Find the replacement hard drive
My laptop is HP Pavilion g6 1004tx. For the past 18 months, it shows "drive SMART 301 error" and asked me to back up my data, what I have done.
Now, I want to replace the hard drive and install Windows 8 but it's hard to find the right disc for this.
My point of confusion are:
1. the laptop manual, it says: "supports the following 9.50 mm, 6.35 cm (2.50 in) SATA drives: 750 GB at 5400 RPM, 640 GB 5400 RPM" and so on... I'm not being able to find any disk in the dimension (ie. 9.50 mm * 6,35 cm).
2. may I go to hard drive to 500 GB (as I don't believe in hard disks now!) or there will be no problem if I insert a hard drive that is less than the original?
Help, please!
Hello:
The only problem you will encounter if you install a hard drive smaller than the original that came with your laptop, it's the possibility of very good recovery disks do not have to reinstall the operating system.
Most of the time recovery disks does not work on any drive smaller than the original-same 750 GB to 500 GB.
You just need a hard disk of 2.5 standard laptop ".

Cannot install Windows 8 on the replacement hard drive
I got the replacement from Dell hard drive which he said would come with Windows 8 and pre-installed drivers. Well, I installed the hard drive and he said no. OS can be found. I didn't have a chance to make my own backup discs, but Dell sent a CD Windows 8 recovery media with the laptop and now with the replacement hard drive.
When you try to install Windows 8 on the new hard drive, I get to the part where it tells me to choose a partition to install Windows 8 on and none of them will not let me. There are 5 to choose from and I don't know what to do to get past this. The largest partition either 5A about 934 GB of space left out of 1 TB, but as I said I can't choose it or one of the other ones for the installation.
You just have to click on next, in any case, despite the message? Otherwise:
Start on the DVD of Windows 8, instead of install now, click repair your computer, Advanced Options, invites ... when it opens, type the following:
DiskPart
Select disk 0
cleanThen, try to install.
The above will remove all the data partition and disk, allowing you to do a clean install on an empty drive (these scores are not required, and Windows will create its own partitions (two) he needs to install and run).

Cannot find battery replaced hard drive
Stupidly removed and replaced then even stack. Now Intel matrix Manager does ' t find the hard drive. Have tried to change the boot sequence, boot with Dell Windows DVD, nothing works. Keeps looping back to Intel Matrix message and give options to use DVD installation, the last known configuration, mode without failure, etc, but ultimately goes back to Intel Matrix screen. Hard disc in system summary with F12.
You have a RAID configuration, for example two hard discs or pieces of sharing of all the files (RAID0) or a hard drive automatically makes a backup of everything on the other hard drive (RAID 1)?
Restart, and then press F2 to open the BIOS Setup. Look for the 0-to-4 SATA drives configuration options. Make sure SATA0 is set to ONE if you have RAID, or set to the RAID to SATA0 and SATA1, if you have a RAID configuration.
Be sure to save changes before exiting the Setup program.
You can find more information in the Manual.

Satellite L300D-10 q recovery DVD Can be used on the replacement hard drive?
Hello
I was wondering if the DVD Recovery allows to install Vista on a replacement hard drive? The original hard drive is too small at 160 GB contain all the files that I use the virtual operating system image. The disk hard 500 GB of replacement must be large enough for that.
The reason why I need to Vista, it's that the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu 8.04.1 and 8.10, cause the fan to run at full speed all the time which is very annoying. So for the moment I can only use Linux in a virtual machine.
I intend to stay with Toshiba, though, as my two latest portable Toshiba Satellite a PII and a PIII still work today, and both have had Linux on them.
Now, back to my story, I intend to remove the existing laptop, hard drive use DVD recovery to install to external USB 500 GB disk, replace the existing hard drive in starting up the laptop from the USB and copy my data overall. Before you reformat the old drive as external storage, I will replace in the laptop with 500 GB drive and the test so I can boot from the new drive.
Key question will be the change of equipment, i.e. the new hard disk of 500 GB prevent Vista to install or activate?
Thank you very much
Vista itself can handle huge HARD drive sizes, but the question is: the recovery disc will be happy with 500 GB? The laptop will recognize 500 GB?
I think it will work very well, because the new laptops are released with 320 HARD drive. 500 GB is not far.
Its a few trial and error unless anyone here has tested a disc 500 GB HARD themselves.

Key on the replacement hard drive?
I replaced the hard disk several months ago and restored from the product CD that comes with this HP. Now Trend Micro wants to update and tells me to update windows. When you install SP1 I get error C004F033. How can I get the key on the new drive? Why, the restoration does not have the key on the new hard drive?
More recent AV rely on a certain level of Service Pack of Windows to be present - if this isn't the case, they may be assuming that the bad things about the system and actually break BONES, or simply come to a grinding halt.
The problem lies in some of the changes in the OS functionality between version RTM and SP2, which are quite significant - and the VA have hang the system in a slghtly differently. do this on the old system sets off red flags with the Service of software license, because it looks like the system, as if something is falsification of critical files.
It's what makes appear the non-genuine notification, rather than anyting to do with the key itself.

Satellite L300 - how to reinstall Windows Vista on the replacement HARD drive
Hello
My HARD drive has stopped working on my PSLB9E. He started making whirring noises and wouldn't start. all tests show it does not. Now I guess I need a replacement for HARD drive and watched a TOSH MK2565GSX or other similar. Problem is I can't find my Windows key anywhere.
It is can get the key to Toshiba/Microsoft giving them all my contact information or do I have to buty a new HARD drive and install a copy newly purchased Windows on? If Yes, then I'll put W7 on I guess.
Thanks in advance for any help I receive!
SB
> Problem is that I can't find my Windows key anywhere.
The preinstalled Windows operating system and the image that is placed on the Toshiba recovery disc were already activated and therefore the serial key is not necessary.
If you don t have the recovery disc, so you can buy this drive here:
http://backupmedia.Toshiba.EU/landing.aspxIt s not expensive; 30 euros I guess.

Qosmio G25-AV513 - can't find the 2nd HARD drive
The G25 AV513, isn't supposed to have 2 drives, one with 120 GB and the second with 60 GB? I see only a drirve in "My Computer".
I erased my computer and re-installed Windows XP operating system since the original CD Toshiba I chose option 3 "Striping" of readers. I'm supposed to see the two readers in "workstation? I have a total of 180 GB of memory? According to 'My computer' I see the C: drive and its total capacity is only 111 GB.
I also tried to reinstall the operating system using two other options, option 1 using installation default Toshiba who said I can mirror to another date by using RAID, but I got about 45 GB of memory with this option, and it was the same for option 2, although about 45 GB.
Once again, showing only a drive in "My Computer".
> Isn't the G25 AV513 supposed to have 2 drives, one with 120 GB and the second with 60 GB?
This seems to be a series of Toshiba laptops we.
I searched a few details and found the info on the Toshiba page we:
http://www.CSD.Toshiba.comThere are two hard drives (2 x 60GB)
You can check this in disk management and you will find the available disks.I think you can see that a single (120 GB) HARD drive in my computer, because the two hard disks are merged because RAID settings in the BIOS!
Take a look in the user manual!

Install Vista on the replacement hard drive?
The hard drive in the venerable (but reliable) G60 my wife gave up. After five or six years, we are unable to find its recovery disks. The Microsoft Certificate of authenticity is also unreadable.
My wife bought a spare by a local retailer. How can I download a copy of Vista to burn it to a CD (or get media) and can HP be able to support the number of the original certificate if I give them the serial number? Who do I start?
Thanks in advance.
In fact, we found its recovery disks (surprisingly), is not a problem. I'm going to close this message.

Cannot install XP Pro on the replacement hard drive.
I had to replace the hard drive in my desktop pc and now when trying to install XP Pro on the new drive, Windows Installer States he is not hard drives are.
I suspect it's maybe because I couldn't install the HDD no operating system drivers. The hdrive installation instructions say to boot from the Windows installation CD. Then, when you are prompted for the SCSI or RAID driver to press F6 (which I did) then press S to specify additional devices (which I did). At that time there installing Windows asks me to insert the "floppy" third-party driver in drive A:. I have no floppy or the car drive. I tried to load the CD of drivers in two of my two cd/dvd drives, but it has never recognized the cd.
I contacted Seagate hdrive manufacturer and they said that my motherboard drivers need be updated so that windows would allow the hard disk drivers be installed from Cd.
They said either communicate with the provider of the motherboard and ask drivers to a floppy, then buy and install a floppy drive on my pc all them in order to get Windows Installer on this new hard drive. Another option was to buy a new operating system!
Hoping someone here knows a reasonable solution to this. My Win XP Pro version is 2002. I create a copy of it and integrated SP3 with it and tried to start one, but still, it does not recognize the hard drive. The hard disk appears in the BIOS.
Thank you!
Don

Need CD to install Vista laptop preinstalled after the replaced hard drive
I had to replace my hard drive of the laptop but when I bought my laptop inititally, he came with a vista installation disc. Can I get a disk of vista without having to buy a new license?
I'm also in Australia.
Hello
None
you don't have to buy another license
you already have this license for your laptop
Contact the manufacturer of the laptop computer and ask them to send you to vista recovery disks to reinstall the operating system back as it was when you bought it
they do it for a nominal cost of $
or borrow a microsoft dvd vista
Make sure that you borrow the correct 32-bit or 64-bit microsoft dvd to your computer
they contain all versions of vista
This is the product key that determines which version of vista is installed

Linux installer is unable to find the local hard drive
I try to install CentOS 5.2 (a derivative of Red Hat Linux) on VMWare Fusion 2.01. I can run the Installer (graphical mode) to the point where he asks me how I want to partition my hard drive. At this point, I can't continue as Setup can not find a disk hard - the box saying 'select the (s) to use for this installation' is empty. If I click NEXT, I get an error (obviously). Any help would be appreciated.
When you created the virtual machine, what type of operating system prompted you chose? CentOS 5.2, I would suggest RHEL5, since it is the guest of farm taken supported. The reason by selecting the correct prompt when creating virtual machine is important because it influences what virtual material is used, and some clients do not come with drivers for some hardware (and therefore will not recognize it).
