• Need help with the disks 'unreadable' configuring software raid after the death of the startup disk and system restored.

  I'm looking for some advice on how to restore a windows xp installation software raid 5 that was running on my XP system. I had a problem when the startup disk has failed, but I was able to backup the system before it can. I replaced the drive and restored the system and everything came, but I was not smart to do this and accidently left the readers connected when restoring raid. I don't know if windows has done something when I tried to install XP on the new drive, or maybe something else has happened when I restored the system from the backup, but my raid drives can not be used. There was a moment in the restaurant business I saw a message on the MBR, but I thought that was just for the drive being restored. I didn't have a single player who held any information on the other disks in the system, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

  When the system boots the windows logo screen takes 10-20 minutes before you get on the desktop. Windows Disk Manager takes 20-30 minutes to fill the list of drives and status on the disks three raid is 'dynamic' and 'unreadable' is not reassuring. I suspect it's a problem MBR or partition table that must be corrected before trying to reactive the raid, but this is just speculation.

  The raid drives are on a promise ide/scsi disk and make it appear to start correctly with names and sizes. After that I get nothing. I do not have another scsi controller (or), but I thought I'd try active @ partition recovery to see if she can find information on the disks.

  I hope someone has some experience with recovery like this, because this is a first for me. I thought I was pretty sure running a raid-5, but wouldn't you know, the tech gods have found a way to crush my plans...

• Scratch / startup disk is full?

  PS always tells me that my startup disk is full or my drive to work is complete. I have two ext HD, one for TM and other media. There is no music, photos or music on my internal hard drive. I checked my memory using Omnidisksweeper and it says I have 3 GB of data in my file drag? What I read on the messageboards I don't think clear the drag performs a righteous Act? Nervous about what whether the erasure. I read that I could make scripts using the Terminal app? But I need some clarification first, don't know if it will do something? Should I still point zero PS to my other post HD?

  Once you got this message, have you checked to see how much space was left on the disk of your work?

  What was the specific message?  The operating system can also give you warnings on the diskette of starting being full (and it means that it - MacOS blocks easily when the startup disk is full)

  And, once again, * exactly * where were you doing?  Which tool? (is not a tool of "square")  What size paper?  What bit depth? How many layers?

  If you have used the size of file incorrect or wrong settings on something like the crop tool - it is easy to create huge documents that fill the disk to work without realizing it.

  You can uninstall iCloud for Windows completely if you do not use one of its features. If you do, you should let its services run. See what is iCloud for Windows?-Apple Support for more info on what it does.

  My iMac turns off 10 seconds after the start to the top. I tried repair disk running, to no avail. What is happening is because my boot drive is full, off the 500 GB I partitioned in mac, 493,63 GB is taken up. I bought a thunderbolt cable to access the TOC on my mac book, and I have access to my files now. The problem is that I can only copy files. Authorities say I read and write permissions. When I start my host computer, it says "you can still open or copy the files on the disk, but you cannot save changes to the files on the disc. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can. "I'm trying to copy all my files on this computer and remove what I don't want copies, then reinstall OSX on my iMac. The problem is that some files are native to all OSX, so it would prevent me from copying the files. For example, if I want to copy my applications folder, it stops to copy once it reached the app store, because it cannot copy that. It is a problem because when it comes to the library, there are small files in there that I don't know if I can copy, then it stops at the copy and I end up with half of my files and I don't know what I need and what I have.

  Everything you need to copy the disk, then start the iMac in recovery (command-R) mode. Wipe the drive and reinstall OS X from the recovery console.

  I went to the iStore to get a software update, and once this has been done, my boot on my MacBook drive now shows the name of the previous owner? For example: "Sarah." And my boot drive has been moved to 'deleted users '. Please see attached screenshots. All my images, etc. always are on my Mac. Does it matter if I am using the previous owners startup disk? Clued up too much on such things, so if anyone could give me some advice, it would be a great help! Thank you

  Don't know why your user folder has been deleted, but it sure sounds like the Mac is still signed to Apple ID from the previous owner and not yours.

  I have a 2009 imac that came with Snow Leopard. I've since updated my OS to Yosemite. Should I run the disc from my old snow leopard startup disk utilities or is it a bad idea?

  It is not a 'bad' idea, but it is always best to use the version of disk utility which is part of the OS version installed. Do this by starting the computer from the Recovery HD.

  Fix the hard disk and permissions

  HD recovery start

  Restart the computer and after the chime hold the Order et R keys until the Menu of the utility is displayed.

  Repair

  When the Utility Menu appears, select disk utility and click on the continue button. Disk utility charges and select layouts withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) entry of the list to one side.  Click the first aid tab, and then click the repair disk button. If disk utility reports any errors that have been corrected, then again run repair disc until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, click repair permissions . Wait for the process to finish, and then quit disk utility and re-enter the Utility Menu. Select restart from the Apple menu.

  I'm trying to install Windows on my iMac (late 2013, running 10.11.6) without success.  I created the ISO to a flash drive, but when I try to use the Assistant Boot camp, I am referred to the following screen:

  

  I did my best to study solutions. The cause, by apple support discussions, is that there is another partition of pre-empting (stop) the wizard boot camp partitioning the hard drive.  I studied the partitions on my HDD after unplugging all devices and found this:

  

  This shows the main partition: Macintosh HD, the bootcamp partition: BOOTCAMP; and 2 unknown partitions: "Apple HDD ST100DM003 Media" and the same * M004.  I was able to delete the first Apple ST100DM003 HARD disk partition and ran first aid on the fusion drive after that the second he would not remove.  Also, I can't delete the boot camp partition.  I keep getting the same message when I try to install windows on a partition of the fuser unit using Boot Camp Assistant - "Startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition".

  Any suggestions?

  A reader of merger should have underlying EFI, OSX, Recovery HD on each of the physical disks. If your previous Windows installation attempts have failed, the disks can leave in a State where BCA use/will not change them.

  I finally solved it. It seems that I had a not mounted partition which it has not been used. I removed it and it solved all the problems:

  . After some research, I found that it was the way forward to create a separate partition, and so I did another partition.

  I didn't know it would affect my Windows partition that I thought it was completely different.

  So now, when I start it up, there is no option to start with Windows. But when I boot the Mac and select Startup disk, it displays Boot Camp is still there, and all my files etc. are still there.

  I tried to create one separate partition (other than Bootcamp). After that its done and I started my computer, I found that the option to boot Windows (Bootcamp startup disk) has disappeared. But I still see boot camp Mac files. Any solution for this? Thank you.

  (I tried to find this solution on the discussion Forum, and I found: repair Boot Camp after having created the new partition, however, I'm not able to follow these instructions. any help would be appreciated)

• Bootcamp error: "the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition" and Windows recovery partitions

  I have Setup with Bootcamp Windows 8 and then upgrade to Windows 8.1, and then upgrade to Windows 10.

  When I want to restart the training camp that I got the error message: "the startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition.

  According to this page, it is because of Windows recovery partitions added during the 8 to 8.1 migration and 8.1 to 10.

  I check with diskutil and I found 2 partitions of Windows Recovery:

  I tried to delete the Windows Recovery 2 partitions with disk utility tools but the button "-" to remove them were leaving is disabled.

  Is it a good idea to remove these partitions? If yes how?

  2. you are trying to install a new copy of the W10 or remove the existing installation?

  3. do you have the W8 or installation/upgrade W8.1 had problems before the upgrade of the W10?

  I got a warning on startup disk is almost full.  I moved several things on the main drive, but I was wondering if the downloaded program "dropbox" it's on this drive takes up the entire room.  Can I move without problems, but always use it on my laptop?

• Installation of WIN98SE on Portege P3490 without sufficient startup disk

  I have a Portege P3490 with an external CD ROM drive. The CD-ROM drive is connected through a PCMCIA card / Cabel to the laptop. Unfortunately, I don't have any software for the laptop and the external CD ROM drive. Now, I would like to install WIN98SE, but the CD-ROM drive is not recognized by the WIN98 startup disk. Anyone have an idea how I can install WIN98SE with this external CD ROM drive? Is a special boot disk available?

  Hmmm on the Toshiba driver page I found a Recovery Boot Disk for Portege 3490.
  It is an exe file. Have you tried it?
  In addition, there is also a companion disk.

  The accompanying disk is capable of detecting your CD-ROM drive on the Toshiba computer during the boot process. If you need access to your CD-ROM drive, then remove the word "rem" out the following lines in the Autoexec. BAT and CONFIG. SYS on the accompanying disk.

  I have a mid 2011 13 "MacBook Pro ("MBP").

  It worked 10.6.8

  I use SuperDuper to backup bootable external hard drive to the top.

  I have the 10.6.8 cloned system and it is bootable from an external Lacie Rugged Triple HD, connected via Firewire.

  I installed 10.11.3 on the MBP and it works fine.

  I need to boot from the 10.6.8 backup to access some files and that worked fine.

  When this 10.6.8 HD is connected via Firewire to the MBP shows up in startup disk options while it is started from 10.11.3

  But, now I want to reboot of HD in MBP 10.11.3 can't do running.

  When the startup disk is open when running 10.6.8 from the external hard drive the internal drive in the MBP 10.11.3 running does not appear as an option to restart the system.

  Y at - there a trick to getting the HD 10.11.3 appears in the startup disk?

  If not, if I just stopped the MBP and then remove the external hard drive, the MBP starts its internal HD with 10.11.3, despite the fact that I am not able to select it from the boot disk before you stop? /

  This is because in SystemPreferences-> StartupDisk disc is not set how you want to start.

  To avoid this kind of situation when the two BONES are connected:

  Hold down the Alt (option) key during startup: it will open the "bootmenu": choose the OS disk to use.
