FAILED TO CREATE A "NEW FOLDER".

All of a sudden, I can't create a folder.  When I click on "New folder" my only options are new Briefcase or a Zip file.  Can anyone help?

Bruce ordered me to:

How to remove and restore the default "new" context Menu items in Windows 7

This solution does not work.  I followed the instructions.  I ran antivirus software to make sure that my system was clean and it was. I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.  I rebooted and still when I click on "New folder", nothing happens and when I have 'just' click and then 'new', he said 'Briefcase '.  I have no idea what to do now?

Bruce then proposed:

If this problem started recently, try a system restore to an earlier date. If you can, or can't, download the free version of this tool. First check the updates and then run a full scan. http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

I tried the system restore to an earlier date and got the error message from any date I put in:

System Restore has failed to replace the file (C:\Windows) with the original copy of the restore point.
An unspecified error occurred during the restoration of the system (0x80071a90)

Then can someone suggest something else?
Thank you

Hello Gloria & Leigh,

This is an earlier publication by you that I replied to, but it can also help to Leigh: to solve this problem, I recommend a program called FileMenu Tools. You can download the portable freeware from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/PORTABLE-SOFTWARE/System/System-Enhancements/FileMenu-Tools-Portable.shtml .

After having downloaded and installed the program, you will notice that, by default, each option is checked. I would be much more selective on this subject, otherwise your context menu will be a full page long! When the main window opens, you will see a list on the right side of all the elements that can be added to the context menu. Start weeding through the list and every one to take away, you don't need the United Nationsby checking the box.

Once you have completed your selection (de-selections) make sure that you click the green check mark in the row of icons at the top of the left window of the interface to 'Apply' of your choice. The program can do much more, but that answers your specific question. I am told that the program has a good help file, so try here if you are interested.

Let me know if this solves the problem for you.

Kind regards

BearPup

You want to organize your icons in folders, or put a shortcut of data on your home page folder?

The first is easy, this last not so much.

Just hold your finger on an icon, and then drag it on another similar icon.  A "folder" will be done with the name "unnamed file".  Press and hold the words to change the name of the folder.

After changing the name of a folder or a file on the desktop or by creating a new folder (and then hit enter), the folder or the text file doesn't change - until I use the Refresh command. Then, the text shows correctly and the movements of folder or a file in a place open to the top left of the screen. • I can't create new folders. When I right click, then click on 'new' there is no option to create a new folder. Why is this happening?

When you try to create a new folder, there is no option to do so. I checked for viruses, and I did not. Was - that one of the updates? The only way I can create a new folder is by copying an existing folder, and then remove all what it and rename the folder.

You have installed chrome? It's looking like a recent update of chromium may be the cause.

    Hi Bennie,.

  • Button to create the new folder is missing in Explorer

The button new folder exists when I browse through the directories to backup certain file. But in normal mode, the Explorer of Windows Vista has not no any button to create the new folder. It is present in Windows XP and Windows 7. Is it possible to bring back this button in windows Explorer in Windows Vista.

There is a third party software bxNewFolder which adds a "New folder" button in the toolbar of Windows Explorer. It also provides a hotkey (F12) to quickly create a new folder in Explorer. However, she runs whenever you start the computer, the installation needs administrative privileges and uninstall requires a reboot. It is a Browser Helper Object (BHO)

I suggest that you just use "Alt + FWF" keyboard shortcuts in Explorer, the new folder appears instant ready to rename.
