Failed to open object of group policy on this computer. Do not have the appropriate rights.

Hey all the...

Today early in the morning, I opened my local Group Policy Editor and make some changes as I prevent users to access any drive on my computer, I enable "restrict all drives". do not forget that I do these settings as an administrator, because my computer has just a user account and this is my own account I mean administrator. So when I close the strategy group, then after my right-click was also spent with these settings. and now I am trying to open the Group Policy Editor to edit my previous settings. mean now I want to disable "restrict all drives".

Whenever I want to open my my computer Group Policy Editor to display a few errors. I have post here in pictures.

Failed to open object of group policy on this computer. Do not have the appropriate rights.

After below error dialog box (1st photo).

Group Policy Editor opens but shows nothing (2nd photo),

Please help me as soon as possible...

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the forum.

Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc) is only in the editions Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise in Windows 8.
See the comparative table listed here on the blog of Windows 8. Please see the Note at the bottom of the article that Windows 8 Enterprise is not listed as you can get this version of Volume License.

  • Receives the following message after opening a downloaded game: 'Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

    Hello!
So I'm at the end of my rope with this one... it lasts for months, and I keep revisitng every two weeks to try and fix that and every time to be completely frustrated.  I found this forum tonight, so here goes...

We downloaded a few games on the HP Games Web site.  We download them and everything works fine.  Then, we will open the games and this pop up error message:
"Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file.  You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

These games used to run fine, and I have no idea why they now have problems.  We have a Vista operating system, 1 account who is the administrator, the Parental control is disabled (or if we believe).

If anyone can please help it would be much appreciated!  We have a monthly membership to this site of game and continue to accumulate credits, but may not use it.  It makes us crazy!

    Thank you in advance!

    Hello Heathie,

Thank you for posting.  It seems that the program is no longer on your computer.  This can happen if the game files are deleted, but the game itself has not been uninstalled correctly.  I recommend you to download the game again to a location on your computer where you can easily find and install it.  This should fix the problem.

Please let me know if this helps you.

    Hi Reaper14,

    ·         The question is limited to this particular .exe file?

    ·         You can open other files very well?

If you are unable to open a .exe file, refer to the following article.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Hi Bob,

    1. in open file are you get this error message?

    2. don't you make changes on the computer before this problem?

This problem may occur if one of the following scenarios arises on your PC.

    • You do not have permissions for the file or the location of the file.
    • The file is located on a site that is not accessible at the moment as a network location or an external drive that is not currently connected to the computer.
    • The file has been moved or deleted.
    • The shortcut or the file is corrupted.
    • The file may be blocked by Windows.
    • Your anti-virus software may block the file.

    Refer to the help article:

Important: Disable your antivirus or changed settings can make your PC vulnerable to viral, fraudulent, or malicious attacks. Microsoft does not recommend that you disable your antivirus software or change settings. If you need to temporarily disable your anti-virus software, you should reactivate as soon as you are finished. Use this workaround at your own risk.

  • Get the error on everything I click on: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. Can not open the downloaded files. Help!

IM about to set fire to this laptop... I tried to set permissions which is what I read as a solution, but none still having the same problem.  I have a click with the right button on my c drive to try to get everyone is listed as having control over the files and click ok, still the same problem.  What is the result of a virus? I try to open things Ive downloaded using safari (Safari is the only browser to work of all those that I have) a file has been moved he says... moved where? To heaven? I don't know where to start to try to solve this problem, because if I can't open downloads what's the use? Should I wipe out completely and put another OS (for example, Linux Mint lol), or is it a simple solution, I'm missing somewhere? I really hate his terrible Vista. If I could download Linux Mint I and destroy this sucker. If someone knows a way to fix even one of these questions than id be tickled s*@#$less... Thanks for reading my rant.

    Hello

Unless you have an idea, when it started and what changes have been made before the appearance of this problem (and by changes it could be software installation/uninstall, update existing software, make changes, etc), you should probably do a reinstall. If you have a Vista disc to the same level as the current installation, insert it and follow the instructions for an inplace upgrade. If you have a system pre-installed with recovery of manufacturer, follow their instructions.

Randomly change file permissions should not solve your problems.

Linux is a viable alternative, but it may suffer corruption as well, and you will probably find a real support to fail.

    Hi pro, blackstone

    ·         You have security software installed on the computer?

Usually, this would happen if the computer is infected with a malware or virus infection.

I suggest that you scan and remove any malware or computer virus infections and check if it helps.

You can also use Microsoft Security databases to scan your computer

    Separated from this thread.

I have the same problem when I try to access some of my photos through any method (File Explorer, IE, Windows Photo Viewer, etc.).  When I try to display the image, I get an error message that says "Windows Photo Viewer cannot open this picture because you don't have the appropriate permissions to access the location of the file."  A few photos in the folder open very well.

The photos are stored on the hard drive of PC in the pictures folder.  Not all pictures are affected - some I can always access.  I tried to run your AutoCorrect tool - it has not fixed the problem.  I tried to add "everyone" by your above statement and he could not solve the problem.  While it was updating the permissions for everyone, it displays the following error message: "unable to enumerate the objects in the container.  Access is denied. »

    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
