Then I plug the cable and get the box with the following WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER: Migration failed... Windows Easy Transfer will now be canceled.

  • Windows Easy Transfer mixed with profiles

I used Windows Easy Transfer to transfer data and settings of a Windows Vista Edition System Home Premium.  I had to restore the OS using HP restore.

I then went to restore data backed up using WET, and here is what happened:

    1. I had four profiles to be restored, and therefore a screen four profiles on the left and on the right to choose a profile from the drop downs name (there were four of them).

    2. I clicked on all fall down and they were all empty (i.e. are no profile name).

    3. rather spend every day trying to figure why no names appeared, I decided to manually enter the names of required profiles.

Example, 1, 2, 3 profile profile profile, profile 4 included profile 1 is at the top of the left column and the rest followed below.  Then in the right hand column, I typed in profile 1, then under this profile 2 and so on for the others.  So if you are looking for in the left column, I adapted exactly the profile names in the right-hand columns.

    4. once WET was over, here's where the mixing occurred upward.  To restart, that I noticed that the profiles were available, but what has happened is that the icon image for profile 1 Welcome screen has been transposed with the image of the icon for the profile 4.  And further, if I selected profile 1 in the Welcome screen, it contains profile files 4 profile 4 has the files belonging to profile 1.  Then, I read the documents and settings directories and noticed that all the directories for profile 1 are included in the profile 4 and vice versa.

OK, then what's happened?  Or what could have happened to cause this?  What is the solution?  Thank you.

  • Windows Easy Transfer ends with the restart Message

I'm trying to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files from my old laptop Windows XP 32 - bit for my new laptop Wn7 64-bit. I downloaded the XP application usng the laptop Win7 and transferred on the XP laptop and installed there. I used my network wireless existing as a transfer medium. I copied the transfer key from the old to the new laptop, and the transfer seemed to progress saying there were 390 files, which seems a little low. When 390 have been transferred, both computers will report the following error:

Windows Easy Transfer is unable to continue. If please restart the computer and try again.

I restarted once the two laptops and WET the results in the same error.

Should I just try a different transfer method?

    Yes.

Windows Easy Transfer and files and Settings Transfer seized were never so great because they are really made to move (IMHO) from one system to the other * at time of the original operating system release * because they start pretty quickly leaving aside the settings and applications.  Since you are going from Windows XP to Windows 7, use this:

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/XP/transfer-your-data.aspx

If you want to transfer both applications - you can spend a little money on the product (23.95 USDs as you move from XP) and get the professional version:

To add to what Mr.SuzukiBiker commented, this isn't the admin password it takes here, but the PASSWORD KEY.

  • Problems with Windows Easy Transfer

I tried several times to use file transfer for my old HP XP on my new HP Vista computer files.  First time I made "all user files" and stopped to transfer to half way and says that my D: drive is complete on the new Vista.  So, I made a start to recovery to factory settings and tried again.

Second time I tried to transfer, I disabled the D: drive and tried to keep it short, not as many files.  He transferred what I asked for, but these files under a separate user.  And once again, flashing at me my D: drive is very low on space.

I did another system of recovery, but it did not work.  D: drive is always full.  I do another system of recovery currently see.  I negligence has not set a restore point before you start.  Women for the India tech support was no help at all.

What I am doing wrong?  Why Easy Transfer work "easily"?  I have so many games, movies, and music on my XP I can't copy on disk since I don't have a burner to work.  I'm not so concerned about the transfer of parameters like many music, although I hate to lose all my favorites in outlook express and web pages.

    Thanks for any help.

You can burn your data on CD/DVD or a Flash dive allows you to transfer data.

Here's info from MS on how to use it:

    Windows Easy Transfer

    Buy an easy transfer cable

You can buy a cable easy transfer of many computer manufacturers or retailers. To make sure that the cable is designed for Windows Easy Transfer, be sure to look for a "Certified for Windows Vista" logo or the "Works with Windows Vista" on the packaging.

Buy a cable easy transfer now at Windows Marketplace

Windows Easy Transfer allows you to easily move the files and settings stored on your PC under Windows 2000, Windows XP, or even Windows Vista to a new PC running Windows Vista. Windows Easy Transfer will automatically transfer things like:

    • User accounts

    • Files and folders

    • Contacts, settings, and e-mail messages

    • Photos, music and videos

    • Windows settings

    • Program data files and settings

    • Internet settings

There are several ways that you can use Windows Easy Transfer; Choose how you prefer to connect your two computers, select the data you want to transfer, then let Windows Easy Transfer do the work for you.

    Easy transfer cable

A single cable is a special USB cable that is designed to work with Windows Easy Transfer by creating a direct link between your old PC and new PC. One of these cables is the most simple and fast method for the transfer and is recommended if you do not have access to a network. An easy transfer cable will transfer data from the PC running Windows XP or Windows Vista on a PC running Windows Vista.

    • Install the small software application provided with your cable (or download here) on your current PC.

    • Connect the cable to both computers.

    • Windows Easy Transfer will launch and guide you through the transfer process. Your information and files will transfer at approximately 20 GB per hour.

Use a home network or small business

If you already have a wired or wireless network, it's a great way to transfer all your data. You can use your network to transfer your data in real-time on your network or by using a shared folder on the network.

    Using an external hard drive

If you have an external hard drive, Windows Easy Transfer can copy your data on this drive and then copy the data from the drive to your new computer.

With the help of CD or DVD

Windows Easy Transfer can use your CD or DVD burner PC to transfer your data. This solution is not ideal, but can work well if you move only a small amount of data that can fit on a single disc. If you have a large amount of data that does not fit on a disc, it is possible to use this transfer method using multiple disks.

  • Windows Easy Transfer does not

I got a new computer WIndows 8. I want to transfer my data from my Windows 7 computer. Easy transfer works on windows 7 but not 8. When I pull up on the 8 I have the question Yes or no. Yes constituting the data is already on a drive hard and being that I have not used before. If I click No., it closes. It brings me to another menu as it does on windows 7. I want to transfer data via wifi.

Remails a question. My venus of cable data transfer with a disc Intelemover with Windows Easy Transfer is that the disc is no longer necessary with WET?

It has nothing to do with Windows Easy Transfer (Intellimover that is).

You can probably use the cable - if you wish.  I prefer to use a large external USB drive or share network - this way, that I have a copy of all that I could move to multiple computers or almost as a backup at low cost.

I am running Vista Home Premium 64-bit sp2 and upgrade to Windows 7 Pro. I know I need everything back up, install 7 and then restore my data and programs. When I install Windows Easy Transfer, it downloads very well, then on run I get 'Stand Alone Windows Update installation', then "Looks For Updates" and then "update applies to my system" and nothing, fact. I made sure I download the Easy Transfer for Vista 64 bit, but I'm stumped. Any ideas?

      Hello

Windows Easy Transfer is an integrated application available on all editions of Windows Vista or Windows 7. It is not necessary to download explicitly on the Vista computer.

To access Windows Easy Transfer, try the following steps.
      1. click on start, type Windows Easy Transfer and click transfer files from Windows in the list.
      2. follow the instructions in the wizard and complete the tasks successfully.

Can use Windows Easy Transfer to migrate files and settings from an IDE HDD running Windows XP Pro 32-bit to a new computer with SATA HDD and clean install of Windows 7 64-bit?

Yes. (Your question has nothing to do with Windows Update). ~ Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (that is to say, mail, security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ WARNING: MS MVPs represent or work for Microsoft

I'll make sure that you use the correct version of Windows Easy Transfer in Windows XP to Windows 7.

If you have a 32-bit computer Windows XP use this version:

    • With the help of Windows Easy Transfer - need to transfer the old HARD drive to new computer - old HDD attached as external drive for the new usb port of the computer - help

New computer installed Windows 7 and gave me an option to use Windows easy transfer to transfer files, data, programs, etc. from my old computer.  All I have from the old computer's hard drive; a lightning strike fried either food or his mother by car.  I have attached the hard as a disk to the new computer using the usb cable provided with the external hard drive case.  It is recognized as drive E: on the new computer.

Trying to follow the instructions given by the Windows Easy Transfer software.  Get the software/folder from the old hard drive (drive E), but trying to run the software that I can't seem to do anything on the old disk.  When asked what is the former or the new computer - I respond to old, but no new file is created for the transfer.  When I answer again, a new file is created on the new computer (rather than the old HDD) and then he transferred again to new.  I can't create a file of whatever it is I want to transfer from the old HDD.

I can't use an easy transfer cable because the old computer does not only the hard drive.  I can't connect to a network for the same reason.  I only have the hard that I can attach to the new computer.  But I can't get the new computer to process the old hard drive separately for transfer purposes.  The only other option I can think of is to attach the old HDD to another computer, and then try to run the software in this way, but I don't want just the stuff on the old hard drive a copy to the other computer.

Can anyone help?  Suggest how to get the old hard drive files, data, transferred etc. to the new computer.  What are the steps?

      Thank you.

Do yourself a favor, with the old drive connected externally, in the browser, simply copy the data files to the location of Documents of the PC win7. You can not copy programs, they need to be reinstalled from media origonal. You can copy all the downloaded files instalation

You may need to take possession of your old documents folders - see win help to find out how
