  • Bootcamp partition disappeared after fdisk commands

    Hello

I have a serious problem caused by my own stupidity,

I tried to resize my partition, bootcamp, with no success, of course.

    Here is what happened,

I resized the MAC OS X partition and made a new 100 GB. Then I tried to restart Windows that did not work.

A black screen appears not saying no device found Boot... Insert and press a key.

I rebooted to mac OS X and searching the forums, I ended up find a thread of a few years.

He said try a few commands to disc, I did, it didn't work. Then I have a little "creative / reckless" and tried between the two commands.

I guess I deleted or seriously damaged my MBR, although it could be a TPG. I do not know.

Now, I can't see my Bootcamp partition in the finder.

I see the size of the partition in the disk utility application, if I look at the full hard disk partition scheme

It's the score 'Naamloos' is where bootcamp has been stored and as you can see I can't access it or what so ever.

However in the terminal, I can see the partition

My question is, if I can restore this partition?

And if not, I can see the data on that partition?

A lot of work not saved is there and final exams are almost!

I'm sorry for the post probably not correct 'according to the rules of the forums"and the faulty use of the language and the incorrect spelling.

  • Fdisk.exe

I noticed that when I use provided by Windows 98SE Fdisk.exe to partition a drive that is longer than 64 GB (68.719.476.736 bytes) in size, the Fdisk does not report the good size of the hard drive. Everyone knows this? Anyone know why this happens?

I had the same problem when you use the Fdisk.exe with Windows 95. I got it fixed by downloading a Microsoft supported fix for this error of reading the disk size.

I have FDISK would be the drive because there is sensitive data present and created a primary partition of C, start the Xp Cd brings to the top of the blue screen of death after going through the normal configuration bits.

I tried spinning round with a USB plextor nothing helped, so I need to get the boot from cd pcmcia r100 and so he can go through the xp install everything without crashing.

Of course, this is a common question but could not find a reference to it here, appreciate all responses pointing me in the right direction...

    Thank you Neil'os...

    Hello

As far as I know this camera comes with Windows XP Home edition Professional. You have the original recovery CD and Toshiba PCMCIA reader eternal? On this path, the installation will be easy. Otherwise, it can be very complicated. Original restore CD contains the correct driver for the external device from Toshiba.

If you have two partitions on the HARD disk are trying to copy the facilities on the second CD and start from there.

    Hello

Why you do not restore CD to create new partitions? It can be done very quickly. This option is available in the installation in Expert mode.

  • Satellite A30 - shuts down during the installation of recovery or FDISK

I have a Satellite A30 and I wanted all off it delete and start from scratch.

Turned back with disc 1 CD product recovery, started well I was prompted to insert disk 2, it does well to about 80% then erased screen, then got the message "invalid partition table". I tried again and same thing happened. Connected FDISK back and chose option 1. 'create a DOS Partition or logic back drive' and the laptop stops. I put the startup option for no network or HARD drive CD player. At startup without inserted discs, I get the following. PXE - E61 madia tset failure, check cable.
PXE - m0f: exit PXE ROM then freezes.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not sure at 100%, but from your description, I think that HARD drive get in trouble.
How pxe message shows that means laptop can not find device bootable and as last it will boot from LAN.

If possible, try to get a new HARD drive and check if the recovery procedure completes successfully. Old IDE hard drives are not more expensive. To test you can also use a used purposes, but of course has no HDD vice.

  • How to run Fdisk in Windows XP?

NOTE: In the right forum, if not, please let me know and I'll see about the scoring of the question.

Although without report, I am creating a Bootable Flash Drive to upgrade my Linux based laptop computer...

I tried many products and advice given to me by the Forums on said that Linux OS... with no. prevail for a result.
For now, I am running a Windows XP Home Edition Desktop computer, which is rarely used.
My question is I know about Windows Vista and Windows 7 that we have access to the Fdisk command via the command prompt.
How can I get the command Fdisk on Windows XP? When I type the command it with ours that it is not a recognized command.
I know for some versions of XP, I need to extract a .cab file, but not quite sure if this will help in this case.
I'm just trying to make a Bootable Flash for Linux and Windows OS player based in the future, so I need the fdisk command so that I can clean format, mark as active, and just copy the files .iso on the said drive to make it bootable.
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • He had to do something as an fdisk to wipe everything on my hard drive

I installed a new hard drive in the computer of my son a couple of days.  The installation included a ton of windows updates Windows XP Pro.  Everything worked very well this night the next morning, I decided to start the computer one last time before I gave it back to my son.  After I started it, I noticed there was another update to install.  This is the SP 3.  After that I installed and don't reboot, I went into the Device Manager just to check things out and found a few issues that I don't think were there before the SP 3 update.  Under "Other devices", he showed problems with a PCI device, a Serial Bus and a USB controller.

The computer is a Dell E521 and it came with Vista installed on it.  My son wanted to get the hard drive replaced so he could destroy it and he wanted to installed XP because he thinks, that it will sell faster with XP.

I tried to do a repair of XP, which does not solve the problem, and I tried to find the drivers for the PCI device, bus series and the download site controller driver Dell, but have no way to know what drivers will fix the problems and I spent a ton of time on the web, trying to find the drivers with no luck , so I decided that the easy way is to do a Fdisk.  However, after some research, I discovered that you can't do a Fdisk with XP.

Bottom Line: Someone can tell me how to wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP or can someone give me a link that has the necessary steps to wipe the hard drive and reinstall XP?

    Thank you.

  • How my hard drive fdisk

Is there any where where I can print the instructions step by step on how to fdisk my hard drive? my computer is less than a year and a virus because of the devastation and its buried in my registry.  If I re - install windows, the virus is still there because I can't update anything, windows or virus scan, and I can't even patch my video game.  I tried recovery windows & re install windows. Update does not work, so I know the virus is still there.

You can use him Active @ KillDisk utility to erase the drive completely. You can download the Image ISO bootable Killdisk from the following URL:

  • What is the difference between Fdisk and Chkdsk programs?

    Hello:

I don't think I have a common question of OS knowledge and I worked a lot with both, however for years so I forgot everything I used to know.  I was talking to someone Executibles MS-DOS command line and this person I know told me in email and I did not at the moment, but he said the following:

"Fdisk and chkdsk are pretty much the same.

Being an old Microsoft OS Engineer I knew it was wrong, however I've been retired since almost 20 years and I have not worked with either for a while.  I looked in the KB for articles explaining the difference between fdisk and chkdsk or define at least the two against each other, but there is no specific article I could find.  I remember the days when the scariest user had a problem, but they ran all third party software on their computer and have installed BETA version software etc so I'm sure you know the drill and this type of person.

The person who said this about fdisk and chkdsk is one of those people.  It is a really nice guy, but a nightmare to Microsoft when you talk to a convenience store to the BONE for assistance.  Is there someone out there who could you, please, help me and summarize an irrefutable definition or description indicating the differences between fdisk and chkdisk?  I don't remember the basic functions both I widely used both, but too many years have passed and I don't want to sound like a fool trying to write about the differences.

I'd appreciate any help I want to educate my friend and the intention is to not make this person feel like a stupid either.

Thank you, and I expect your response.

    Eric

The two are completely different, one is a format utility the other is a utility disk check

  • Windows 98SE, fdisk/format?

    Dear reader,

I know this has been covered before but I am almost completely new to... cordially invited MS-DOS operating systems running - I was still a young child in those older that me were folding their minds around it.

I'm running OS X 10.8 and have Vmware Fusion 4.1.3.  The problem is that I try to install Windows 98SE using this software.   I have concerned ISO installation and also the IMG for the startup disk.

Both and so good, but then we come to the installation itself during the virtual machine startup.  I type r: [Enter] [Enter] installation and something or another tells me that I "can't create a temporary directory' and then there's something about formats.  He also was drawn to my attention that perhaps I am missing a BACK at first... How could I know that?

I googled this and the words 'fdisk' and 'format' crop everywhere (as well as in these forums).  Appreciating the fact that those who were at least in their adolescence when 98SE was released probably know exactly what they need to do.  I don't have... more googling, it seems are being challenged to know what to do in the first place - first format or fdisk first?

I found this quote promising but, for me, it's entirely in another language:

I have started the virtual machine, do fdisk to one > prompt, copied in C format: on the diskette (really an iso), rebootted the machine virtual format C:, and then typed E:\win98\setup to any > prompt and I was turned off...

Be prepared to take me by the hand and show me what to do step by step and I invite you to leave as little as possible for interpretation.  I hope you can be patient with me.

    Kind regards.

I just tested a Windows 98SE installation and he didn't need a floppy disk at all. The installation immediately released the CD. Have you already tried that?

  • What does Fdisk-lu actually mean?

    People:

I'm not a Linux guy, so forgive me for this question "junior."  When I 1st started with VMware I loaded ESX 3.5 and thought that the default partitions proposed by the GUI should be good enough. 1 year later, 2 guests ran fine without any problems, everything should be OK. Recently, I upgraded to ESX 4.0 via the Update Manager Vcenter, so always good. Of course along the way, I found many, many opinions on what "partition" best sizes should be for ESX. OK, I was able to understand some issues, as if the default location for the unannounced dumps core is full, he picks up the file system in the partition.

Study for my VCP - 410 exam, there are many references to the size of 'minium' partition to install ESX4.0. My experience in the world of Windows "diskpart" was a subject that you didn't really want to play around. So today, I decided to 'see' what were the partitions on my server ESX4.0 (pasted below). Using fdisk-lu, df-h and vdf - h, I realized that "dev/cciss/c0d0px" partitions are on the system drive local (locally for this ESX host boots), which is a HP Smartarray RAID1 72 GB table on a server BL680. I can deal with that, I see 7 partitions, which I can understand the VMFS file would be based on the size of the partition.

What I can't understand where is the/dev/sdax "disks/partitions" coming from? It seems that/dev/sda5 = / dev/cciss/c0d0p2 &/dev/sda2 = / dev/cciss/c0d0p7 (I assume that on the size of the partition). Can someone tell me what the "decoder" secret of ring, it's that I'm missing here? Is there a 'physical' of 'logic' device name mapping device that I need to understand?

PS: Yes I'm not run cleanup ESX3.5 script (/ usr/sbin/cleanup-esx3) yet. Had only 5 days on ESX4.0.

So you say to the COS ESX uses this VMDK 'reader' divided into partitions/dev/sda1/2/3/5, Yes?

Right... are partintions of a single vmdk file.

dev/cciss/c0/d0/p7, 2 = the 'old' partitions COS divides for ESX 3.5?

You must read the point of editing... for example with the release of df:

    / dev/CCISS/c0d0p1 99 M 71 M 24 M 75% / esx3-installation/boot

    Yes... to exit fdisk:

    / dev/CCISS/c0d0p5 143091018 143299799 fc VMware VMKCORE 104 MB 104391

    / dev/CCISS/c0d0p6 = swap for ESX Kernal?

Yes... but is not used by ESX 4.0, it was former swap space

    / dev/CCISS/c0d0p1 = the boot partition?

    Yes... output of df:

    / dev/CCISS/c0d0p1 99 M 71 M 24 M 75% / Boot

As you see it is as well the boot for ESX 3.5 and 4.0 partition... It is usual

  • Help with fdisk?

I have a Dell R900 and all storage is on local.  A container is 2x300Gb in reverse, and the other is 6x300Gb RAID-5.  I formatted with blocks of 1 Mb when the server was initially set up, but now I need to redo the larger partition with 4 MB blocks.  All sessions have been moved, so there is no loss of data if I f reformat the hard disk.

I tried the command as follows:

    vmkfstools - ch. vmfs3 b 4 M /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60024e8070008600120483a60aaf60cc

    and got this back:

Creating vmfs3 file system on "naa.60024e8070008600120483a60aaf60cc" with block 4194304 and volume, "nil".

/VMFS/devices/disks/NAA.60024e8070008600120483a60aaf60cc: permission denied.  (Have you defined the type of partition to 0xfb?)

    Error: Permission denied

Now how to use the fdisk tool to set the type of partition to '0xfb', so I can run vmkfstools with above command?

I do all this via an SSH session.

    -ttpura

    Follow these steps:

    (1) fdisk /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60024e8070008600120483a60aaf60cc

    (2) the "n" for the new partition type

    (3) select 'p' for the primary partition

    (4) type "1" for enter the partition No.

    (5) tap "enter" twice to set the default cylinder blocks (assuming you want the total size of the disk for the partition)

    (6) the "t" type to change the partition type.

    (7) '1' for the type partition not.

    (8) type "fb" to set the type of partition to VMFS

    (9) type 'w' to save the new partition table & quit.

    Use "vmkfstools vmfs3 - C b 4 M /vmfs/devices/disks/naa.60024e8070008600120483a60aaf60cc:1" to create the vmfs file system.
