  I was unable to install updates for months. I searched the web for a while, and finally today I discovered the program called 'UniBlue Registry Booster'. I downloaded that and cleaned up the whole registry, but still get the error codes when you try to update. 13 updates are not currently installed.

  OK, so thank you to Alex blood Support technique Microsoft. The solution to my fixing corrupt system files was to run the installation on my Windows DVD install and choose the option 'Upgrade. ' I backed up all my documents in case where, but my system remained intact. I didn't format my hard drive and reinstall Windows, so I am grateful that this solution worked.   So I tried to download KB979482 here:

  However, when I try this, Windows Update Standalone install displays the message"this update does apply to your system."

  I can live with that (if the message is actually true). But if if this patch does not apply to my system, then why Windows Update keep trying to install it as an update 'important '? How can I get off the list so that the Windows Update log is not cluttered with all of the failed attempts?   Finally, I ran Windows Update Fixit tool available.  He fixed a couple of things (default location, another minor config) but not this problem.

  P.S. running BitDefender 2012 if it matters...

  To answer my own question, you can reset the status of the following method KB2509997 8 download and rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution. It would be nice if there was a less force brute to do this, because she loses all your update story and settings, but at least it works.

  Day before yesterday I did a reset (this was described to me, basically as a reformatting of all readers and a reinstallation of original software) on my desktop HP with Vista x 64.  Yesterday, I was doing the Microsoft Updates (I think he had 101 in total which stood for me).  All of the except KB951847 installed correctly.  When he reached KB951847 it says it failed with the error code 80200053.
