files copied to the CD in Vista appear in 'read only' on Windows XP

Were copy of a document written on a desktop with Vista on a CD.  When inserted in my Windows XP laptop, it appears as a 'read only' document and I can't type or make changes.  What I am doing wrong? Save me it is bad, they are not compatible systems?  Any help is appreciated, also please answer as if you were talking to a student of 3rd because it's on the level of my computer knowledge.  Thank you!

Thanks for your help, but I thought about it before you replied.  Here is the solution to my problem: my microsoft office 2003 trial period had expired and I was able to read the documents that I had copied to CD. I kept getting the message: unauthorized modification because the document is locked. I googled the trial office free microsoft downloads, download Microsoft Office 2007 trial version and now have free for a few months. The entire document is now in the format of some because it was written (in Microsoft Word Office 2007) and I can edit and add to the document.  Finally, I have to pay for it, but at least my problem was solved!

As Chetna asked, you export original?  Yes, you are. It is asking to export a copy of your original file, that is, of course, not changed. So, Yes, you won't see any of your changes. That's why you can not apply a watermark. Adding a watermark in the image he'd a file not original.

  • FTP .txt file copied correctly the cRio

I use the 'FTP Get File.vi"to retrieve a .txt file of my CRio, which is then copied on my host.  The file is a delimited data tab.  The file copied all the data a except that the copy has a blank line between each set of data.  These additional lines take me to read the incorrect lines when the file is read in my program later with the "reading a spreadsheet file.  These additional lines come  I checked the original on the cRio file transfer via MAX and these lines do not exist.  Can someone tell me how to solve this problem?  Thank you

If you look at the entries for the File.vi FTP Get, you will notice that there is one that says binary:

By default, this is false, which means that it copies the data in an ASCII format.  Try a real constant of wiring to this entry.  It's the need for VxWorks and Windows use different end of windowing.  This difference is probably the reason that it is adding lines to it.

  • Files appear in 'Read only' and unable to change that.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. A couple of weeks, I had a big problem with some of my permissions of the user being edited (don't know how I did it but it happened) so I was unable to access programs and files, after awhile with a MS tech on cat and a system restore (failed), I just created a new user account and delete the old one.

Everything seems to work fine now, but before I created the user account, I copied some files I had on the desktop to a flash drive and put them with my new office to the user. The property file to keep appearing as 'Read only' even after unchecking the choice and the application it is just when I close.

This also happens when I create a new folder on the desktop, its default property is 'Read Only' - why would this be and how can I change it?

    Hi GoodfellaJC,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site.

    Follow the steps mentioned below.

    Step 1:

To view or to remove the read-only or the attributes of system files in Windows Vista or Windows 7

    1. click on Start, click run, type cmd , and press ENTER.

    2. to view the syntax for the Attrib command, type attrib /? at the command prompt.

To remove the read-only attribute and to set the system attribute, use the following command:

    attrib - r + s drive:------------

For example, to remove the read-only attribute and set the attribute to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command:

    attrib - r + s c:\test

Be aware that some programs may not operate correctly with folders for which the read-only attribute and the system attribute are granted. Therefore, use the following command to remove these attributes:

    attrib - r s by car:------------

For example, to remove both the read-only and the attributes to system for the C:\Test folder, use the following command:

    attrib - r-s c:\test

If the run command is not listed in the Start menu, follow these steps:

Click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories , and then click run.

  • I have a problem with all the files and folders on the computer appearing as 'read only '.

Original title: scourge, each folder and file on each disc are read only and I can't change an any of them

What happens on my main server. When I choose to change something to read only to normal, he said read only status of disabled, but if I try to change the file or folder I can't change it and if I re - check its properties I find once again, it is read-only. I looged as the admin and I tried everything to put the file or folder read-only point and nothing happening. I plugged a flash drive for only to find that it was read-only.

Full Scan Virus and there are 10 viruses in my computer, 8 of the virus could be eliminated by removing the leader and two of them were to be eliminated by deleting the infected file.

The result is that my computer works fine now!

  • Photos appear as read only files

cannot remove the read-only my vista jointsdans.

I can't remove the read-only my files (at least in the photos).  It is provided with a solid box, not a check mark and I can't remove it.  I need to edit and print photos, and I don't know what to do.  The only software I have installed is a HP printer wireless on my home network.

    Hi HeatherSt,

-Have you noticed this change after you install HP printer software?
-Were you able to edit photos without any problems before?
Is there another account administrator user on your computer?

Note: It is possible that change a read-only file can cause a program that relies on the file to stop working properly, so be sure that it's okay to change a read-only file before you proceed.

Cannot change files read-only, but they can be copied, moved, renamed, or deleted. Therefore, try to Rename the file or perform one of these operations and check if that helps.

If you can't always change read-only, follow the steps in the link below:

  • Unable to connect to the internet on vista. Will aid upgrade of windows 7.

I can not connect to internet on my laptop Toshiba running Vista Home Basic.  My computer detects the wireless router and I tried the wired connection with no result.  When I run the repair of the network it is said that the diagnostic policy service is not running.  I tried the advice from microsoft to launch without success.  I am interested in upgrading to windows 7.  I need to fix this problem in vista first, or an upgrade to Windows 7 will solve the problem?

    Hi Francis,.
sounds like a driver for most problem, and I would recommend a restore to solve this issue of diagnosis.
However, to answer your question, the upgrade should not severe at all as long as you get the right drivers.

  • After the upgrade to Vista Home Premium (32 bit) for Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit), I can see my second hard drive in the Device Manager, but I am not able to access it in the Explorer... How can I fix it?

How can I access my hardrive second in windows Explorer after I have updated to Vista Home Premium (32 bit) for Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)?

Go to disk management and assign a drive letter to the drive.

  • The document can be encrypted or read-only

Due to the corruption of the boot files, I restored PC back to factory settings, recreated the user accounts and re-installed all software. The last step was to restore backup user files.

For example, to restore all files in c:/users/xyz in their original location. No problem, all of the files restored successfully.

However, when I go to c:/users/xyz/documents/abc.doc for example and you try to open the file, I get this "Word cannot access abc.doc. This document can be read-only or encrypted"message.

I look at the properties of the folder c:/user/xyz and see that the read-only check box is shaded. I disabled the read-ony assign and apply to all folders, subfolders and files. He goes and lists all the folders and files it modifies the attribute. The box is now without shading.

However, when I try to access any file, I get the orginal error. I then check the properties of the folder c:/user/xyz and the read-only check box is shaded again!

Same question if I try to change the read-only attribute of any file or subfolder level.

Whenever I try to access any file, the parameter returns to read-only.

    Any ideas?

Go to the folder and give you all the rights in both the main and the display screen advanced (including all subfolders and files).  In the screen advanced and then click the property tab take possession of the entire folder and all its subfolders and files.  Here are some tips that can help you.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/.  To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To resolve this problem with folders, appropriating the files or the drive (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html.  To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

Good luck and I hope this helps!
