Files corrupt on Satellite 2450

Hello world
about a year on a toshiba laptop - info below - my wife has complained that its files in Word 2003 have been mysteriously transformed into unreadable garble.
Text became symbols... or, a translation box appears, but there is no way to return this mutilated in its original file. Most of his recorded pictures have also disappeared. (The files remained, but each page was empty when opening). So I wanted to put this on this forum and see exactly what the Devil's going on.
I had my own problems with the laptop. I transferred more than 2100 JPEGs of my drive hard iomega and created a disc using nero. Everything was fine until I saw the disc on another dvd player - info files were black, some pictures would be partially visible, and the disk drive had trouble reading the cd. When I plugged in my Iomega hard drive in our old workhorse 98se and used an older version of nero, I got the cd and it played perfectly in 2 separate dvd players.

Hello

seems that the hard drive or RAM is defective. I don't know, but if I were you I exchanged these components as your problem doesn't sound like a software problem...
First try to replace the memory modules because they sometimes are the main reason for this error. I would test the modules with "SuperPi" before replacing the RAM. The same should be done with the hard disk, depending on the manufacturer of the HARD drive, I would check the Web site of the manufacturers for some specific tools of the reader to check if the drive works properly.

    Hello

You may also reinstall Win XP following this:
Copy the folder i386 disk Win XP on the HARD drive.
Then start the unit by using a bootable floppy disk and navigate to the i386 folder that you copied on the HARD disk.
Here, you could use the winnt.exe command who would start the Windows INSTALLATION.
Then simply follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

  • Satellite 2450-201 and the Installation of XP SP2

Can someone tell me why I can't install SP2 on my laptop? I even tried using the original CD of Microsoft, windows, corrupt and does not have anything else to safe mode. I restored my PC and turned off the automatic updates as I can not on this problem. Why the Satellite 2450-201 does not support XP SP2? (I read this on the Toshiba site)... PLEASE HELP THIS IS SO FRUSTRATING

  • Satellite 2450-101: can I run recovery external HARD drive or USB key using

    Hello.

I have a Satellite 2450-101, on which the DVD player seems to have failed (could be engine, laser; uncertain).

I want to perform a full restore of the product, using both disks that came with the computer.
Defective hard drives before, I copied the data on these disks to an external hard drive and a usb flash drive.

Is it possible for me to run the recovery of the proceeds of one of these media (or indeed any source, other than the internal DVD player)?

Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. See you soon.

Hmmm I doubt that this can be possible because it is not possible to boot from a USB flash or external HARD disk drive.

What you could do is to copy the folder the original Microsoft CD i386 on the HARD drive and then you can run setup.exe from this folder.
It would begin installing the XP installation program.

But Toshiba Recovery disk contains only image files and there is no i386 folder and therefore, you need the CD of XP Ms.

  • TextEdit files corrupt

New Mac Pro cylinder, Yosemite. When I open edit text and start typing, very often what I get on screen is a string of dollar signs. If I open an existing file, which may include the formatting - font sizes, colors, pasted in pictures - he often opens as single row after row of dollar signs. Or older paragraphs may be dollar signs, most recent may appear as in the format. Or vice versa. If I command-shift-T to remove the formatting, plain text is all there without foreign characters.

If I open a file corrupted on my old Mac Pro Tour (OSX 10.7 I think) the file is fine.

Someone at - it see something like this before? I use Linotype Font Explorer X on both machines without any problem, do not know if who is involved? But in general all who help the police by default TextEdit chooses.

Is there a way to clean-install TextEdit only? I liked TE years to keep project notes and record things like revenue, the procedures of the darkroom, things of type Notepad. Never had a single problem this machine.

Is there a way to clean-install TextEdit only?

    N °

Go to the Applications folder > fonts Book.app

FontBook > file >restore to the Unicode Standard

There maybe something similar to Linotype do explore X if it is the substitution of your police Book.app

There also may be an updated version of your Linotype Font Explorer X

  • Satellite 2450-S203 - installed XP SP1 of recovery CD - cannot update

The hard drive on my Satellite 2450 S203 has not then I replaced and installed XP from the recovery CD. Everything's fine. I now have a PC running XP SP1.

I tried the update of XP start > all progtrams > Windows update but it failed, the updated software I used was not compatible with the update site or something similar.

I found a site of Microsoft, who said I had to install SP1a and then put to SP1a update to SP3. I downloaded the SP1a installation tool and it seemed to do things, and I'm guessing that SP1a installed OK.

When I go to start > all programs > Windows update, the update starts OK but after a few moments, I get an error message on the Microsoft Update Server does not.

    * Question 1: *-anyone have any ideas what I should try next?

    * Question 2: * fact Toshiba have nowhere where I can download a more current version of XP - SP2 or SP3 say - so that I can eventuially happen to SP3 without SP1?

    Any thoughts are welcome!

    > Question 1: someone has any good ideas what I should try next?

Win XP SP1 is part of SP2. So, you can download the SP2 package from Microsoft or any other Windows pages page just google
So after installing SP2, you can follow with SP3.

Before you install SP3, you will need to install SP2 first

    > Question 2: Toshiba has nowhere where I can download a more current version of XP - SP2 or SP3 say - so that I can eventuially happen to SP3 without SP1?

On the pages of Toshiba, you can download only the drivers and Toshiba tools
Windows Service Packs are Microsoft products, and you should check the Microsoft pages for this.

  • Satellite 2450-210: how to restore factory settings?

I have a satellite 2450-210 I want to restore settings (wipe hd etc.) for my daughter to use.

Can someone give me details on how to do it

    thanx

Do you have a recovery CD?
This disc is necessary if you want to restore the laptop back to factory settings.

If you n t have this disc then you will need to use a clean Microsoft Windows CD (Win XP would be the best) for the installation of the OS.

Toshiba drivers can be downloaded from the European driver Toshiba page
Because this device is an oldie, the drivers have been moved to the archives (in the product type click on archive).

  • Satellite 2450-201: how to increase the video memory from 32 to 64 MB?

Can anyone help? I looked in the Bios and the advanced settings screen, and found nothing to increase the size of the video memory.
Any other way to find on my Satellite 2450-201

    Hello

As far as I know that the unit has been delivered with the NVidia GeForce4 420Go 32 MB graphics card. This isn't a memory sheared graphics card.
The card supports the own memory and not a function of memory sheared.
In this case, you cannot change the value of memory.

  • How to replace RAM on Satellite 2450?

I own a Satellite 2450-201 and want to upgrade the Ram. The only problem is to know how to access.

    Anyone know?

    Hello

You won't find the memory locations at the bottom of the unit. As far as I know there are only places to drive HARD, battery and slim select bay.
However, this computer has 2 sticks of memory under the keyboard.

    Please follow these steps:
    1. turn off the power to the computer
    2. remove the power adapter
    3. remove the battery
    4. open the screen and remove the small cover at the top of the keyboard
    5. you will find 3 screws. Remove it
    6. carefully remove the keyboard (please don t forget the flat cable)
    7. raise the insulating sheet covering the module memory to appear the module.

Well, it's not very difficult to upgrde the memory and the entire statement, you will find in the user manual that must be installed on your laptop. Chapter 8

  • Pouvez Satellite 2450-114 read SDHC with the latest drivers?

    Hello
Do you know if the Satellite 2450-114 windows XP home supports playback of the SDHC with the latest drivers and the maximum capacity supported?

    Thank you

    Yann

    Hello

Satellite 2450-114 is a former, and in my opinion, it would not support the SDHC card using even the latest drivers why?
Because the card holder is not in the software/driver, but this is a simple physical limitation (card reader)

So I suggest to use an external USB card reader these drives are cheap and easy to use

  • 2 GB of memory on Satellite 2450 S-103?

    Hello everyone: o).

    I have a Satellite 2450 S103.
Still in the works, but I want to upgrade a little more.

On the technical specifications, it is written that the computer can be upgraded to 1 GB.

But I saw on some site that I can find available in 256 MB, 512 MB DDR PC2100 memory or - and this is the point - 1 GB.
Don't you think that the memory Kingston 1 GB DDR PC 2100 is compatible and can be used in this computer?

I have two slot memory he'll give me a memory of 2 GB, which will be enough for what I want to do with this computer until I can afford a new.
    (the Satellite U500 - 11 d is my objective; o)

I can get around the maximum capacity of 1 GB of the 2450 by flashing the Bios or other ways?

    Thks for your help.

    Eric.

    Have a look here:
    http://www.orcalogic.co.UK/ASP/ProdType.asp?ProdType=7392&ft=m&St=3

You can upgrade the laptop for max 1 GB RAM!

  • Satellite 2450-201: USB 1.1 instead of 2.0 controller

I formatted the hard drive on my Satellite 2450-201 and loaded Windows XP SP2. I loaded all the drivers from the disk utilities and everything works well except the USB ports work only in 1.1 instead of 2. There is a yellow exclamation point in device on USB controller Manager. I tried a Toshiba download driver but there is nothing available.
Can someone suggest a soloution to this problem.

    John

    Hi John

As far as I know that there is no driver for USB controller. When you install the chipset driver all USB ports should be recognized correctly. Exclamation mark in Device Manager is an indication that the device is not configured correctly. Try to remove the controller and reboot the device. After this check again in Device Manager.

Some external device is connected to the unit by USB ports?

  • Satellite 2450 - PXE error after upgrade of the 40 GB HARD drive

I have a Satellite 2450 and have just replaced my 30 GB drive with a 40 GB drive and trying to use the recovery disk, I get the error PXE.

I understand that I need to change the boot order of LAN, but when I have the power by pressing F12 it lets me select the CD/DVD drive, and then gives me the same error.

Any help is received with gratitude.

    Hello

It seems that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disc, and therefore the BIOS passes to LAN and try to boot from LAN.
In this case you will receive the error check cable PXE.

Did you check if you can use another bootable disk?
I mean you can try to install Windows using the Win XP disk
Maybe booting from another disc would work
