Files, database and Raid 11 G

Our new 11g server is Windows 2003 32-bit with disks configured in Raid 1 and Raid 5. Here is how it is prepared.

First group of disks Raid 1 OS and Oracle Home is 144 GB in size.

Second disk Raid 1 group is 276 GB in size. Currently empty.

Third disk Raid 5 group is 836 GB. Currently empty.

What I'm trying to understand, is where should I put my files of database for better performance. My plan is to put the Temp tablespace in the first group of Raid 1 with the OS and the Oracle home. Then I'll put the Redo Logs and Rollback Segments on the second Raid 1 group. I'll put the other files in the database on the Raid 5 group with archive logs. Also, I intend to put a control file on each of the Raid groups to space out them.

All reading I did on this forum and others, this seems like the best solution, but before I create the database, I wanted to make sure. I was unclear if I should move away from the OS and Oracle Home Temp tablespace, move the archive logs to a Raid 1 group or move my tablespace Index data files on the Raid 5 group.

Visual layout

RAID 1 = OS, Oracle Home and tablespace Temp (control file)

RAID 1 = Redo logs and Rollback (control file)

RAID 5 = data files and archive logs (control file)

Should I do something different? Thanks for any advice.

With today's technology, it's not really important :-) Unless you have special needs when your database is heavily loaded and you need less than a second time to answer, you can put everything on RAID5. Our database contains all files and executables on RAID5 (Oracle Applications ERP database). PlL see ML Doc 30286.1 (IO Tuning with the different RAID Configurations) for more details.

  • A target table is in charge of two different sources but the same columns, but a source is one database and another in a flat file.

    We all hope you are doing well.

    I have a business problem to implement in ODI 11 G. It's here. I'm trying to load a target table from two sources that have the same column names. But a source is to the file format and the other is in the Oracle database.

    That's what I think I'll create two mappings in the same interface by using the Union between the sources. But I don't know how the interface would connect to different logical architecture to connect to two different sources.

    Thank you

    SM

    You are on the right track, all in a single interface. Follow these steps

    (1) pull model of your data in the designer of the source file and your table model target to the target pane.

    (2) all relevant columns map

    (3) in the source designer to create a new dataset and choose as the UNION join type (this will create a separate tab in the source designer pane)

    (4) select the new dataset tab in the source designer pane and pull your source oracle table data model in the designer of the source. All columns that are relevant to the target card

    (5) make sure that your staging location is set to a relational technology i.e. in this case the target would be an ideal candidate because it is where the ODI will organize the data from source two files and oracle and perform the UNION before loading to the target

  • Restore the database only have files DBF and CTL [Windows] [11.2.0]

    Hi all

    Got a little a situation here. A development database (11.2.0).) on a Server Windows 2008 sank yesterday.

    Something went horribly wrong with the hardware, so we can't start the machine.

    I removed the hard drive and attached it to another windows machine. I got lucky and can get all the files on the disk.

    Is there a way I can recover this database? I read some where people say you can just re - create a new database and then replace the DBF files.

    Judge that worked pretty good, control files were attached. But when I tried to connect with any user, I got this beauty of an error:

    ORA-12432: LBAC error: zllessesinit:OCIStmtExecute (Yes it's English :-)).

    Anyone have some advice on this? Should not be a solution for the above error. I just want to get current DB running on a virtual computer so that I can expdp data out of it.

    You might have figured out, the original database has not been closed correctly, since the entire machine just crashed. If I can't get back it, this isn't a problem.

    I'm quite new to the Oracle DBA part, so sorry if this is a silly question.

    So unclear and more information needed, pull! ;-)

    I found the solution to my problem:

    It is possible to simply re-create the database, stop it and and replace the DBF files in the new instance.

    However, I didn't know that the old database is a 32-bit version. The news is a 64-bit.

    I re installed a 32-bit host on the new machine, and that did the trick.

    Hope this helps other people with the same problem.

  • RMAN duplicate for standby the active database and the missing data files

    We have a car of 2 node ASM 11 GR 2 and 11.1 of database and a standby with ASM also. Our database is relatively low (300 GB)

    and in one recent event the day before was such a departure from the primary that we decided to "repopulate" the data using duplicate RMAN.

    I deleted the data files of the previous day and followed the Oracle documentation to duplicate a database. In the waiting

    I created a static listener and a pfile containing only the essential information (db_unique_name). I started the day before with nomount using the 'empty' pfile.

    I run RMAN, connected to the target and ancillary catalogues and run this command:

    run {
    allocate channel prmy1 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy2 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy3 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy4 type disk;
    allocate channel prmy5 type disk;
    allocate auxiliary channel stby1 type disk;
    duplicate target database for standby from active database nofilenamecheck;
    }

    RMAN duplication completed without errors, so I started the rescue database and got

    an error saying that datafile XXX is missing. I checked XXX datafile at the primary level

    and it is in a DISCONNECTED state. In the standby database the same data file is in the online state.

    So I think the problem is that during the duplication, RMAN (as documentation States) does not work

    Copy the files of data in offline mode, but the standby control file seem to think that these data files

    are online and should be present.

    Can someone please help me solve this problem? From my understanding, I could just copy the missing persons

    data files (there are many however) and in the standby go offline, but I don't think it's

    the right solution, edit this file for control of the standby? I would add another option

    in the RMAN script?

    Take the data file in offline mode on the site of the previous day.

    I don't think that two COPIES try to manage separately offline files.

  • A SCN for the entire database and the different SNA for the data files?

    DB Version: 11 g

    I always thought that there is a unique SCN for the database as a whole.
    A quote from the link below as
    When a control point is completed, Oracle stores the RCS individually in the control for each data file file
    http://www.dbapool.com/articles/1029200701.html

    What does that mean? There is a SNA for the entire database, and there are individual SCN for each data files?

    Well, unfortunately, the article says more bad than good things. Or if I can't call them wrong, they are rather confusing and rather than clear things for the reader, its making them appear to look more confused.

    First things, YVERT is used for read consistency (CR) mechanism and the backbone of the notion of Multiversioning. The control point is the mechanism to help that recovery is decided. Contrary to what said article, not any kind of checkpoints update both the data file and the control file, and also, there is not a type of them as well. In addition, the article says that the LAST_CHECKPOOINT is set to NULL, while its actually set to the infinity since it is not possible to detect the moment when the database is opened, that the last issue of control over the file would be. In the case of complete control point, this number is saved and is also associated with the toa Controlfile own database leader at the next startup. If this is not the case, there is an inconsistency in the stop_checkpoint of the data file and the stop_checkpoint reocrded in the control file, leading to a recovery of the instance.

    There are several types of control points. Similarly, there are several types of SNA as well. Without going into the details of these, IMO, the article simply means that when the control point write over a file passes, oracle updates the file checkpoint on it and this is recorded in the Controlifle. as well.

Is there a shortcup method or software that will take the files double and triple and remove them as a bundle? I'll always have more than one file that I have MP3 as a format rip and burning and synchronization. Help me please you solid advice that a midget computer could understand, if you please. Thbis must be costing me disk space when each file is on another extension. If I make a playlist of songs of the library there are also playlist fall into another extension, thhus I have several exrteniion for the same song. I'm spoiled with knowledge on how to navigate in the multimedia player made for so many years, but I'm about to try another player

    Hello

    Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community!

    I understand that the songs are duplicated in Windows media player 11. I will try to help you with this.

    (1) did you make any changes before the show?

    You can rebuild the Media Player library which should deal with the issue.

    Method 1: Delete the database of Media Player and look for the question.

    a. Click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player and then click OK.

    b. Select all files in the folder and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    Note you don't have to remove the folders that are in this folder.

    c. restart Windows Media Player.

    Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Method 2: If this does not resolve the problem, disable the Windows Media Player database cache files. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. exit Windows Media Player.

    b. Click Start, run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft and then click OK.

    c. Select the Media Player folder, and then click on Delete on the file menu.

    d. restart Windows Media Player.

    Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

    Please let me know the status of the issue. I will be happy to provide you with the additional options that you can use to get the problem resolved in Microsoft Windows.

  • Where should you install Oracle database and grid Infrastructure in order to comply with OFA?

    I downloaded two files compressed to the Oracle database installation, and both zipped install files for the grid Infrastructure.  The book I'm following for installation is said to use a directory of the database and a directory for the grid Infrastructure, but it does not explain where they should be located in OFA.  Probably they should both close up somewhere in the same Base of Oracle (since all Oracle related on a single file system should go in the same basis, according to my understanding), but it is not clear where they need to be installed over the other.  For example, the grid Infrastructure is a separate product that gets its own Oracle Home?  Anyone can shed some light on this process?

    Also, does it matter where the zipped files are uncompressed?  For example, use one of these files after the installation process, or OFA only cares location after installation?

    Yes, they go in separate oracle_home.  This should be explained in the respective Setup Guide.  This will be a CAR or a standalone ASM?  I have

    It does not matter where you unzip the installation files.  They are only used for the installation.

  • When updating the password file database

    In our infrastructure, we have several databases (all 11 GR 2 on Linux) who have access to the same password file.

    If the password of a user stored in the password file is changed in a database, this user password is changed in all databases that use this password file.

    If I query the view of sys.user$, I can see when a user has changed, but only for this database and need to check each database to see if the password has been changed for this database. Is it possible to see which update this file to shared password without connecting to each individual database database?

    Thank you!

    Hi Garrett.

    You have active audit? Also, if you have defined AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS to true, you should have some information placed in the $ aud. As Joel Suggested, check the timestamp of the change in the password file.

    I think that if you enabled audit_sys_operations, you would also have records written to audit trail operating systems $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/audit.

    On another note, according to the literature and my test, if the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE = SHARED, then you could not change the password for the SYS or other users with SYSDBA privilege.

  • What is the difference between the file index and swap file

    What is the difference between the .pag and .ind files?

    I know that the file contains data real means-data blocks and cells and the index file contains the pointer to the block of data that is available in the paging file.

    but is there another difference? What about size?

    In my opinion, pagefile size is always greater than the index file. It is Scripture?
    If the size of the Index file is larger than the pagefile so that it happened? If the size of the index file is larger that the pagefile is then write?

    If I deleted the page file, then it is assigned to the index file?
    or
    If I deleted some data block of the pagefile, then how is affects the index file?

    Published by: 949936 on August 27, 2012 06:32

    Are these test questions? Well, in the hope that in fact 949936 instead has a strong sense of the investigation, here goes:

    In my opinion, pagefile size is always greater than the index file. It is Scripture?
    If the size of the Index file is larger than the pagefile so that it happened? If the size of the index file is larger that the pagefile is then write?

    ^ ^ ^ Generally the. IND index, or the files are smaller than the. PAG page file (s). However, there is a minimum eight megabytes index file size. If clearly on a BSO your database and send a single number (which equals one block), you will have a. IND, quite a bit larger than the. PAG.

    For example, I have cleared out the good old Sample.Basic and then sent the number "5" in the "New York"-> "Cola"-> "sales"-> "Jan"-> "real." This resulted in a. The IND of 8 216 576 bytes, and a file size. PAG 149 bytes file size.

    If I deleted the page file, then it is assigned to the index file?

    ^ ^ ^ Are you sure this isn't some kind of certification exam? Do you mean that you went down to the BONE and deleted the file? Irretrievably corrupted, the database is what will happen. If you want to clear data, I guess it depends on how you do it. Send to a #Missing 5 has increased the size of the. PAG 149 to 229 bytes file. My guess is that doing so forced the overhead on Essbase. There is no impact on the. File of the IND in this context.

    If I deleted some data block of the pagefile, then how is affects the index file?

    ^ ^ ^ If you delete data into Essbase (whether through the above method which clears completely a block or CLEARDATA command) and then force a restructuring by MaxL or EAS, if the number of blocks have been reduced enough to cross this limit of eight megabytes, you should see the. IND file size down. I see usually do this all the time with backup processes every night that have a component of restructuring for them.

    I hope that answers your questions. You can watch the SER60 that there is a fairly comprehensive review of storage BSO which are.

    Paid ESX Server.) They generally work very well for us. The only area of

    Because we do not have the ESX Server paid, I can't

    use vMotion or VirtualCenter to transfer virtual machines from one location
