Finding FTDI Chip COM Port numbers

I have been seaching for an easy way to get the port numbers COM from FTDI chips namely trying to connect to a device or not. FTDI Chip has LabVIEW drivers on this page , but they use an ID (Handle) number to communicate with the devices. Here's how to for those who are interested...

Manual SEO FTDI Chip...

http://www.ftdichip.com/support/documents/ProgramGuides/D2XX_Programmer%27s_Guide%28FT_000071%29.PDF

All functions in the manual call "" FTD2XX. "." FTDI Chip D2XX driver DLL"which is installed with. A call not included in the LabVIEW drivers is the "FT_GetComPortNumber" function that uses a identification number (handle) for a COM port number

Attatched is the FTDI Chip drivers edited with two screws again:

  • Virtual Com ports never get reused after UN-installing of software that use

I have install and uninstall the bluetooth drivers (Microsoft, broadcom and bluesoliel) in order to obtain different devices to work. When I started this exercise, used by bluetooth comm ports were low numbers (com 4 and 5 for example). If I uninstall the bluetooth drivers, then reinstall the or some other driver, the com port numbers used become com 6 and com 7).  Old ports com can never get reused and there seems to be any place where I can find them (and I hope that free them from their State of limbo).

Now that I've got things nearby work properly, I get to com 25.

This also happens with the bluetooth drivers not as my GPS through a series of USB converter. or my palm for synchronization software.

That is to say the problem is not just with bluetooth. It's with any program that uses a serial port.

I'm afraid I might run out of com ports, and perhaps these unused com ports consume resources (are they built during startup?)     Hmmmm... Looks like I ran out of space... Al

    Hi again
Well, I made a variation on your theme
1 turned on or plugged in devices that could use a virtual serial port - 3 of them
com 26 2 with one of them, I have attributed it to 25, then 24, etc. all the way up to 3 comm
That unlocks (disabled the use in indication) for all of the unused ports.

reassigned the 2 remaining ports to com 4 and 5

  • identify by their physical port number com ports programmatically

I have a system with an NI PXI-8420/16 card.  From time to time a small problem in my PXI system occurs such as my RS-232 physical ports are assigned to different COM port numbers  So, I have to go to MAX and reassign my alias to realign my LabVIEW application with my port hardware.  Is there a way to stop these seeds from happenning?  OR is it possible to identify by program number of a physical port com?

The modem uses a virtual com port. It s not a real port.
I wonder why it usually happens after the installation of the new operating system, you must install drivers Toshiba together in the right order
Installing the chipset utility is important

The modem driver should do the work and you n t need to activate com ports
Please choose the right side of the page of the Toshiba driver modem driver after installing the OS correctly. I think that's the key

I know that if I see a modem device in Device Manager, I can do a right click on it, go to properties, then click the Modem tab for the port com for this modem device number. But how can I do deactivation in Labview? I hope that I can search by the name of modem which is known to me and then retrieve the com port number in labview code. I tried the Resource.vi find visa, but did not get something useful. Anyone has any experience on this?

  • Where can I find the ability to change the com port settings in Windows 7

Where can I find the ability to change the com port settings in Windows 7

Port, Device Manager, select comport, right click, properties, Port settings

  • I can't find com ports in Device Manager. Trying to interface with a counter digital multi via a RS232 connection.

The software supplied with the meter has enough summary documentation.  When I tried to open the software, a window pops up saying that the port com 1 cannot open. I used baud rate settings that the software manual recommends but no help. Then, I uninstalled the COM ports. Now they are gone and I don't know how to re - install.

UPDATE: I've read elsewhere that the BIOS should have the com port activated, so I went into the BIOS and of course it was off. I suspect that it is off all the time, because the software failed to connect to it when I first installed it. As soon as I have it set to com 1 everything works.

  • Cannot sync. -Com port in use error

Win7 64 bit, PalmDesk 6.6.6, IR USB dongle. Tungsten E

Has been able to synchronize the first two times with the new IR USB organization. I ended with triple calendar entries so finally was able to remove old items out of PalmDesk and after doing a hard reset on PDA, could clean the scheduling issues so I thought everything was OK.

Then tried another HotSync and kept getting an error on the PDA "Cannot start the HotSync operation because the port is currently in use by another application"

Spent 2-3 hours to get here and other sites for possible solutions. Found none so tried to Soft Reset and then reset hot but neither worked. Finally I did a Hard Reset.

Was able to do a HotSync.  It took 6:30, but it does not seem complete.  Note that my memory is only half full

Now, the real problem.  I wanted to see if I could do a HotSync and did not take hours to complete.  But still, I get the port in use message.

The message comes even if the PDA is not connected to the PC by IR isn't something in the PDA.  He was going to install dbFix, but since I can't synchronize I can't install it.

I note that after the Hard Reset did only 3 options under connections now, I have 6. There is an IR to a PC/handheld, but the details show that it uses really Cradel/cable. There is an infrared for GSM phone but I can not remove or change it. Also of IR to PC with a speed of 28.8 by default.

Solutions, ideas or even wild guess appreciated.

    WyreNut

Thanks for the reply, but you are not the first to suggest not correctly the problem was in the PC.

I have finally resolved and am posting the investigation and the resolution here in the hope that others can solve the problems of strange synchronization they could find out by doing a similar detailed investigation.

The error message not being able to sync because the com port has been used pop up would immediately after recording HotSync. I without having to be connected or even close to a PC to get this error message. I have confirmed that being in front of PC with IR, equipped of Vista 32 bit, so it wasn't a problem with Win 7 64 bit either as I had been able to synchronize PC Win 7 approximately 4 weeks earlier.

I had 4 chat sessions with Palm TREES, where they provided a number of suggestions essentially to tell me that the problem was Win 7 based or 64 - bit based or that I did a Hard Reset if fixed (none of which were correct).

I tried a number of sweet, hot and hard resets. The only time wherever I could sync was after doing a Hard Reset and synchronization takes then 3.5 HOURS to complete. I could never do a second Hot Sync that I always get the error message.

I finally discovered that the list of connections is changing and the individual setting for one of the original connections was changed when I did the sync.

After a Hard Reset, there are three connection options:

PC Via cable/home station, Modem Via station home/cable and IR for PC/handheld Via infrared

When I ran the Hot Sync more than two connections have been added to the list

IR for GSM and GSM BUT phone serial

The surprise that took a few moments to discover that the PC/handheld Via IR computer had its details changed to home/IR obviously cable station, I could use this connection to synchronize this is to create a custom connection which was the PC Via IR.

The dropdown under HotSync would present the old PC/Pocket PC Via IR, but it does not work because he didn't was more IR I would choose the custom, but he made the mistake of com Port conflict

The SOLUTION was to delete all backup and archiving files, install the PC off, do a Hard Reset of the PDA and then do a HotSync.

This time sync took only 5 minutes, the connection list has not been changed and the settings in detail for PC/handheld Via IR were not changed.

I don't know when the commands of GSM phone has been added to the list of options on the PDA, I never used the PDA as a phone. I'm not even sure who's App adding the GSM phone files. He could have been there for years I never had problems with synchronization with USB port and a XP machine. Even the first synchronization IR on Win7 64 bit machine worked so I thought everything was OK.

    Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

  • How to change the settings of the BT COM port with the Toshiba BT stack?

I have a Tecra S11 with Windows7 64 bit and I need to connect via Bluetooth to a remote the BT series device. I want to use the BT interface on board.

The BT remote appliance 38400,8, N-2 (stop to the most common place 1 2 bits). Problem: I find nowhere to change local BT Com port settings.

The physical port HW parameters can be changed. See:
HW COM1 with the port settings: http://i42.tinypic.com/epg5qr.jpg

But I don't get the same tab for the port of BT:
BT COM40 without port settings: http://i40.tinypic.com/24mcduw.jpg

Not even the BACK order 'mode' allows me to modify the ports of BT

Curiously, if I have the COM40 to a virtual machine on the same S11-tunnel (virtualbox), the machine virtual XP * can * change settings and communicate correctly with the remote device. How is that?

Can _How Yes, I change the port COM BT with the Toshiba BT stack settings? _ my version is 8.00.12 (T), which should be the most recent available. I also updated the BIOS.

    Thank you
    Paolo

    Additional details.

I tried to run the application as Administrator: still does not work.

I crossed Win registry with regedit and gave all permissions to all users: still does not work.

With the registry editor, I forced the port in 38400,8, N, 2 in 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE NT\CurrentVersion\Ports': still does not work.

Note that not only the application target complains, but also does not work the PuTTY used as a terminal series.

The Toshiba BT application see the remote device were undetermined, serial port, Dev.B. No provider.

I'm lost and stuck. Advice greatly appreciated.
