Failure of system recovery - hangs on check for support in drive E

Currently, I install a new hard drive on my Satellite P300 laptop (running vista Home premium service pack 2).

I installed the new hard drive and insert the first disc of recovery and the recovery process starts well. The following text appears on the screen:

Waiting for ODD vacancies...
WEIRD the E: drive ready.
Look for support in the E: drive...
-

At this point, it does not further and a slider just turns continuously.

What is someone is able to suggest how to solve this problem and to restore?

Thank you very much

Adrian

Hi Adrian

Satellite P300 is well known to me and I got it a few years ago. I ve swapped HARD drive once because of the mail function, and at the end I ve improve it with SSD. On both drives restoration image installation didn t make any problem.

What you can try is to enter the BIOS settings, check if the new HARD drive is recognized correctly (just for your info), set the BIOS to default settings and try to start the installation of recovery once more.

Problem with installation of Recovery Wizard, it's that there are no special tricks that can help you. Either it works or not.
By the way:
You have installed a recovery image in the past with success? I mean you don't use for the first time now, no?

  • Dell DataSafe - 'Create System Recovery' does not recognize my USB flash drive

    Hello

I just set up my new laptop Inspiron and 'Dell DataSafe Local Backup Basic Edition' pops up advising me to "Create system recovery media" restore my system to its critical failure of hard disk factory settings.

It gives me the option to save this on a disk or a USB Flash drive.  I have a drive hard laptop "Western Digital My Passport Essential' that I would use for this, that's why I chose the option of USB Flash drive.  However, I get a message "no USB key not found.

Can someone tell me what I need to do to store the backup recovery system on my laptop hard drive?  (I know a recordable DVD will be probably easier, but I did not and do not want to buy a bunch of them just for that!)

    Any notice received with gratitude.

    Thank you

  • Pavilion dm4-1160us does not start after the failure of system recovery

I have Windows 7 Home edition is installed. In my view, it is 64-bit.

I get everything by initializing the error message is:

    "BOOTMGR is missing".

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete to restart»

When running various tests (Tuneup, break-in, Start-up, hard drive) in I always get the same failure ID: M4PC2J-5KQ6N0-XD6V41-60VG03. The poduct ID is XH124UA #ABA.

The case began after my computer froze and I forced the reboot.

I guess that the hard drive is a gonner. Is this correct?

    Hi Mario,.

Personally, I recommend to replace the hard drive yourself - it is a surprisingly simple process (and much cheaper).  A brief guide on this is detailed below.

Your computer is listed as coming with a 500 GB hard drive, but you can also easily install a 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

    Hard drive 500 GB

    750 GB hard drive.

The procedure to replace the hard drive begins on Page 61 of your & Maintenance Guide.

Once this is done, simply use your recovery media to reinstall the operating system on the new drive - this is described in the document of HP here.

If you do not have your recovery media, let me know because there is another option, you can use it as long as you can clearly read the activation of 25-character product key on your label COST.

  • XP operating system recovery CD does not recognize the hard drive. __

Reinstall XP with recovery inserted CD. At startup, autorun starts and starts to download. Immediately after selecting the partition to be formatted, I get instructions that the hard drive is not recognized? I have no problems with the computer, I just want to clean install and remove years of unnecessary work... whats up?

Hi, the drive must be erased all traces of the file system, that is why XP would not move.

Download and burn to cd Darik Boot and Nuke. Start and wipe the drive hard when you are finished it will appear for XP like a new hard drive.

  • HP media center m470n cannot start the recovery. F10 no work. HP pc system recovery isn't in the menus.

This m470n was seriously infected by malicious software.  After disinfection with MSE and ClamWin, works very well, but I would like to do a system recovery.  The fact recovery partition exists.  But the F10 at startup does not receive me at the recovery, nor is he a "HP PC System Recovery" entry in the tree of programs on the Start Menu.  (I tried another function key I can get to the BIOS OK menu.)  Is there another way to start Recovery?  What is the name and the path of the exe that runs 'HP PC System Recovery?'  Thank you for any advice you can give on this old machine, but still very useful!

Thanks for another excellent suggestion!  Use the Partition Wizard bootable CD, I see two partitions.

One is named HP_RECOVERY, FAT, about 6 GB, and it is the active partition.

The other partition is in anonymous form, NTFS, about 145GB.

I wasn't expecting to see the active recovery partition.  I guess that explains why the Windows computer management disk management Panel did not have the option Mark as active, because it was already active.

The c:\windows\sminst directory is missing, probably because the damage malware cleaning.

CherylG, you have been very helpful!  I don't want to take your attention to other people's questions, and the option of replacement drives $27 is a simple solution, so unless you're really intrigued by this weird problem, we can close.  Thanks again!

  • Re: Equium L40 - 14 l - System recovery option missing

    Hi all

I have an Equium l40 14l that I finally decided needs to be restored "out of the box" status.

I can boot to the system recovery options page, but the widely mentioned drive HARD recovery option has been replaced by the option system restore of full Windows OS.
When I choose it is telling me that is preinstalled files are damaged you can use the recovery dvd - rom product. All I can do is click OK and return to the previous screen.

I ran a few software partitioning and the hidden partition appears. I don't have a disc of recovery with the machine as she had the hidden restore partition.

I don't have a backup when I first booted the machine. I think now that it was a good idea, but as I thought I had the hidden partition to rely on I don't bother.

Ideas if there is a way I can get the system recovery to display HARD drive recovery option?

    Thank you Tom

Cool. Glad to hear this. Now you can remove all the stuff, you don't need and optimize the preinstalled recovery image.

    Good luck.

  • My system hangs during startup "for the first time" after running the system recovery.

    HP G62 - 227 CL

    Win 7 (64 bit)

No error message, in itself; just a screen frozen on reboot.

Months, my computer has suddenly started glitching on me.  I stopped and tried a reboot.  The system froze on start with flying colors.  System recovery tried several times but must have made a mistake because he wouldn't.  Resolved to buy a new hard drive and reinstall from the recovery disks.  Delayed unnecessarily until today, months later.

Before you buy a new hard drive, has decided to relaunch the system recovery.  It worked!  I tried the option that has deleted everything and restored to the software and factory settings.  Everything seemed to work like a charm: hard drive reformatted, reinstalled software, the system prompted me to reboot.  Yes, I did.  Windows started to boot, "Preparting your computer for first use of Setup" appears... and freezes.  For hours.  Hard drive led is off.

BTW, made sure the button Wi - Fi was on what I read on the problems of recovery if it was turned off when the program is run.

Restarted.  Press F11.  A ran maintenance and checked the hard disk for errors.  There are errors.  Unfortunately, the default setting of CHKDSK does not repair them.   A opted for a command line.  RAND CHKDSK again with option '/ f/r' seen in other posts.  Here I am too ignorant to get the program to run properly, I guess.  I ran CHKDSK on the two player X and C.  No error found... sort of.  I know they exist because the system will not start.  (Yes, I tried again.)  Return to the command prompt, I tried to run CHKDSK on the drive C again.  This time I got a message that I must first dismount (remove?) the reader.  As I don't know what that means, I opted for the 'no' and have decided to post this help message.

So.  Suggestions on what do I do then?  More specifically: How do CHKDSK to fix the errors it found?  I think the message was: "errors in $130 of the sector...". "It shows this message two times at the end of 62%.  Freezes for a long time.  Gets will still only slow down to a crawl again around 70%, but no longer.  Then returns to the start of system recovery screen.

System recovery ran again for the pleasure.  Again, seemed to work like a charm.  Unfortunately, the laptop again sits frozen at "Preparing... for first use" screen again.  It heats more turns.  The audible fan works now plans higher... If none of this helps.  I am stopping and waiting for your advice.

    Thank you!

    Zac:

My apologies for the delay to return to you.  Believe you that computer gremlins have not hit my very stable desktop which has been fine for years with sudden instability driver?  McAfee thanks for this most recent update!

In any case, after several diagnoses and find the hard drive has failed in each of them, I decided to install a new copy of Windows 7 as a test while I wait for my upcoming recovery disks in the mail.  I did it by removing all partitions on the drive and do a fresh install.  Here again, everything seemed to go well until that (apparently) a certain area of the drive was used to save/installation of the files.  Even after CHKDSK runs several times (each time he repaired several defective sectors but stalled after only 10% of the disk) the system will become unstable - the last number being a blank screen after logging on to Windows.  So, all in all, epic fail on the side of the hard drive.  The new drive is installed and waiting for my recovery disks.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  They have been a great help with information, but not with the results because of the training.

    Hi DanaCox,

You did it of any material changes or software on the computer before this problem?

I suggest you chkdsk from the Recovery Console and check if the problem persists.

At the Recovery Console prompt, type which Suits, and then press ENTER:

    CHKDSK [/ p]: [/ r]

Note: At first, try to run chkdsk/p & check if it helps. Later, you can run chkdsk/r.
