite. It may be nothing to do with the player, as all files are intact when it is connected to the other Mac. Also, I restarted in Mac utilities and run from there disk utility, and it detected the drive, mounted and fully initialized, with the right amount of space being exhausted.

I am looking for a solution that does not copy the files off and reformatting if possible, but I'll give it a go, if it comes to that. Thank you very much.

Most likely your Seagate drivers are not updated.

NTFS is most likely the culprit here.

Go to the Seagate site and download and install the latest drivers for your drive and NTFS.

  • Seagate external hard drive will not mount

I can't get a TB Seagate Backup Plus 2 player to mount on my Macbook Pro 2011. When I plug it into the USB port, disk utility detects it. I ran check disk and it said the necessary repair disk. Then I ran the repair disk and it said it was successful. However, the player still don't let it go. The disc appears on the other Mac, but not my Macbook Pro. It is not the problem of the USB port either because I was able to mount other external hard drives in order to use it. The reader has already worked on my Mac until I updated my OS from Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

Something could be wrong with my Mac that prevents the installation disc, or is it more likely to be a problem with the drive?

I guess it is related to software driver for Seagate to support the NTFS on mac.

OS X support NTFS natively, but read-only.

The installation of the supplied driver allows read-write access, but it is obsolete seamingly.

I just got the last of Seagate site, but it is still pretty new. The Info said taking in charge until Mavericks only.

If this is the case, you can take a from below.

    1. Uninstall the current driver and expect to release a new Seagate. In the meantime, you can have read access to the disk.
    2. Uninstall the current driver and get the latest version of the driver by the developer instead of Seagate. The last time the developer (Paragon) even on El Capitan and without limitation to Seagate drive. (Paragon is not free but has the trial period - http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/ )
    3. Uninstall the current driver, then take the alternative. The son will be your help for this. - Need to write to the drive (ntfs) outside Yosemite
  • External hard drive is not recognized after Windows Update

Original title: XP Pro wants to install driver for external hard drive that is Plug-and-Play

I think that using Windows Update can cause problems (unintentinally or not) for users of Windows XP.

In a series of accidents with an old computer and reinstall the XP Pro operating system, I discovered that MS Money installing only if it was made before the Windows updates.  (planned obsolescense?) The issue has to do with the removal of the registry AUTORUN file. INF for some new and improved files through Windows Update.  Before the updates, the file exists, and I could install MS money.  After updates, AUTORUN. Missing INF file of the registry.

Now, I encountered a new problem, and I think that it is also a result of Windows Update.  My external hard drive to IDE, that worked perfectly before on this computer (newer), is no longer recognized and want to reinstall the driver.

The problem is that it is a Plug-and-Play device, and no driver was needed before updates.  I read somewhere in my many attempts to find a solution that the MS Plug and Play system was replaced by a universal version of this feature (UPNP?)

It's on a more recent, computer replacement, which came not with a copy of the Windows XP Pro operating system, and I can't just reformat the hard drive and start all over again.

Someone else has encountered this, and if so, have you found a solution?

    Double Post suite-

Where is my external hard drive?

I'm under XP Pro on a Dell Optiplex PC with all the current Windows updates (SP3. Net4, etc..) and last month, I added a USB IDE hard drive. the hard disk enclosure is MASSCOOL, and I used a 250 GB Seagate Barracuda7800. The car worked perfectly until this week. I had the Windows Update critical update automaticlly value and security updates.

The hard drive has disappeared from "my computer." I tried to plug and unplug in different USB ports, restarted the computer, but continues to receive the "new hardware detected by saying me that new hardware has been detected and that I need to install the necessary driver.

The problem is that Seagate does not provide any driver for this drive, because it is supposed to be (and was so far) recognized by the Plug-and-Play of Windows XP software. The hard drive enclosure came with a mini CD, but this contains software to use the unit as a back-up, not for storage.

I can't understand that this change suddenly to believe that something in the Windows updates that have been installed recently changed the command structure, registry files or the drivers themselves.

I know this is possible, because I've seen what's happened to any program that relied on self. INF file that was originally part of XP. This resulted in programs like Microsoft Money and older versions of MS Office, not being able to be installed by those of us who are not 'technically lit.

I'm here in left field, or other people have had similar problems? And is anyone know how to solve this dilemma?

  • External hard drive (Seagate) not readable after the ejection using Thunderbolt cable

Not sure where this question fits as this seems to be a Thunderbolt cable problem but here goes...

I have 4 TB Seagate Backup Plus external drives for archiving with two drives - backup A and B backup - and two interfaces, a basis of love at first sight and a standard basis of USB3.

Using the basis of love at first sight that I backed up to 1.5 TB of data on a Mac logged to A disk and ejected from backup format. When I reassembled A backup to verify the data Finder says the drive is not a recognizable car and I had to reformat. I thought that I must have crashed head or something like the disc was still running when I pulled it off the base of love at first sight. When I got tired to reformat the drive in disk utility only 500 GB of the 4TB were available for formatting, so I thought that I've certainly got to have damaged it.

Then I saved my 1.5 TB of data to a second drive Seagate Backup Plus (backup B) but when I eject this drive (this time I waited to stop and pulled the power over the base before you remove the disk) and then lift the drive that the same error came in the Finder. Suspecting it was the Thunderbolt interface I swapped backup to the base of the USB3 B and all the data is there! I checked A backup and even if she had to be reformatted this time all the 4 TB of capacity was available.

I also have a Rugged Lacie 2 TB drive with a Firewire interface and it seems to work just fine so maybe the Thunderbolt Apple cable or Seagate sight base. I don't have a second Thunderbolt cable to test with at the moment.

As a secondary issue readers are not run down after eject either. The heads are parked, but readers continue so I have to pull the power and wait that it happen down before I can remove basic USB3 disks or love at first sight. This problem, even if it's embarrassing, I can live with. In the foreseeable future I'll use the basis of the USB3.

Everyone knows about this problem before? It sounds really weird.

I can only give you my opinion of WD boxes and I'm afraid that's not good. My experience with WD boxes have always been bad. My suggestion is to try another TB cable and see if that's it, if not then try to connect another device to your iMac Thunderbolt and test to see if it is the iMac, which I doubt it is. If this isn't the cable or the iMac, then you know that it's the condom. If the disks are recoverable from the speaker, remove them and get a TB of high-quality speaker. My vote goes to OWC (www.macworld.com) pregnant Thunderbolt.

  • My external hard drive will not go up and I'm not sure what the question is

My external hard drive will show up in disk utility, but not of viewfinder. I tried to hit "repair disk" and he says it will take 4 hours, but after a while, that he's finally going to say that it is impossible to repair the disk and I need to make a backup.

Almost always, the question is quite simple: the hard drive is faulty or has failed. So I hope that you have a backup of everything that is on, it is absolutely essential.

s not the question. Disk Util sees only after fresh USB connection. Profile of sys can see at any time. Back to zero does not correct the problem is it better that disconnect and reconnect. All OS updates have been applied. No other devices or software problems. Y at - it a tip. • External hard drive will not eject

As I encrypted my external hard drive, it does not stop running after I press eject. He disappears from the sidebar in the Finder, but it does not stop running. I deleted and connected it several times and the same thing happens every time. It can be dangerous to drive or is it OK to remove it even if it is still ongoing? Is there anyway to solve this problem so that he stops running when the ejection? Or is there an another way to delete if eject does not work? I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.9.5.

One that you eject the disc and it disappears from the Finder, it's OK to disconnect/manually turn off the external drive.

  • TOSHIIBA external hard drive will not be displayed in "My computer" (Windows 7)

Several months ago, I bought a Toshiba external hard drive and used to back up my laptop.  I have not used since then, but needed to recover a lost file today.  Unfortunately, when I plug the external hard drive, it will not be displayed in my computer.  When I connect, I get the sound that makes Windows when connect you something.  The hard drive turns on and I can feel it running.  But it does not appear in my computer.  If I go into the Device Manager and look under ' hard drives it appears as "USB device external Toshiba 3.0."  When it is offline, it does not appear in the list of disk drives in Device Manager.

Advice how I can get to appear in 'My Computer' so I can actually access the files?  Thank you!

    Hello

This problem may be caused by one of the following:

    (a) your player does not have a drive letter assigned in disk management

    (b) the drive may be disabled or offline

    (c) your USB driver is maybe corrupted

Follow the steps in this Microsoft KB article troubleshooting and check if that helps:

  • Toshiba ph3100u-1exb external Hard Drive will not stay On

    Hi all.

I recently bought a Toshiba ph3100u-1exb 1.0 TB external hard drive. It works fine, but the problem that I am running is that it does not stay on for more than a few minutes. I don't know that its a kind of function, but if there is a way to turn it off, energy saving, I would have the accessible reader at all times, I use the information stored on it a little.

When he died, I can always press the power button to bring it up, but I would like to have it on all the time. Is it at all possible to do? A setting on the drive, or even within Windows?

I have the player hooked up through a USB cable, this PC is a little older and does not use for hard drives-eSATA cables.

    Hello

In my opinion, the HARD drive must be checked with different computers and different OS (Vista, Win 7, Win XP). If the external HARD disk doesn't work using different systems and computers then it s definitely a HARD drive problem.

I have 2 different external drives a HARD drive died and I had to replace it.
In my opinion, if a HARD drive starts to malfunction then it s mostly a hardware related issue and there is nothing to replace the defective drive

  • Toshiba 1 TB usb 3.5 "external hard drive will not format

Hi all, my Toshiba 1 TB external HARD drive has just arrived, was in FAT32 so told to format it. Started to format it in Windows Vista when all of a sudden the pc froze so he didn't finish. Now it doesn't let me format at all or to access. I tried to do outside of windows, but not joy. Is there a way I can work around this problem and it back on track? The HARD drive seems fine towers etc but leaves me any access. It shows in my computer.

If I understand you as soon as the HARD drive is connected it is listed in Windows Explorer.
What happen when you try to access it? Is there an error message?

try to open disk utility and see if it "sees" the drive.

If she "sees" the drivr then go to the finder preferences and deselect the hard drives and external drives in the menu.

    Restart your Mac.

This sequence has worked for me.

  • Drive external DRIVE will not mount after resizing in Windows

    Hi all

I got a 1 TB external drive that I used for a while about 10 Windows and OSX (El Capitan). I had two partitions Configuration for use on every platform without any problems.

Then, I needed extra space on the Windows partition, so I think that, if I remember correctly, that I've resized using the disk management tool in Windows. I reduced the OSX volume and increased the size of the Windows volume. I can probably hear you all shout now.

Surprise, my volume OSX will now not mount when I run in El Capitan. It does not show in disk utility, and the only way to 'see' it is using diskutil:
