Failed to create new virtual machines on a new install of Vmware Server2
We just got a new host, a HP DL980 G7, with hearts 62 x 2 GHz and 512 GB of ram.
We installed RHEL 5.6 and ran yum update to make it current.
Installation of Vmware Server 2 and open ports in firewall for 8222/902/8333.
Created an account vmadm and pointed the VM directory here.
IM able to connect to the infrastructure of the web and go through the motions of creating a new virtual machine.
Infrastructure establishes a new directory and the files of the virtual machine.
However, when I try to start the virtual machine, it just stops after a few seconds.
I get the following information:
Description:
" Message from host: * error internal monitor VMware Server * vcpu - 0:Platform MPN check failed: mpn = 0xefff009Please report this problem by selecting the menu item help > VMware on the Web > request support, or by going to the Web page" http://VMware.com/info?ID=8 & logfile=/DB6/VMS/VM0/VMware%2elog & coreLocation=/DB6/VMS/VM0/VMware%2dcore%5B0%2D1%5D%2egz ". Please provide us with the log file (/ db6/VMs/VM0/vmware.log) and the core files (/ db6/VMs/VM0/vmware-core[0-1].gz). If the problem is reproducible, please set "Logging level" to "Debug" in the Panel of "Miscellaneous" settings of the Virtual Machine. Then reproduce the incident and submit it according to the instructions. To collect the data to submit to the VMware support, select help > topic and click 'collect support data. You can also run the script 'vm-support' in the folder my computer directly. We will respond on the basis of your entitlement to support. Thank you for your feedback-VMware Server team.
I can't find anything on the server 2 and esx limits can be found here:
http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vSphere4/R40/vsp_40_config_max.PDF
I don't know what is your experience with this database, but from what I've seen performance problems of database in the virtual machines are usually caused by bad disk i/o. CPU or memory must not be the problem in a virtual machine.

Failed to create new virtual machine
Hi all
I have a 5.1 ESXi cluster and I try to install a new Windows Server 2012 R2 virtual machine.
The process always fails this question:
"A component of the virtual machine is not accessible on the host computer."
I tried to:
- Change datastore (VMFS 3 and 5)
- Change Vfolder
- Change the amount of RAM and the number of CPUS
- I tried disk as Thin provisioned or felt configuration.
- Check the health of these two hosts: seems OK
Nothing changes
Any suggestion?
Thank you
Create and manage templates are based on vCenter server only and that's why you see not view 'Virtual Machines and templates' inventory... .and the VM files.
Instead, you will see all your virtual machines from home-> inventory directly under your host...
If I install a virtual machine in a host instead of using the Vcenter server, I don't see these files,
What it means? you have successfully created VM via vSphere client connected to the host?
So my question is: when the virtual machine is installed, and I reconnect using Vcenter where did I see this virtual machine? I guess that I'm not in the folders 'models and virtual computers '.
You will see that it is not executed in the title of the last folder in the folder list or in the folder named "Discovered virtual machine"... until you insert it to some... by vCenter

Create new virtual machine of the model that have two hard drives in the different data store
We do VM deploy automation with PowerCLI.
There is already a model created with at least two hard drives to one side and each hard drive belong to difference datastore,
In the model's operating system is Windows server 2008 R2 already installed VMware Tools and other software in the second (other than C: driver) driver
We can successfully deploy a new virtual machine with this manually with vSphere client model.
But when we try to make the deployment with PowerCLI, can not find examples of similar scripts in the document of reference,
and we also google this question, still no similar question was found.
Is this possible with PowerCLI? If it's possible could you give me some advice or an example of script, thank you!
Best regards.
I already found the solution.
With the vSphere SDK .NET API, we can create the new virtual machine to the model
Mainly used API listed below, sorry because I can not give the source code here.
- VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineCloneSpec
- VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpec
- VMware.Vim.ManagedObjectReference
- VMware.Vim.VirtualMachineRelocateSpecDiskLocator
- VMware.Vim.ManagedObjectReference
- CloneVM_Task
For reference, you can take a look at this post and this post

Creating new virtual machine from an another vm
I installed VMware ESXi 3.5 and that you have created a virtual machine to Windows Server 2003. I would like to use this virtual machine as a model to create other virtual machines. How to create a new virtual machine from a virtual machine existing? What is the best practice? Thank you.
stop the virtual machine in question, and "the clone to a template. You can then deploy oversized. Make sure you have all of the sysprep files that are located in the right place.
You wan to watch this .pdf, even if a small wedge, it might be useful
http://www.VMware.com/PDF/vc_2_templates_usage_best_practices_wp.PDF
Keep in mind that in order to use the functionality of model or a clone, you must have a vCenter Server
If you believe this or any othe response was useful please consider marking as "useful" or "correct".

Virtual PC - create new virtual machine snap into button appears not
I installed virtual PC and having the image in XP mode works on Win 7 64 bit on a Dell Optiplex 990 i5 processor. However when I choose the Manager of Windows Virtual PC and the Windows Explorer window opens, I see not the option create a virtual machine, just 'burn' where it should be.
I tried to activate windows 7 aero UI think the classic look of windows blocked somehow but that has no effect.
I tried to reinstall the configuration of virtual machine directly on the site but it gives me the message that there is not suitable for use. I tried uninstalled and re - install, but get the same when the Explorer window is missing the snap.
How can I get the snap in option seem to create a virtual drive? The window appears with the title of Virtual Machines.
Once again, the image in XP mode work properly and starts and stops without any problem.

Script to create multiple virtual machines model works is not for the network adapter variable
We are working on a script to create multiple virtual machines from a template. The script works fine, but when we try to include commands to set the NIC to a group of specific ports on a dvswitch script errors on. Here's what we have so far. This script (less network variables) works, but we would like to include the network configs in the script as well.

This is the part of the script that configures the network/dvswitch adapter... but does not work properly.

You can create a new virtual machine snapshot from another machine?
Hi all! I was wondering - is it possible to create a new virtual machine with an existing snapshot of a running virtual machine? Or should I essentially clone the machine to a new virtual machine and then go back to the snapshot I want?
I use ESX Server 3.5 with a Lefthand SAN - and was curious to know if there may be either a separate utility, I can run or if the VI Client contains all the tools I would need?
Thank you all for your time!
Good question, I know you can do this with VMware Workstation:
1 VM > overview > Snapshot Manager
2. Select the snapshot > Clone
However, for VMware ESX, I think you should use vmkfstools to the service console.
Basically, you have already created a snapshot and just need to copy the vmdk files, create a new virtual machine and attach an existing drive. I think that's what you're looking for: cloning a Virtual Machine running using the Console Service

This is a quote from the VMware Fusion Professional 6 product page:
VMware Fusion 6 Professional comes with IT administration tools to help you deploy VMware Fusion using Apple or a management solution third Mac as of JAMF's Casper Suite. Further reduce the cost of support of Windows desktop using the mode of single virtual machine that limits user access to the library of the Virtual Machine, the ability to create virtual machines or migrate PCs and reduces the options of the menu.
Where can I find these IT administration tools? I want to block my VMware users to a single virtual machine so that they can not blow by creating new virtual machines, etc.
How can I do this?
Thank you!
Glitch004,
You could follow the steps to activate the single mode of VM:
1. turn power off all running VMS and out the merger.
2. Add the following line to/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion / config
installerDefaults.simplifiedUI = 'TRUE '.
3 restart merger and you will find:
. VM library is hide in the VM menu.
. only one virtual machine can be used, while click second VM Fusion of the reports ' Unable to open document. "
Best regards

Suggestion on Vcenter DB migration on the new virtual machine and enhancement vcenter server
Hello
I'm looking for any suggestion/plan with Vcenter DB migration steps towards the new virtual machine, and then upgrade the server vcenter
4.1 for Update1/2
My plan will be
(1) creating new virtual machine.
(2) fresh install 64-bit OS
(3) migration Vcenter DB of the physical server to the new virtual machine.
(4) upgrade to Vcenter Server 4.1 update 41 4.1 Update1/2
Anything else missing then please let me know.
Thank you
vmguy
Hi vmguy
I agree with this approach
(3) migration Vcenter DB of the physical server to the new virtual machine.
As long as you leave the old DB in tact and simply detach and copy the DB to the new Victoria Cross.
Before you run the upgrade on the new VC and DB.
This way, you have a restoration plan in case something goes wrong with the upgrade.
Just to add:
You must migrate the ADAM database so to maintain the specified permissions vCenter
See: Migrateing vCenter new host
Please allow points if you find this useful/correct

Create a virtual machine with Maximum carrots ESXi has?
I someone told me that VMware does not support to create a virtual machine with more than 50% of the available cores has your host. For example, I have an ESXi host with 2 CPU each with 8 cores. I have therefore 16 cores on my host. I wouldn't be able to create a virtual machine with 8 cores to be supported. Even if I am able to create a virtual machine with 16 cores? Is this person crazy me
This is completely untrue, there is no such limitation. If your license allows, you can use vCPUs as much as your physical host has available threads and as the VM virtual hardware version allows.

ESXi 5 loading new virtual machine ISO
I have 5 ESXi loaded on my server and I downloaded an ISO file known (I started in a stand alone server and it works) in my store data, but when I start the new virtual machine, that it goes straight to the pxe boot, I checked the box to connect to the power on.
Any ideas on where to look?
Thank you
That could prove to be entertaining, but I don't know that it will help solve the issue. Is there the chance I can get a copy of this ISO image?

cannot insert media for the new virtual machine
Here is the configuration:
2 x ESXi without shared storage in the same cluster of vCenter DC
Media (iso files OS) were imported from vShpere in the VCD console, media folder was created the data store of ESX server no.2, noticed that a single iso file might have been a copy at a distance of ESX server n ° 1.
In console organization VCD, create a virtual machine that is checked is under the n ° 1 ESX server according to vCenter console, try "insert the CD/DVD"... "when power on or off, got the error below in vcloud-container - debug.log:
I suspect that the VM on the ESX n ° 1 cannot access the media file on a server ESX no.2 (at least it is impossible using vCenter), is there a workaround?
Thank you

From what I've observed, the media files are saved on the catlog. If you click Catlog and right-click on the media file and click Open, you would see the details on the file (datastore, host). When you return to My Cloud and select the virtual machine, you will get to see the ESX host where it is now supplied the data store where the CD must be shared with this ESX host where the virtual machine is configured.
I'm not sure if there is no work around and shared storage usage is mandatory. Try to use Openfiler to create shared storage and use at end of test.

I get the text following error encrypted every time that I boot Windows XP in VMWare Fusion, since I've upgraded to version 4.02 a few months ago. So I upgraded to version 5.02 hoping the error would go, but he didn't.
When I try to start it, it says "he has at least a virtual SCSI device installed on this virtual Windows XP computer.
Windows XP does not include the drivers for the card SCSI BusLogic VMware Fusion uses virtual SCSI devices. To use these virtual SCSI devices, install the VMware driver in the virtual machine. "Download the driver of"http://vmware.com/info?id=43"."Once I have to dismiss the message, everything seems to work properly. How can I make this message disappear?I tried to go to the useless link that is provided (http://vmware.com/info?id=43), but it takes me just for a general download for all VMWare products page. Then I tried searching for "SCSI" but it does not have the driver, I'm supposedly dedicated research
After doing a bit of searching around, I finally found a driver called "vmscsi - 1.2.0.4.flp ', I connect to my virtual floppy drive. Once I did, my virtual machine wouldn't boot (I get the error "NTDLR is missing.) I then unplugged the virtual floppy drive, and now my virtual machine starts again. I then re-connected the drive floppy and discovered the following content:Disk.TagTxtsetup.OEMvmscsi.catvmscsi.infsmscsi.sysOK... Now what? No installer? What the hell am I supposed to do with it? I tried a double click on all of these files and have no significant results. When the pilot is supposed to go? No instructions? -What VMware calls "support"?The VMware Tools GUI has been removed because it has now integrated with the Virtual Machine settings, however you can still use the command line.
C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools>vmwaretoolboxcmd help Usage: vmwaretoolboxcmd
