File in the applications folder

I accidentally dragged a + 1 GB MP4 file in my applications folder. When I try to drag the output file, it appears only in my movies folder (or another folder, including the desktop) as an alias of 440 KB. Through the get info (command I) I have reset the permissions so anyone can read/write, but the same problem persists. How can I fix this problem so I can drag the real file on applications and in the movie as a complete file folder? It is a weird scenario I have not experienced before.

Thank you.

Hey Danielmak,

Certainly a strange scenario with your MP4 showing a reduction in the size with a few hundred KBs Alias. Not to worry, this should do the trick for you.

Try right click on the file that is located in the Apps folder, and then click Copy 'filename '. Once you have copied to the clip board, you can then paste the original file in the folder sequences or according to folder that you choose. After you have copied, open the folder that you copied the file and check it's there and can open as expected. If all is good, you can delete the file you have in the Applications folder to remove it from this place.

Thank you for using communities of Apple Support. Have a great day!

On Mac, the file appears in the folder something like a shortened (as in the picture):

If I open the mobile application (i.e. PDF Expert) there is a copy of the file in the application folder.

I first thought that would happen only with Expert PDF, but I discovered that it happens with any application that is enabled in the settings of the iCloud drive. It's really annoying to remove them, every time that you open the. That this feature was actually supposed to do, is create a folder in iCloud drive that is assigned to the application on any device to iCloud.

Maybe someone knows how to turn it off, or maybe it's just a bug.

It looks like a feature and not a bug.

iCloud is not really duplicate files in the files collection of application.  It looks like a file duplicate of the same size as the original, that you have opened, but iCloud is record storage by creating symbolic links. .

I checked several of apparent duplicates in the Terminal, and if I list the file with the Terminal command

    1. go to a user admin account

Connect using built in Administrator | Create the local admin account. 7, 8, Windows Vista

Install or run Adobe applications in the new user account. Mac OS X

2 remove the application DW CC 2014 by uninstalling or using the cleantool.

    3. manually delete the directories of config according to KB: (you need to of course search the CC 2014 folder instead of the older versions in the KB)

    Restore preferences | Dreamweaver CS4, CS5, CS5.5, CS6

This step will ensure that also the configuration file will be regenerated on re installation!

4 reinstall on the new admin account and test again. If works please go back to the old account and test again.

  • Have dwnloaded Firefox, but invites to drag in the applications folder does not

Downloaded Firefox, but invites him to drag the icon to the applications folder does not occur. Please notify. Thank you

If the disk image file is not opened automatically, then you must open the DMG file yourself.

Open the Firefox disk image file and drag the Firefox program into the Applications folder on your hard drive.
Do not double-click the Firefox to run from the disk image, but instead, drag it out of the DMG file.

  • Downloaded Firefox and it will work in mode dmg but will not be displayed in the application folder, even if I hang out there.

It will run fine (but slow) until I got disabling my computer. When I turn it back on, I need to click on the disc image as if it had not been installed.

Make sure that Firefox is installed correctly.

Open the Firefox disk image file and drag the Firefox program into the Applications folder on your hard drive.

  • Add a tag to when they fell into the Applications folder

    Hello

I want to add tags to my applications for categorization when I drop them into the Applications folder. In my way of novice, I created a folder Automator action where I add Spotlight comments to the app, but that's not what I want to do, I want to label it. The only other option is aimed at Finder label but that gives you just seven color options. I want to have a promt asking me what tag I want to attribute to the request, exactly as it does for the Spotlight comment action. Is this possible with Automator or should I look elsewhere, like AppleScript?

I have two solutions to bypass, where the first is a combination of Automator and Hazel (probably consume more memory) where I use the Spotlight comment action in Automator and then let Hazel tag of the file via a dynamic tag (comment Spotlight under 'other' element of choice). But it is almost useless, because if I just replace an existing file, the workflow is not triggered, in this case only if a new file is added. How can I make the workflow work on new and existing files? The same thing happens when I use the alternative workaround, I integrate Quicksilver in an Automator workflow to send the item (file) to Quicksilver if I where he can score. Any suggestion is welcome!

    Thanks in advance!

With or without Automator, AppleScript script would be the way to go.  You'll have the same problem with actions folder be it, however, they are only triggered when a component is added to a watched folder.

You can use the URL of cocoa class to add your tags - this topic of the mailing list has the script library routines (note that you can use directly in a script of El Capitan).

  • Bad icon in the Applications folder - good point about the taskbar

I installed Firefox. Logo of Firefox to the applications folder, but what is displayed is a different logo, with a white circle and a slash through the circle (as the crossed red circle on one car don't symbolize the 'no parking' on a road sign). When I dragged this logo in the taskbar, the correct Firefox logo appears in the taskbar, but in my file applications, strange logo is still there. Don't know if this means that there is a problem with the installation - were displayed no error message during the installation.

  • Skype not opening after having moved to the Applications folder

Back a few months ago, I downloaded Skype on my computer. I was still pretty unfamiliar with the Mac at the time, so I was not very well what to do with the dmg that I got. Simply do not know better, I ended up launching Skype from the dmg. That's how I used Skype until very recently. A few months after this happened, I learned that you were supposed to copy the application in the Applications folder on the dmg. However I did not worth to fix this error until now (in order to remove this disk image of Skype sitting there). I deleted the Skype of the dmg icon on my dock and copied in the Applications folder. I then tried to run, but it crashed before it could do something. The main window of Skype did not appear.

If it's worth anything, there is a very old version of Skype on this computer, the surplus of when a member of the family used a few years ago. However Skype on the dmg would be fine, so I doubt that this could be the culprit.

    I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.3 on an iMac 27-inch Mid-2010.

We always recommend to install the latest version of Skype... That said, try this: download the latest version by clicking on the link at the top of this forum page downloads. Then, open the Skype.dmg file you will find in your downloads folder. Drag and drop the Skype icon to the icon of the folder Applications in THIS WINDOW. This will install Skype. Subsequently, you will find Skype (the application) in the Applications folder on your hard drive, where you can start. Once it launches, click right (or click/hold) Skype in the Dock icon and select Options. Choose to keep Skype in the Dock, and it will fortunately still live there then.

  • Thousands of PES files in the root folder of drive D?

I'm under PSE 13 on a Windows 7 system. I was shocked and horrified to discover, after use of PSE 13 days that the root folder of my D: drive where I have installed PSE13 has nearly SEVEN THOUSAND files! These are for the most part of the xml, bmp, jpg, psd, mp4 and .gif files. It is an absolute no no prospects of a good Windows file system management. Applications should NEVER store hundreds or thousands of files in the folder root of the drive, one. That is why the sous-sous-sous-dossiers/sous-sous-sous-repertoires.  Can you imagine the chaos if every application developer did it?

More surely there be a way to specify where these organizing files can be stored and place them in the folder of my hard disk where they are absolutely not?

    mxgordon wrote:

... Unless it started in PES 11 I had installed before the upgrade to 13, however, when 11 was installed, it's all on the C: drive. I pass the process of conversion of the catalogue of 11 to 13.

    The files usually have names like 'B0000000.pref', 'B0000002', 'B0000005.dat', B0000006.xml, 'B0003495.xml', 'B0003496.bmp', ' "B0006834."» "JPG", "B0006816.psd" and a huge 2 GB of files "Photoshop Temp2287141416368".

What you show, it is the content of a backup folder. It's a pretty common problem to find all the files in a folder root of a drive when the destination of the backup folder was not specified, the drive letter.

A backup folder contains files renamed image as "". B000000 ". "JPG", where the suffix is maintained. All the other files and subfolders are renamed in the original catalog file. More important still, the backup folder contains the two most important files, "catalog.buc"(a copy renamed your database "catalog.pse11db" and a "backup.tly" file that contains all the information to rename the files and store them in their structure of tree of file origin of the command of the "restoration" of the Organizer. Catalog backup file is usually created on an external EHD. The restoration process normally allows you to set the location of the main folder on the backup drive. Users don't often specify a folder to create for this purpose; I always recommend to create the backup folder before the restore process.

Your case is a little more complicated due to several factors:

-you have converted from version 11 to 13

    -you have installed an SSD

-you have installed software elements on D: which is something not 1% of typical users will do.

This and your answer shows that you and only you can find what you've done to get the contents of a backup in the root folder. The answer requires you to remember all of the previous steps, you have done to convert the backup and migrate to the D: drive.

What is not clear to me of your two different messages, is if the problem is to find files cumbersome and unnecessary in the root or folder if you have also problems with your catalogs and library of image files. If you have no problem to remove unwanted files from the root folder, you simply use Explorer to delete all files starting with "B00" over the catalog.buc and backup.tly file. Instead of delete, you can even move them to a newly created folder: this will create a valid backup folder.

Thanks in advance for your comments, they can be very useful for other users.

  • CS3 Uninstaller did not remove all files in the Application

A few months ago, I bought a new MacBook Pro. When I did, I used Apple migration assistant to move my programs from my old MacBook to my new MacBook. Adobe CS 3.3 applications have been migated. I recently bought the upgrade to 5.5 Web Premium CS. I wanted to uninstall CS 3.3 before installing CS 5.5 to save hard disk space. So, I ran the Adobe uninstaller program (Applications > utilities > uninstall Adobe programs). The Adobe uninstaller program found no any product remains on my MacBook, although they were installed and working. So, I reinstalled CS 3.3 and then tried the uninstall program Adobe again. This time, the uninstall program found all the products and said that it uninstalled all the. However, it has not removed the files of the application of my MacBook. I tried to launch that the Adobe CS cleaner and who also did not remove the files in the application.

How can I go about deleting the files of the application?

Is it safe to simply drag the folder for each application of CS in the trash at this point?

How can I remove Version Cue CS3 to my system preferences?

    Thank you!

You should find the uninstaller for Acrobat 9 Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro folder.  Once removed, then remove to other Adobe applications you have listed in the Applications folder.  In addition, you can also find files for Adobe applications listed in the following locations:

    / Library/Application Support/Adobe

    /Users//application support/Adobe

    / Applications/utilities/Adobe Installers.

    / Applications/utilities/Adobe utilities /.

You may need to reinstall Flash player and Shockwave after this procedure, but it must remove the files used by CS3.  You can try installing CS5.5 right there.  I would still be careful if you encounter problems with the installation or that still a problem removing Acrobat 9 it will be still more efficient to take a step back and restore the Mac operating system and run the Migration Wizard again as previously advised.
