  See if you can download the files to a folder on the desktop with the Finder or the transfer of images and try importing from there in the library.  If that works reformat the memory card in the camera, take a few test shots and try to re-import from there.

  If you point to the folder that contains the pictures on your hard disk, the Add option should be available. It's not in the cards or the camera import.

  If the files are identical, they have reconnected.

  From now on, all I can suggest is delete the last batch import of files you imported earlier. And try to manually reconnect with their counterparts of the files on the disk. I know its annoying, but it's the only option left IMO.

  It is always advisable to take a backup of the catalog from time to time to avoid such situations.

Most of these problem photos was that I saved text messages, that is, they have been taken by someone else on an iPhone and sent a text message to me. I found that a few images very, very old stopped appearing as 'new '.  The problem currently extends to images taken in January 2016 (4-5 months).  Old images that one used to behave this way decided to leave appear as "new".  Apple, if you're reading this, please assign someone to look into the issue. If anyone has a way to get it to stop, please speak.  Thank you.
