FCP slow?

Is it possible that an old Mac running 6 FCP can only get tired and slow down? I have a G5 (10.4.11) running FCP 6.0.2.  I have more to use a more recent system now, but I keep it because it is the codec for a few sequences of BetaCam SP that I keep handy, among other things.  I use it mainly for audio work.  Last couple of months, it seems that it is sloooowwwwing down. Do a radio spot and when I hit the space bar to play instead, it stops, and think for a second, then plays very well.  He began to do this on a video production earlier, mostly on things of 1920 x 1080, but now it seems that it does on everything.  Any thoughts on what could be the cause and most importantly, how to fix?

What is the status of your storage media? You must have fast disks with plenty of free space. Hard drives slow down as soon as you walk through more than 50% capacity.

Have you tried to screw up your preferences?

  • MP4 is extremely slow in Compressor 3 - upgrade?

    I work a lot with the files mp4 (or m4v) and I use a compressor to encode them to the ProRes format - and then to the FCP 7. Currently using Compressor 3.5.3

    The problem: it is extremely slow. When dragging a mp4 file (say about 10 min) causes of compressor to think and reflect and think - and then dragging the parameters is the same. Compressor 4 is more favourable to mp4 files and would be faster? Or is it my computer which makes it slow?

    BTW, what I'm trying to do is to convert mkv in ProRes files. I do it in two steps: first Handbreak, then compressor. It is a tedious process, so if anyone has a better solution I would be happy to hear.

    If your Mac is the "thought", my guess is that it is not your version of the compressor or your MBP this os the cause. The source file - maybe something suspicious on the handbrake conversion

    A plain vanilla MP4 to transcode Pro Res must be handled smoothly by Compressor 3.5 - and fill a bit faster than real time.

    Try this. Take a one minute or two QuickTime movie and convert it to MP4. Now that import compressor and transcode to Pro Res.  OK it works?

    Also, check that your system drive has sufficient free space - say, a minimum of 10 to 15%.  And make sure that your destination disk has of space as well.

    Your question about compressor 4, the answer is Yes. The latest version (4.2) is quite a bit faster than 3.5 - especially for fairly new Mbps and iMacs. It is also an improvement by other means - including options for extended encoding, greater stability and ease of use. (But keep in mind that there is no shipment to capacity of compressor from FCP 7 4.2.)

  • Mac Pro 08 SUPER slow! 32 GB of RAM, Quad Core! EtreCheck inside. Help me!

    I bought this computer on ebay in December because I heard it was quiet and the specifications were great compared to my old PC (8 cores, 32 GB of ram, 2 TB). In recent months its been getting slower and slower. I continued to get the beachball for long periods of time and in the last month often have to stop the Tower computer often. 2 weeks ago, that I turned it off because he was stuck and would not come back. It was just a white screen. I paid a guy and he did something and it works again but it of still slow and stop often. Also my Final Cut Pro is having a lot of problems. I got the computer specifically because he had this because I am a creator of video content.

    Today, the computer stopped FCP 3 times and will not allow me to make changes or stops. I restarted the computer and am only using the internet and I always get the constant beachball. It takes forever to even google anything. I'm afraid that it will close again I made an EtreCheck. Based on another THIS I guess I need a new hard drive. I wonder if there is anything else wrong with her. I tried a new hard drive but my current is 2 hard drives, I think, but I just want to buy 1 large and install it myself. If please look over my characteristics EtreCheck and let me know what happens. I'm new to Mac.

    My computer is super slow and it's a very powerful computer. I am constantly seeing the beachball and my FCP X crashes while I am editing. My computer says that my ram is being used and I'm only using the internet. Even Googling something takes a lot of time.     You must replace this ASP HD. You have problems given that the disc should be read several times in a satisfactory manner to get a good read and sometimes that can be done and you have problems, not just slow.

  • IMac is crazy slow

    I have a Mid 2010, 27 "iMac with an i7 2.93 Ghz and 12 GB of memory. Ive got a disk of 1 TB with a little more than 300 concerts to the left.

    I have an external drive connected via firewire 800, but I don't think I have even turned on during the past two weeks.

    I know that the machine is well up there in years, but since the upgrade to El Capitan, I die right here.

    I upgraded via the app store of Snow Leopard, a couple of weeks. It was not exactly smoking quickly with Snow Leopard, but this is ridiculous. If it's important, I also upgraded from Adobe CS5 Adobe CC (all applications). Pretty sure that the system had fallen behind b before installing Adobe, but I wrote chalked up things I'd read about Spotlight indexing still holding.

    It is not just Adobe apps, however. Safari is slow. Office 11 apps, iWork ' 09, FCP apps. I can get a beachball simply by looking at the funny thing. And it is with applications unique solo performer with any other close.

    By a discussion earlier, I logged in as a guest, and after initial 1st an application (tested CC Photoshop, Word and Pages) everything worked so well, it made me want to cry. So I guess the problem lies in my user account, but I don't have any idea what I need to do to fix it.

    All tips will be appreciated.

    I have a simple question, I got a clip, I would slow down the middle section, but I can't select any part inside the clamp, only beginning and end, why?

    I would like to mark the section that I want to slow down and then add a smooth transition from slowing down in the ends of the slowmo part bot, but smooth option is not available.

    Do I have to pay extra to enable editing tools, or?

    You can make a selection in the timeline in the clip, hold the R button and making the selection. Then in the toolbar above the viewer click on the clock and select the slo - mo you want, fast, slow, or custom. Custom you will define a percentage.

    So, I recorded about 40 slides of movie without realizing account than the speed needed adjustment on the projector. Then the audio sounds fast enough. I was wondering how can I slow down a bit without making a sound too slowly? I tried to adapt it to the FCP with the c case, but it make it too slow and makes it still the audio sound like chipmunks. I want to set the audio where it seems normal. I could get out of the video and adjust it in audacity, but I won't do that because then it will take me an eternity to align to the clip in FCP and even then it may not work right.     Ive from using Final Cut Pro X for awhile, just bought myself a new laptop.

    Long story short, I've been a fan of long date PC all my life even if using mac only for video editing and a macbook pro 13 "basis with final cut pro x seem to surpass my newly acquired PC laptop.

    I bought this laptop with the intention to put my video to a State of PC platform and with the new first cs6.

    everything is smooth and all that, but the same question that I remembered on the first, back when I wanted to try in time of cs3. for the preview video playback is slow and jerky.

    I always have to "rendering" my video just to preview smoothly, which is very time consuming. I always thought that because back in the day my laptop was not as good as my new one now so was the question and moves on my mac which was great for video editing only.

    but mac has specifications of base compared to my new laptop and the preview is always impeccable and smooth with LIVE video preview. I mean I can do variations in duration of the slowdown of 10% speed all the way to 1000% of the speed ups and watch my video of this very moment after.

    but with first if I do either time frame transmissions more then 200% original accelerates that he plays very well for 2 seconds which accelerates the speed then becomes slow and jerky.

    I even changed the resolution of 1/4 of quality reading, and I get the same question.

    I wouldn't mind waiting for rendering that I can see that smooth playback and to determine if I like it or not, except when making my clips of my gopro recording at 60 fps 1080, it takes more than 15 minutes.

    He always seemed to be a problem with first for me and wonder if there is something I'm missing here...

    im not hating on PC or adobe at all, I like these two platforms in all directions, but when it comes to this edition, all I hear is good things about them, but when I use it for me its very frustrating.

    P.S. Yes, I put my GPU to use the GPU accelerated to mercury that makes little difference with fineness of reading.

    PR is not optimized for the new stuff from GoPro.  Since FCP transcodes the video on interference, you may need to do the same thing with the Pr for this type of images.  You can use Adobe Media Encoder to transcode your images in batches to intermediate codec.

  • Had high hopes, has wanted to move from the FCP, but is still insufficient on the main features

    We had hoped to spend all our edit places (20-50) of FCP to Premiere Pro, because the PCF was abandoned as a pro platform.

    We had high hopes for CS6, but from what I can tell, still missing some key features, making it unusable for us.

    Maybe someone (Adobe employee?) can correct me, but it seems that:

    1. There is no 'reveal in bin/project"of the command for a clip in the Source monitor
    2. You cannot display multiple time codes at a time, in the TC, either as overlay window. I need to see the TC of all video and audio tracks at once. (Infolog shows, but takes too much place; not practical).
    3. There is no way to see the Waveform Audio & video at the same time, synchronization, in the Source monitor (or in a separate window)
    4. There is no shortcut to 'Jump ahead 1 second' - only 5 frames; useless for me.
    5. the 'match frame' command will only program source, not the other way around.
    6. There is no shortcut to change the alignment of the Transition («start on edit», "ending on"edit","edit-centric")
    7. There is no shortcut to "Dip to Black", just "Dip to white" (!) Really?
    8. There is no shortcut to change the duration of the transition; We must go in the effect controls panel.

    We absolutely need these features to do our work in a timely; they exist in Avid and FCP for at least 10 years. I am amazed.

    Perhaps CS7...? It will probably go to Avid...

    I really, really love CS6. It's super fast, and integration with After Effects is fantastic... but there must be basic editing without using the mouse at all times!

      I can hardly believe that you have used that often. In Premiere Pro, you can overlay the clip in the sequence open with '. ', select the command to "Reveal in project" clip and overlay use, or assign a hotkey, mine is Ctrl + Alt +'

      No, but you can assign keyboard shortcuts for display modes. You can also send a feature request.

    You can create a simple macro script with AutoIt/AutoHotkey and jump forward/back by sending keystrokes like "Send NumPad numpad1 NumPad0 NumPad0 NumPadEnter"

    You can set "Dip to Black" as a default Transition and use a different shortcut to dissolve - "apply video Transition Crossfade" then you'll have shortcuts for both.

    You can use the mouse or a touch pad on a keyboard DiNovo and look in the Info Panel, but it is faster to use the effect controls panel to set the exact time. Another way to do it only with the keyboard, is to put "Video Transition default duration" before adding a balance, but it is acceptable for the news transitions.

    There are indeed: keyboard shortcuts > panels > timeline > Show Previous screen or simply a filter for screen

    In the past, I've tried FCP, it was a nightmare. First in some parts of my work, I work standing up using only the keyboard.

  • Crashing apps and the slow performance since the installation of macOS Sierra

    Im a user of long date Mac but displays the first time that I was pretty happy with everything that on my macbook pro for the past years... until I installed Sierra a day ago.

I'm kinda not clear about the exact nature of the slowness you describe (what specific aspects are slow, what is compatible or intermittent, etc.), but if it's pretty repetitive, you can try to stop all currently open applications, restart your iPad, then test for the slow pace.     Hello, have you tried to reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac - Apple Support?

  • Slow movement of the icons of file

    I just upgraded to Sierra and discovered that move file icons became very slow. Whether on the desktop or in a window, I can choose an icon of file instantly, but if I try to move, even a small distance, there is a long pause, and I often get the beach ball, until the icon jumps in position. In this case if I move the couple icon of millimeters right through the window.

    The same thing happens if I move a file between windows. There is a long delay, then a 'Preparing [location] move' dialog box is displayed with a process bar. Another long pause, then a quick movement of the bar and the icon jumps to the new location. Even with a copy operation. Moving to and from the trash by clicking and dragging is also slow. File used for the test was 8 k on disk, 699 bytes of content, is not large files. Movement of file in the trash by command + delete soon also. Open the file information dialog box has been the normal speed.

    I also started having very slow save as... dialog box speeds, slow opening and then slow to fill. The beach ball appeared regularly.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you for using communities Support from Apple.  I see your message that you met some slowness during the management of files on your MacBook Pro, since you upgraded to macOS Sierra.  I know that personally, I want to be able to move, copy, and back up things quickly, without a lot of spinning Rainbow cursor to run, so I can see why you've posted.  I'd be happy to help you.

    When my MacBook behaving this way, I found a System Management Controller (SMC) reset helped.  If you are not familiar with how to do this reset, see the following link:
    Reset the management system (SCM) controller on your Mac.

    If you always see the same behavior after this reset, then start in safe mode can tell you if a program or process could be the cause of the delay.  Follow the instructions here and test your functions copy/move while that started in safe mode: macOS Sierra: start in safe mode

    If your MacBook Pro works fine in safe mode, reboot normally and check to see if the problem has been resolved.
