Faulty motherboard? (M2N78 - LA)

System specs

http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c01905330#N72

Hey everyone, I was on the forums a few months back looking for advice on buying a new video card for my system.  Display feedback has been "I'd be more worried that you have the jury M2N78 - THE infamous

http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-hardware/m8530f-desktop-PC-with-M2N78-la-mother-board-doesn-t-r...", and at the same time, I had this experience:

06/05/2012 07:28

actually, now that you mention it. I think I had problems with my motherboard already. recently, I had the blue screen and my computer won't start, HP diagnostics was trying to tell my hard drive failed. system repair not not work, reinstalling windows would not work... I finally had to install windows on a different partition of what I usually do, just to get my computer online and for some reason any that worked. Once it was up, I realized all my old files were always available, and that the hard drive seems to be well.  I have, since then, completely reformatted the entire hard drive and did a fresh install of windows.  had no problems with the hard disk, but a diagnostic analysis of HP pre-start still says that my hard drive has failed (error HD-8). I read online somewhere that it could be a problem with the motherboard.  What should I do about it? just continue on until my mobo inevitably fails?

Well... fast forward to 09/02/12 and I think my computer is in serious trouble.  I will update my last post by saying my computer would receive random blue screens when you start several times since may, but not compulsory reformats full or installing windows... the computer should Flash blue screen, successfully repair itself, then restart normally.  Well, I knew I was pushing my luck and I think that my system has finally had enough.  The other day, he decided, he would not start (he was stuck on windows, several hours loading screen).  I tried repairing the system and everything else I could think of, and I've noticed throughout what I was doing, the computer would take incredibly long do anything that I asked.  I've messed around with it, eventually ended up reformatting, and although my computer starts and I seem to be able to browse the files on the hard drive, everything seems to take an incredibly long time, enough time to make the computer unusable.

So if you got this far through my story, first of all I want to say thank you, and secondly, I would like to know if this sounds typical of a motherboard problem or if it could be something else?

Thanks in advance for any help/comments.

Rocky

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately, I don't have any way to test my hd on another computer, so I decided to go buy a new one and see if it resolved my problems.  And of course, it was a hard drive defective, just as HP Diagnostics had tried telling me months back! DOH! I guess that I was just influenced by that people post on the "notorious" mobo, I had.  Thanks for the help!

I am trying to remotely diagnose power with my Qosmio F20 girls (she died at the University).

    Hello

The fact that the laptop is a G10-100 and not F20 doesn t change the situation. As Lorelei said if the laptop can not pass by Toshiba or Qosmio screen so there must be a hardware failure. This looks like a malfunction of the motherboard. But to solve it, you should ask for help ASP.

  • Faulty motherboard Satellite A300

    Hello

I m wondering if anyone can help me. I got the Toshiba Satellite A300-1bz for 18 to 20 months now, and he collapsed. Warranty was only for 1 year then I m still have to pay the Bill.

I was told the motherboard needs replacement? When you turn it on the lights all work and the logo Toshiba lights up then the screen just is empty?

Is there any other problem it could have?
    Thanks in advance

You can enter the BIOS settings?
HARD drive recognized and properly list?
What you can try to test is the installation of image recovery, just to see if an error message will appear.

  • How to install a replacement on my HP Pavilion p5357c motherboard?

I need to replace a faulty motherboard (like many of those who have bought with this pc motherboard) with the same brand and type of origin. The computer is a HP Pavilion p5357c and I find a way extravagant different information.

What is the exact error that you only had/get? Have you tried different data and records of power cables or a new power supply?

Many have suggested it is questions m/b, but most are resolved by replacing the HARD drive. Mothers only I know who may have known problems related to undetected drives are the HP/Pegatron M2N78 - LA series. Overheating possible and/or "cold welding" on the chipset.

Other motherboards that may have problems are the N-Alvorix-RS880-formfat (Alvorix) and IPMTB-TK (Truckee) motherboard, but not IPIEL-A3 (Eureka3).

  • p6211f hard drive failure or motherboard chipset - no boot - cant factory reset

I worked with my friends HP Desktop p6211f for two days now trying to solve the problems start where the main message was reguarding please insert bootable media.  This machine has been maintained by me and bestbuy for virus a few times so it is a prime suspect.  The problem is that the recovery media fails @ 8% with the error 0xe0ef0003

Hardware HP F9 diagnosis reveals Smart errors ranging from BIOHD-3 and now BIOHD-8 BIOHD-1

Suspecting a bootloader or simular virus we decided to try the back when we first met the error of 8% indicated above.  I replaced the SATA drive to origional WD 5000AADS (WD Green with AF) with a capacity of 500G also even SATA WD 5000AAKS.  This new disk actually started in windows as it has been previously loaded.  The choice to keep this copy of windows or the rest of the plant, it was decided to factory reset that after the recovery of the disc error was left in a State that doesn't start raining.

I tried to change the SATA to IDE modes and also tried to change the drive cable with a good known as cable replacement of the drive with my own staff known good disk.  My drive BSOD after logo loading, normal since this window of Windows has been installed on different hardware.

It has come to my attention of a few Documenhts from HP that the recovery media was probably linked to the new format of addvanced AF with 4 KB vs 512 k sectors, whereas if I replace the drive by another AF I should be good to factory reset?

My concern is that some messages on the reguarding BIOHD1 through 3 form that replaces the hard drive works sometimes for a few months and then fails, but the real problem is that the faulty motherboard.  I don't want my friend to pay for the drive and it does not work, or it does not, but only for a few months until the bios cannot communicate with him again.

Test CPU and tests of memory are ok.  DVD rom as well, that there is no other material other then a wifi card and hard drive.

I can't find the list of motherboards pavilion recalled to check if this Pegation M2N78 - figure.

Can someone advice me about the best next step.  Can I replace with another drive that is compatible AF or do I have to replace the motherboard.

    Thank you very much!

All this is not so simple, and I think it can be quite problematic.
Each laptop model has the specific part number. All laptops with the same part number have identical hardware and hardware components.
Your A200 PSAE6E part number so you can use the motherboard of each A200 model with this part number.

Check eBay. You will find lots of older Toshiba laptops and I imagine you can find parts for your machine.

If you have a plus BIOS version 5.14, you will have this problem (according to my research).

It started with BIOS 5.16 and other BIOS updates have published this bug.

Many messages of this referenced forum that users had updated their BIOS. After this upgrade, the CPU fan began cycling up and down repeatedly. I took all of these posts and analyzed them, looking for a common point. All users have the motherboard M2N78 - violet. Upgrading the BIOS is 5.16 and higher.

Searching the Internet with this number of BIOS, I found many references to a "bug" apparent in the upgrade. The respondents have all sought 5.14 BIOS to fix this problem.

  • Pavilion S5610y motherboard

My HP desktop computer crashed today. The motherboard is shot and it is a fairly new computer. The repairman told me to contact HP, because there is a known issue with desktop Pavilion. Hp website has information that the company knows that this is a common problem. My serial number is between people identified by HP as after having been sold with the defective part. There is information on the site that HP shipped advice of mother of replacement for consumers with serial numbers in the range of manufacture on my desk. An hour on the phone with customer service was sterile and I was told that if he didn't plant in 2013, I was out of luck. So I paid for it, I think it's inexcusable. HP knows she sold these and they do not work... It does not matter that he was not in the year of the manufacturer's warranty. I bought a lot of HP products over the past decades. I bought a lot of hp printers and still spend $60 or more per month on the printer ink. I can assure you after this experience, I will never buy a product hp of any kind again nor will be my business or my husbands business. I am very disappointed that I would be sold an office with a very substandard faulty motherboard and this company will do nothing to correct their error.

Thank you very much. I had better customer service here than in the call center. I had almost finished, making the taxes not only myself, but other members of the family. I have a week and a half to three months of work to do before the 15th. It is the root of my frustration. I was contacted today and advised that flags are more like net jobs books and must be powered off often to refresh. I had no idea that I have not bought a desktop computer that can handle personal and business part time use. Thanks again for the shipping of my problem. Any resolution is impossible before my tax deadlines, but I at least have a way to get it fixed and will not lose as much money.

  • Re: Satellite A110: what motherboards that I can use

    Hello

I've got Toshiba A110 with faulty motherboard.
New is hard to find and expensive.

Is there any other motherboard (another model) that can adapt to my A110 cases?

    Thanks much for the reply

    Xiaomei

Unfortunately, you must use the motherboard that is specially designed for portable Satellite A110 series. Other motherboards are not compatible!

So you have only two options.
Either you are going to buy a new motherboard or a used

The new would cost a small fortune and that's why I recommend you a few offers on the Ebay site

    Welcome them

  • Windows will not start after replacing the motherboard

To begin, I must say that I am pretty clueless when it comes to computer skills.

To summarize, I sent my CPU to a repair shop when my computer has stopped working. I removed my hard drive before starting the repairs because it contains confidential data.  They have narrowed the cause to a faulty motherboard and replaced by a new dissimilar.
At the store, the guy had a vista 64 bit recovery disc so I have it home and tried to fix it. He said it will be a breeze and relatively bug free. As part of the Startup Repair, I tried to drive the Startup Repair, and tests were all successful except one. An error of diagnosis readings
"Unspecified system configuration changes may have caused the problem.
Repair action: repair and checking the integrity of system files
    Result: failed. Error code 0 x 490
    time taken = 720023 ms
Everything I've done has led to a brief blue screen to the Windows loading screen and then it restarts itself.
I also tried to restore to the previous two points, but it has also led to the square - a brief blue screen after the loading screen and restarts on its own windows. I'm not ready to reinstall vista and I can't afford to do it too, because I don't have enough disk space to perform another installation. Nor am I willing to reformat one of my two disks.
If you need additional information on the specifications of the material that must be provided, ask me.
IM at my end intelligence now, and I really hope to solve this problem.
    Thank you.

    Hello

I'm sorry, but you have to completely reinstall the operating system after replacing the motherboard with a different motherboard.

"Startup Repair" is exactly that: a start NOT a repair system repairs

What has happened, it is the operating system on your hard disk contains the drivers for the old motherboard and does not and you can't change drivers in doing what you do.

The only way to solve this problem is to reinstall Vista.

You wipe the hard drive and restart and make sure that the repair shop gave you the disc to install the new drivers of motherboard after you reinstall vista or download on the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard.

And here a question for you to consider, too.

If you bought a copy of Vista retail yourself, you can use the method above to a new installation and then install the new disk motherboard drivers.

But, if your computer is a trademark of purchased manufacturer, HP, Toshiba, etc., you can not change the motherboard that the license of Vista OEM is stuck at motherboard the origin of the manufacturer that it has been installed on and now you canceled your Vista license.

    See you soon.

  • Windows Vista after the replacement of the motherboard

If the copy of Vista came with your computer (in other words, it was a copy sold OEM preinstalled on your computer) you are virtually no chance that the OEM copies are linked to the motherboard and if he dies, the copy of Windows is no longer valid.  Otherwise, you must follow the instructions for activation by telephone and explain the exchange of material and you will be assisted with the reactivation of your copy of Windows.
