    Hello

If you're using a scanner with a charger of documents and Windows Fax and Scan, you can scan multiple pages into a single file of scanning to the TIFF (.tif) file format. For more information, see:

If you use Windows Fax and Scan and a flat bed scanner, you can scan multiple images to separate files probably. Not all scanners flat have this ability, so you may need to contact the manufacturer of the scanner to get a driver so that your scanner flat may offer this option.

  • Can Fax and Scan works when the computer is in standby?

I am relying on Windows Fax & Scan (WFS) to try repeatedly fax a document until it succeeds.  He will continue to try even if it goes into mode after the time period specified in power options?  Right now, I've set High Performance from switch to "standby" mode, but it seems like a waste to keep the fully active computer only try to fax from time to time.  It's a must to send the fax, but if the computer doesn't have to be quite awake to do this, or if she'll wake to do that, so much better.  For example, I understand the HD turns down mode "Eve".  If there is enough RAM, I wonder if the HD even turn up just to send the fax.

    Hi Frank,.

If Windows Fax and Scan is set to auto answer mode and your ring-in modem is defined as a factor in reactivation - usually required to be put in the BIOS of the motherboard (Basic input and output system) - the system will be woken up and answered the call.

Note: Changing the BIOS / oxide of additional metal (CMOS) semiconductor parameters incorrectly can causeserious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

  • Windows Fax and Scan does not appear in the start menu

: I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium and you want to (a) send faxes via a modem local fax and b scan docs from a local scanner. I mean, there should be a program Windows fax and scan shown in the start menu. I clicked all programs on the start menu, and it doesn't always show. Suggestions?

    From: Hal

Fax and scan is available in Windows Vista Business and Ultimate editions, it is not available in any of the Windows Vista Home editions.  Since you have a version of Windows Vista Edition family, the only option of fax is a third-party product.  These products work under Windows Vista:

    Snappy Fax

    http://www.snappysoftware.com/

    RKSFax

    http://www.rkssoftware.com/rksfax/overview.html

    VentaFax

    http://www.VentaFax.com/

    FaxTalk FaxCenter Pro 7.5

    http://www.FaxTalk.com/products/ftfcp/index.htm

I have seen reports that the free version of BVRP also works with Windows Vista:

    http://www.usr.com/BVRP/bvrp.asp

    BVRP PhoneTools

Given the above comes with the new USR modem, I don't know if it will work with no - USR modems.  Alternatively, you can send faxes via your Internet connection provided you are willing to pay for an Internet E - Fax service:

  • Windows Fax and Scan cannot detect Photosmart C4580 all-in-1 scanner connected to the wireless network

I have no problem printing or scanning when I connect my C4500 to PC via USB.  When connected via my home wireless router I can print OK but can not scan - it's the same for other users and computers.  Windows Fax and Scan gives me the message 'no scanner found. '  I need to work so that all users on my netwrok home can share the scanner.  I use Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks Travis_C (HP).  I actually found the solution just before receiving your answer!  I discovered that, although the Solution Center says it would uninstall the existing files before allowing me to reinstall with the latest version downloaded, it didn't remove all the files.  I only discovered this because the new facility has not taken me through the whole fresh installation procedure, he simply asked me what additional features I wanted to install and asked me if I wanted a local printer or network etc.

I thought that there must be a mistake or problem with whatever existing files were left and the new facility would not correct it.  So I used the control panel to uninstall the existing files, and I made sure that everything was gone.  I then used the last download to reinstall, this time through the new correct installation procedure, and everything now works perfectly.

With this method I always had a problem on another PC, giving me the same problem I had before.  I realized that this was due to a USB dongle connected to the PC to a wireless keyboard that seems to affect the installation.  When I removed the dongle installation worked again perfectly, and I now have full printing and scanning ability on all PCs.

I think the installer for this printer wireless (and perhaps others?) should be updated to solve the problem, and also the center of Solution must be fixed to ensure that if you uninstall the software it should not leave anything.

I have Windows 7 Professional. My fax and scanning software will not install. I have check all appropriate boxes in "Features Turn Windows on and outside", computer rebooted but it is nowhere.

It should be in programs Start Menu/All as Windows Fax and Scan.

  • Install Fax and scan component. Followed the instructions, but there is no 'SCAN of WINDOWS AND FAX' checkbox in the "WINDOWS FEATURES" window

I followed the "install, configure and send faxes in windows vista" page, but there was no "windows fax and scan" box in the pop-up "Windows features". I have a modem-fax HDAUDIO soft data installed.

You don't say what version of Vista you have.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-Vista/features/fax-scan.aspx

Home editions of Vista have NO FAX features.

You need 3rd Party Software: http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Snappy_Fax_2000/snappyfax.html

Snappy Fax allows you to send and receive faxes from your computer. You can use your scanner to scan documents and then sent a fax to any fax machine, or use the print command other applications to use the virtual fax printer, allowing you to send faxes directly from most Windows applications. In addition, the program also supports faxes sending via the internet, filtering of unwanted faxes and transfer incoming faxes to other fax or e-mail addresses. Additional features include import address book, faxes by email (with zip for images support), OCR, spell checking and much more.

I was playing around with the scanning and fax for windows... On the left side, select Enable Windows features turn on or off

    That should do it.

  • Fax and scan Windows

For scanning, I prefer to use Windows Fax and Scan rather than the Canon's own scanning software.

When I got Windows 7, I could add my MP990 multifunction analysis component to the control panel (devices and printers as a separate unit). This allowed Windows Fax and Scan to recognize the component analysis of my MP990 and scan him.

I recently did a clean install ("custom") of Windows 8. Unfortunately, I do not remember how to configure the component analysis of my MP990 all-in-one as a separate device and now Windows Fax and Scan does not recognize that I have a scanner.

    Please note:

    • I have already installed the latest driver for my MP990.
    • The printing of my MP990 component works perfectly.

Someone would remind me please how to configure the component analysis of my all-in-one printer in devices and printers so that Windows Fax and Scan will recognize my scanner and scan from it. Thank you very much.

From my research, I can tell you that it is one of the most frustrating problems with MFPs. I am happy to say that I discovered the solution, after a lot of experimentation.

The first thing to know is that Windows Fax and Scan uses Windows Image Acquisition. Therefore, your printer must have a WIA driver. According to this article in the knowledge base on the Canon Website:

Which inkjet multifunction printers are supported on Windows 8?

Windows 8 has a native WIA driver for the Canon MP990. It's just a matter of persuading Windows 8 to install the driver.

In addition, it is useful to check if the Acquisition of Image Windows service is running, but it almost certainly works.

If you have already installed the Canon MP990 then it appear in devices and printers as a printer. I discovered that, in my case, the MP990 is only installed as a printer. You want to be installed as a printer and a scanner.

To do so, go to devices and printers, and follow these steps:

    1. Select "add a printer".
    2. Click on ' the printer that I wan't is not listed. »
    3. On the next screen, add your MP990 printer by any method there is.
    4. Let Windows install the MP990 (again). Since the MP990 was already installed as a printer, the only thing left for Windows install is the scanner.
    5. After you are finished, you will see two icons for the MP990 in devices and printers. If you just click on each icon in turn and look at its description in the status bar, you will see that an icon says "category: printer" and the other icon "category: printer; Scanner' Bingo! You have now installed the scanner.
    6. Remove the icon that says only "category: printer" [click the > remove the instrument]

Now you can scan with Windows Fax and Scan.

I don't know why my MP990 himself initially installed as a printer only. However, I figured out how to get Windows to install the scanner as well. I hope it will be useful to someone else.

  • Windows 7 Fax and Scan no longer works

Fax and scan worked until yesterday. At that time the shortcut would open the Fax/Scan window, but contacts, faxes archived, treat, etc., were not available. I tried to create a fax and it allowed me to to insert a document scanned, but not allow me to get a glimpse of the fax and I did not send it.

I checked the modem and it's OK. After trying several things, I used 'Enable or disable functions' to turn off the fax and scanning, then restarted. Then I tried to re - turn on the function of fax and scan, but at the end of this process, there is an error message and after re-booting fax and scan is still not available.  There is no file Wfs.exe in the System32 folder, and without of listed Windows Fax and Scan program.  I also ran sfc/scannow, indicating the corrupted files that have been repaired.

Where should I go here for turn on the Fax/Scan in Windows 7 feature?

    Hello Thomas,.

  • MS Fax and Scan Print grey Driver after installing printer Brother

I have been using the MS Fax print driver to send faxes. I recently installed a brother all-in-one printer/scanner/fax, and now when I select MS Fax in the selection window printer, all selections are grayed out and I get a message that I have to select a printer. It seems that the printer driver is missing or the registry does not point to it. Any suggestions out there?

Thanks for responding. I found the solution to my problem. Congratulations to "XP rocks" on the forum:

Go to 'control panel', 'programs and features' and in the left pane, click on "Turn on or off windows features". Leave the box to fill out, scroll down and expand, 'Print and Document Services'. Uncheck the box next to Windows Fax and Scan , then click on 'OK'.

This action allows you to uninstall the current installation of corrupt Windows Fax and Scan. If you are prompted to reboot, do so.

Re-install Windows Fax and Scan, by following the instructions and checking the box.

  • The link "FAX and SCAN" is not working (says no link) on my Vista Ultimate desktop.

    Hello:

I've never used the link "FAX and SCAN" until that earlier, and it failed.  How can I fix?  I have Vista Ultimate (SP2) with all the patches and updates.  I use a gateway GT5438 desktop (with DSL, works very well) connected to a HP Photosmart C6180 all-in-one who has a FAX option.  How can I solve this problem?  Thank you.

Fax works through the telephone system. Your HP printer may let you fax directly from the printer, if it is connected to a telephone line, you will need to consult your documentation.

You can search electronic fax software that allows you to send a fax by downloading on a server such as efax.
