I noticed that when I use provided by Windows 98SE Fdisk.exe to partition a drive that is longer than 64 GB (68.719.476.736 bytes) in size, the Fdisk does not report the good size of the hard drive. Everyone knows this? Anyone know why this happens?

I had the same problem when you use the Fdisk.exe with Windows 95. I got it fixed by downloading a Microsoft supported fix for this error of reading the disk size.

This is my 1st post on this site, hope I don't live to the top.

Please download GPT Fdisk from http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ and install it. Once the GPT Fdisk is installed, perform the following steps.

Rebuild the MBR to match the new GPT information so reset the hybrid MBR. Use by default for other issues (such as codes of the partition). The only values that need changes are the flags of Boot and step 10. Accept all other default settings that offers Gdisk. For example, see the Q & A of the sample. These steps can be repeated if you make a mistake, before we get to step 12, otherwise start at step 1 for these steps. Step 6a of the numbers that are typed with a space between the numbers. Please see le Q & A sample before performing these steps.

    1. Sudo gdisk/dev/rdisk0
    2. P (print from parts list)
    3. R (Recover)
    4. O (current MBR hybrid in block letters)

    10. Y (boot indicator part 4 make the bootable NTFS partition)
    11. O (current MBR hybrid in block letters)
    12. W (Write new MBR)
    13. Y (yes! write the new MBR)

  • Boot CD does not work with Satellite 5105-S501. What should I do?

I have big problems with my 5105-S501

The computer is totally screwed upward, with a little help from some virus evil. Well well, anyway; I thought it would be a good time to format the HD and reinstall the operating system.

He liked the manual says, put the cd in recovery and applications started. When I choose install, I get the message "bad work". Even thought it was the cd that I got with the computer!

Tried to format the hard drive manually in the comand prompt, did not work. The hard drive has been used and the computer could not force it out of use.

Put a XP pro cd in the drive and tried to install that one. I have to choose to delete the current partition to format the HD, then I got the message "system unable to perform the operation requested on the selected partition. This partition contains files of temporary facility that is required to perform the instalation.

Tried Fdisk, did not work. Same problem as above; the hard drive is in use, so forth and so!

So guys, I really need help. What happened, and what can I do?

    Concerning

    / Peter Sweden

    Hi Peter,.

I found something that may be interesting for you:

When you run the recovery cd you get the error message 'bad machine '.

The CD of Builder/Restore Configuration looks for a specific string of the DMI
who identifies the model of the computer you are using and compare it
information on the CD. If these two do not match error
'machine wrongly' occurs. Your authorized Service provider can Toshiba
Difficulty an incorrect bios corrupted or empty using a special diagnosis
tool to rewrite the DMI string.

If you are certain that you have the correct Configuration generator.
CD recovery for your computer, then go to your most loved
    Toshiba authorised service provider.

    Maybe he can help you.

  • Cannot start Windows 10 (Partition exists in the startup disk)

All files etc are in the score, and it is an option in 'Start Up' disc. It is not just show when booting with the down option. Orders/Info added on similar topics:

    Other points

    • If I try to use 'Start Up' drive to restart Windows, it does not work, I just get a black screen.
    • Due to the configuration that I can't really afford to reinstall everything on a new partition I would everything white / software installed, install Windows 7, upgrade to 10, reinstall various licenses etc, it would take me 2 days and my schedule does not allow for this.
    • I went through many discussions of the forum here: my background is software/web, no hardware, so the command line is a bit strange for me, but I can follow the instructions I have not successfully updated my "products" but I'm still on a MBP of the retina, the current captain.

Please help me get out of a mess in that I have unintentionally! Thank you!

I finally found this answer of the LonerT who fixed this issue for me https://discussions.apple.com/message/29579529#29579529 thank you!

  • Bootcamp partition bootable no more after the addition of another partition

Until a few days ago that my Bootcamp and OSX worked very well together. When I did my Win10 partition I created it with 64 GB of space. After a while the hard drive became too small, so I decided to add more space to him. The method that I was about to use is: create another partition 64, go to windows, mix two partitions with windows software.

After you have created the partition, I couldn't open Windows more. First he gave me the infamous "no bootable disc not found" - error and later the Bootcamp partition went in the menu selection that start with alt down. I tried several methods, I saw on the internet, but somehow I can not use the command "write" with fdisk, it gives me this error: "fdisk: / dev/disk0: operation not permitted".

Another mistake I met is: "fdisk: could not open/usr/standalone/i386/boot0 MBR file: no such file or directory" when you use the command "sudo fdisk e/dev/disk0. I tried this method (the solved by one): repair Boot Camp after having created the new partition and also some methods more I found on the internet, including some methods gdisk. They seem to all fail because the operation is not allowed when using "write".

El Capitan requires SIP should be disabled in the local food only, otherwise these operations fail. You cannot use Fdisk to correct this problem. You need GPT Fdisk (Gdisk) to rebuild the MBR hybrid. Please see Re: [help] can't start Windows (8.1) after resizing partition for example.

  • Delete/reformat the drive hard partition (s) to activate the operating system reinstall

I have a HP 2000 2b09wm. He just broke, gives me the error message saying in that I needed a new hard drive. Suppose the old went kaput (even though I bought this pc on eBay not a month or two before). I have a new HD and a Windows 8 reinstall the software from a dealer on eBay. I tried several routes to try to reinstall the OS, resulting in many dead ends *. I asked the dealer to help, but did not get much. The last thing he offered was to remove the partitions in the new HD. I looked at a page eHow, how to remove Partitions on a hard drive. It is said to get a CD which includes fdisk.com. I burned super fdisk (2 MB) of SFbootablecd.iso and fdisk (40 MB) of fd11src.iso. I went into the BIOS to set the boot order. I put the saved first, CD/DVD-ROM internal drive and tried the two CDs. It always starts with just a screen with this:

    Not found boot device
Please install an operating system on your hard drive
    Hard drive (3F0)
    F2 System Diagnostics
For more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

I even tried to put the CD/DVD ROM USB drive first... same results.

So my questions to you, I guess, is first of all, why the CDs fdisk is not start? I burn the evil fdisk? Second, do you know why my OS couldn't be installed using the software to reinstall? The guy I got it (http://www.ebay.com/itm/181524428825?_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT) , verified_computer_specialists, has excellent comments, so I guess that the software is legitimate and the computer is actually original with Windows 8.

    Thank you.

    * A couple of the streets:

Compatibility report - the computer has started using the Windows installation media. Remove the installation media, and then restart your computer so that Windows starts normally. Then, insert the installation media and restart the upgrade. Do not select [Advanced ICustom] I do a upgrade. [Advanced ICustom] I install a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings.

Another path to the Windows installation, I get this: select the driver to install: browse folder - access the driver and then click OK.
It gives you the list under 'Computer' which includes "CD drive (E HRM_CCSA_X64FRE_EN-US_DV5)" (resettlement software) and below, support records - sources of boot - efi --.
Simply choose drive E itself, the message appears: load a driver: no signed device not found driver. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK.

Enter the BIOS and disable Secure Boot-enable Legacy boot, save & exit. Try to boot again from the disk Win 8.

  • Disk partedUtil utility command-line on ESXi disk partitioning

    Hi all

I created the partition by using the utiliy of command-line partedUtil on ESXI in the face of error below:

    • error: "Invalid guid (0xfb). Contains non hexadecimal numbers
    • Is not a valid guid (fb). Length should be 32
    • Is not a valid guid (251). Length should be 32

Can you advise me how to solve the problem of the partition.

    Hi Prashant.

VMFS data warehouses can be created and deleted using the vSphere client connected to an ESXi/ESX host or vCenter Server. It is not necessary to manually create partitions by using the command line utility. For more information, see the Configuration Guide for your version of ESXi/ESX storage management.

    Resolution

You can use the partedUtil command line utility to directly manipulate local and remote tables of partitions on the disks of SAN on ESX and ESXi.

The partedUtil command-line is only supported for ESXi 5.x disk partitioning. The command-line utility fdisk does not work with LUN formatted with VMFS5.

Note: This article is from the principle that a console session is available to the host ESX or ESXi, you're familiar with console management concepts and the disk, and you did backups appropriate before proceeding. For more information, see:

Unable to connect to a host ESX using Secure Shell (SSH) (1003807) or

Using the Mode of Support Tech in ESXi 4.1 and 5.x ESXi (1017910).

If you are not sure of any step, contact the VMware Support.

  • After a failed raid array recovery my data store is missing

    Hi all

I'm under ESXi at home, but I have a problem with that I need help

First of all, let me start with the specs:

    ESXI: 5.1.0,799733

RAID Controller: Adaptec 6805 (driver of the community with the support)

Configuration of RAID: RAID 5 12,71 TB of disk

I had some problems with my RAID controller which I solved it using the Adaptec article: a table failed can be recovered? I ended up drop the table and re-create it.

The RAID array is now in OPTIMUM condition, so I started ESXi and connected using vSphere to find all my virtual machines as unknown (Inaccessible).

I started googling and found some information, but nothing so far to solve this problem.

I tried info from these links:

    - Problems after RAID5 which are now resolved, I am not able to mount VMFS

  • Please help recover a datastore to VMFS 3 in ESXi 5.1 U1

    Hey guys,.

I need help pretty bad here.

I have several data stores which are almost VMFS 5 except the one that is 3 VMFS. Today, I turned off my box to check something in the bios (no changes made), but when the system back upward, the VMFS 3 data store was unreadable.

I followed a tutorial in line and together try to fix the partition table. However, I put the GPT partition table when I think the VMFS 3 store was MBR.

    My steps:

    1 partedUtil getUsableSectors /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.50015179590f8c3f

It gave me a message along the line of any partition or an invalid partition. Do not remember.

    2 partedUtil setptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.50015179590f8c3f TPG ' 1 2048 4123456 AA31E02A400F11DB9590000C2911D1B8 0.

Then I made the foregoing according to an on-line tutorial and forgetting that my data store was VMFS3 and MBR.

    3 partedUtil getUsableSectors /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.50015179590f8c3f

This gave me a result of 312581774

    4 partedUtil setptbl /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.50015179590f8c3f TPG ' 1 2048 312581774 AA31E02A400F11DB9590000C2911D1B8 0.

Then I part 4 - following the tutorial

Clearly, this was the wrong thing to do for my drive. Can anyone help solve this?

Here is the disc. It shows the disk mounted, but ESXi is not able to find the existing volume and mount the virtual machines on it.

Also, here's the KB, I followed: VMware KB: Re-create a missing partition of VMFS datastore in VMware vSphere 5.0/5.1/5.5

It seems to work, I get results back, but run the above commands again gives the same results if. Can someone help me with this please?

OK, so I tried to look for other combinations of error messages and others and found some info on that. Seems he is kind of a common problem and it is generally due to two reasons.

    (1) the logic unit number is too big (more than 2 TB). However, mine was 1.82 TB.

    (2) if there is previous data on the VMWare drives may have problems reading it. I reset (both quick and full), the RAID repeatedly, which is supposed to make the blank disc, but it did not help.

But see the ' Note: sector size is 4096 (not 512) "message made me think. Maybe I chose the size of sector 'wrong' when I recreated the RAID array... I went into the RAID bios and deleted the berries, recreate them again with the sector size 512. In addition, to be absolutely sure, I created two logical drives instead of one; 1 @ 1 TB and 1 @ 820GB.

Booted up and went well add guide to storage again and this time it worked fine.

I remember no adjustment of the sector size to anything other than the default value is 512. And even with a size of 4 KB allocation. So, really, I'm leaning towards the size of the logical disk. Odd how VMWare is supposed to manage up to 2048 GB, but still.

  • LOST or CORRUPT VMFS (data store)

    Hello

strange symptoms, when saving comments via the network on the NAS Server freeze.

No disk error, allow to manage but no o off not restart guest system.

Restart Vmware (4.0.0 261974 on HP DL380G4 - Smart Array 6i) and Datastore disappeared!

    No errors on the disc,

    2 disk raid 6i, a RAID 1 OK (36 GB X 2) a RAID 5 (146 X 3) ok ok but this data store is gone!

On the storage card, I see 'Vmware disk Local (mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0) but no data store '.

    No vmfs or another partition...

    I try this solution:

-Rescan store, but not reassign datastore

-Rescan with change EnableResignature and disable DiallowSnapshotLun.

A lot of help via the forum vmware or google:

and many other, but no solution.

    in/dev/disks I see

    MPX.vmhba1:C0:T1:l0

But if fdisk /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0 answer me

    Fdisk: can't read /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0

I'm trying to suggest to the KB 1009829 and esxcfg-scsidevs - c see my unrecognized store

but fdisk my same error response:

    Fdisk: can't read /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0

If I try /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1 response is

    Fdisk: cannot open of /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1

I guess that the syntax is correct, because if I put another store (C0:T0:L0) I get the correct message

    fdisk-l don't see C0:T1:L0

in other KB (1008886) suggest me to use parted, but console vmware 4 do not have this command! I tried partedUtil and I see this:

    partedUtil get /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1:C0:T1:L0

    35697 255 63 573480304

What is - this? change this? which?

I have download parted (gnu) but everything installed try I get "configure: Permission denied ' suggest?

    I try KB (1009565)

    and I get this:

    ~ # vmkfstools Pei /dev/disks/mpx.vmhba1\:C0\:T1\:L0

    devfs-1 file system, spanning partitions 0 00.

    I try KB (1002281)

but fdisk 'can not read... ". »

Please help with suggest another way...

    Thank you!

There is a road to try to recover partition?

That's why I suggested to run the ACU. To check the controller has all the problems and presents the logical volume properly to the operating system.
