Files (hiding...) I should delete?

Hello

I thought attribute on the system Finder and discovered, that there are many many many files, which I don't do, or have weird names, like:

System/library /...

I understand not all folders in the library, and I have to remove them? I have just 6 GB on my Mac Book Air left. Can you explain to me?

Good day

Tlumination

Absolutely never delete anything if you don't know what it is for. OS X is based on a version of BSD Unix. This type of folder structure is typical for Unix system. The system folder is just what it says; Items for the operating system work. Nothing else belongs to it. The root folder of the library also contains many elements of the system, but can also contain application files and articles for apps install so that they are available for all user accounts (example, Photoshop works for all users).

If all the space that you left is 6 GB, you need to get rid of some large items. Video files in particular take a lot of space. Off copy them on an external drive and then delete them from your MacBook Air.

  • How do I find my personal folders for duplicate files so I can delete them?

Over the years, I have tramsfered files work on my home computer.  I know there are several doublonnait the folders and files that I should be able to remove.  I'm looking for an easy way to do so without bringing each individual foler/files to the top and mannualy their review.  Please notify. E-mail address is removed from the privacy *.

Be careful when you remove the duplicate files.  Some files are duplicated INTENTIONALLY in Windows Vista a lot unlike earlier versions of Windows (including your personal data) using things called junction points: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb968829 (VS.85) .aspx.  If you delete these files duplicated, some of your programs will stop working (and some of your data will be lost and other files will refuse to open).  The winsxs folder keeps track of system duplicate files and the different versions of the files in the system and if you delete these files, it will mess up the connections and could cause programs to stop working or system crash.

I mean, it's be very careful that you delete TRUE duplicate files from your located in C:\Users\\Documents or... \Music or ...\Pictures or... \Videos.  Do NOT delete anything in the Documents and settings folder (stay away from this junction point).  Do not delete the system twice in different folders files because they may be needed for the work programmes which are looking for files in a specific location.  Also remember that downloaded music you paid for requires a key (which has been put in the registry when you bought the song) and if you have two copies to ensure that you do not delete the one for which the key applies (or save it on another machine or give it a slightly different name, unless you are sure you want to delete it).

These programs will look for exact replica - no drafts of a final copy that you is no longer necessary (it won't find them because they are of different sizes, different dates and different names).  Those who will have to be done manually and I guess that's the vast majority of "duplicates" you have on your system (except if you have done some copy and paste files into different folders, until you've lost track of how many copies you did and where they were all - then programs will help.

    Good luck and I hope this helps. Lorien - a - MCSE/MCSA/network + / A +.

  • How can I access my computer in order to remove downloaded files that has not deleted using the control panel and the usual functions to delete?

I recently received from remote assistance installed a new anti-virus program. During using the remote technician, I he observed several open windows because it deleted the files that were left by previous anti-virus programs on my computer.  These files prevent the download of the new program.  As I watched him navigate through my programs and files, I noticed that there are a lot of game files that have been deleted by using the functions of the control panel and uninstalling still in my computer.  The technician of 3-4 programs installed on my computer while he removed residual files of the antivirus and promptly removed from these programs when it was correctly installed my new anti-virus program.  I would really like to know how to access files or records what he did and then delete the game files that I thought were removed.  I downloaded at least 100 trial offers for sets of objects hidden over the years and you don't want no trace with my memory of the computer.  No help available out there?

  • I keep getting these messages that do not allow to use a file. What should I change to have privileges for all functions?

The second file is not cooperating and was not deleted.

"Not cooperating" can mean many different things. A real verbatim error message would be more useful. In the case of locked files, it is often possible to remove safe mode.

I have a lot of old e-mail files I try to delete, but they remain in the file from the Recycle Bin of 2009. How can I get rid of them?

If you have an IMAP account, go to Mail/preferences/accounts/box mailbox behaviors and make sure that the store deleted messages on the server is not checked. If this is the case, uncheck the box and see if you can remove the trash.

If that is not working, go to Mail/trash, select an e-mail message and then control - click/Delete. Does it work?

  • Unable to file to rename or delete files

I can't the files to rename or delete files in the pictures folder.

Property sheets I have all the rights (I am administrator).  When I try to delete, it apparently works and things is in the trash.  Even after the deletion of the Recycle Bin, a few hours later the folders and files are back again.  Rename simply translates into a duplicate folder.

I now have about 40 GB of duplicate stuff that I can't get rid of.  I am a serious amateur photographer and this problem really begins to pain - by using the internal drive at a rapid pace;  the close also backup drives.

I think the issue may have something to do with copying a 'Pictures' folder from a USB on the hot folder on the hard disk.  This USB key is now offline and offsite as a backup

Alaa (WhizKid) and with your help, the problem is resolved.  Arrived to think of my comment above and had the Epiphany.  Now I feel really stupid, happy, but stupid.  Problem was that SecondCopy (one of my backup programs that runs automatically) due to an action that synchronized the folder with a backup disk every three hours.  Removed action and the problem at the same time.

    Thanks again.

  • Need to protect files on CD from deletion

Sorry, I wasn't sure which forum was the best for that matter.  None seemed really quite agree.

I know that the CD - R and DVD-R are not reusable, but until recently, I thought also that the content on them cannot be deleted.  I just found out Friday that even if I closed the session I can 'format' (clear) and delete the files from these disks, it is simply that used space not then become reusable as it does on a disc - RW.

Is it possible to prevent completely erasing and deletion on a r disc?

The first time you insert a disc, you will get a window called "burn a disc" with the title "prepare this blank disc. Click on "Show formatting options V" and choose "mastered". This will mean that you can only burn files ONCE and never delete them.
    I hope this helps.

  • Is there a way to restore a SINGLE FILE in a folder deleted from the Recycle Bin?

Suppose that you remove all the contents of a folder that contains the files and subfolders. If you open the Recycle Bin, you can see a list of deleted files and subfolders, but there is no way to see the files in the subfolders. So, if you want to restore ONLY a single file in a subfolder of the deleted, it seems there is no way to do it. You can only restore the entire sub.folder, which is not necessarily what you want, especially if you filled out the application parent with other files and subfolders after the deletion.

Is there a way to restore a SINGLE FILE in a folder deleted from the Recycle Bin?

Another method would be to drag the folder to the Recycle Bin on your desktop. Open it and recover the files required - re - delete the folder.

@ Palcouk... you can actually retrieve files deleted, even when they are home to recycle the locker to restore a previous version of the folder parent; These come available restore points so not always guaranteed, but he made the most of the time if action is taken quickly enough. :) Ric

  • I get an "access denied" message when you try to access my restored files. What should I do?

Some users have received an "access denied" message when you try to access their files restored once a recovery has been performed.  This can occur using Windows backup or backup HP (HP Recovery Manager).  They can see the files and folders, but they can do something with them, as the security check to fail.

This occurs because the permissions from the previous installation are also saved with the files and it is a failure on the new system because the files have not been created on this particular installation of Windows.

However, there is a way to solve this error.  Users can adapt the files and this should resolve the access denied"" message.

Here is a guide which explains how to do this.

I hope this helps with this particular issue.
