Failed to update Windows XP SP3: error 127

Recently, a friends PC has been visited by a technology professional and, since then, then the Windows Update has been disabled.

The service proved not be is not running. You try to start the service using
net start wuauserv
Translated by error 127: the specified procedure could not be found

Go to control panel-> system control > automatic update has the option there not selectable (disabled).
I have only checked for malware using the tool provided by Microsoft as a possible solution, no threats were found.
In addition to the above, I did the following:
  1. Re-installed SP3 - no effect
  2. I tried Microsoft FixIt: said problem detected: However, it does not fix it. It says Windows Update directory is different from the default
  3. Tried all the suggestion as indicate in How to reset the Windows Update components?. Steps 6 fully working mode without fail only. End result was without effect
  4. Install the latest Windows Update Agent has generated an error.
  5. "Chat" used Customer Support service. Was directed to call the technical assistance.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

Sorry for the explanation of front light, slammed other work...  I finished by comparing the service wuauserv with an unaffected system registry keys and replacing the values and remove the extra keys that should not exist.  I did not keep track of all the destruction, sorry.  the main keys are found at HKLM\CurrentControlSet\Services\wuauserv

and the subkeys

I will try to upload a picture or a link to a picture of what these key should look like for most of the systems later.  (use at your own risk because each system may be slightly different)

just be careful to change your registry database - make backups of critical files.

before I did I also deleted and restored all files that begin with "wu" in the windows\system32 folder from another computer.  (Windows should automatically restore all files, but does not restore the wups2.dll file in my case)  (maybe to stop the BITS service before you can delete the files.)

and after the reinstatement of wups2, everything worked normally.

Looks like some maleware attack those keys / files

the registry keys I've seen actually called maleware the wuauserv service files.  so when I cleaned the computer he deleted these files and thus broke the wuauserv service, until I put the service back to normal.
