Fire Wire USB or HDMI conversion

I have a mini DV DCR - TRV cam / 900 (around 2002), who uses the fire wire 4 pin to transfer files.

My new Dell laptop has HDMI, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports. There is no expansion slot.

How can I transfer video from the former mini-dv on my hard drive? I would store the files in .avi format and be able to change the video.

If you have a PCMCIA or your laptop's ExpressCard slot, there are many available adapters that have a jack of FireWire/I.Link 4-pin - there are also USB to FireWire/I.Link cards - so shop around and you should be able to find what you need.

    Hello

The USB ports automatically provide the power. Each USB port provides usually 500mA.
But please note; the laptop must be running and the device external USB (iPod) must be recognized by the Windows operating system.

I put t know if the iPod is recognized by drunks, but I read many users have problems with the iPod on the Windows operating system installation. As far as I know that iTunes must be installed if you want to use the iPod.

  • HP Pavilion Elite m9040n Desktop and Fire Wire 1394

I have the above mentioned Office. It has a plugin from 1394 to the front of the case. The Pavilion comes with all the software to pull wire work? I backed up my hard drive on a Toshiba external drive with a USB cable, the other day and it took 6 hours. Is not fire wire suppost to transfer data faster than a USB cable? Are there special things I need to know when buying FireWire 1394.

I was looking on the internet the other day and they showed the son of fire with pins 4 and 6. Looking into the hole on my computer, it only looks like 3 terminals?

    Thank you

    Rick, welcome to the forum.

There is no necessary software for Firewire (IEEE 1394-a).  The driver is installed with the operating system.

Here is the page of the following motherboard for the computer.  It only shows that there is a Firewire (IEEE 1394) (# 11) port in return IO ports.

Here is an article that shows the comparison of speed vs. Firewire USB.  FireWire was developed by Apple.

  • Windows 8 does not recognize my Canon Vixia HV40 by fire wire. Help!

    Hey guys,.

I'm having a problem with trying to capture video from my Canon Vixia HV40 and do it on Adobe Premiere Pro CS6.

I think that the main problem is that my laptop (running Windows 8) does not even recognize my camera using a fire wire.

I've linked download these drivers and nothing works. Can someone help me please?

I use fire wire that turns a USB port, if that tells you anything.

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community forums.

Let me try and help you with the problem.

    1. you try connecting the camera for the first time on your computer?

    2. have you made sure the Firewire cable is working correctly?

    3. What is the status of the camera in Device Manager when you connect?

To open Device Manager, press the key Windows key + X and choose Device Manager.

In Device Manager, check if the camera is recognized.

If the camera is not recognized, you may need to check the issue by using a different firewire cable.

I also suggest you to run the hardware troubleshooter and check if that helps.

    1. Point to the upper right of the screen and then move the pointer of the mouse to the bottom and click on search.

    2. Enter Troubleshooting in the search box, type or click Troubleshooting, and then click hardware and sound.

    3. Click hardware and devicesand follow the instructions on the screen.

Let us know if it helps. If you have any other questions, we will be happy to help you.

  • Is fire Wire the only way to import video

and does make a difference in the quality of the resulting video?

    I have:

    Panasonic PV-GS500

    Window 7 64 bit

    Adobe Premiere Elements 10

Desktop Dell XPS 8300 (8 MB RAM)

I don't have a son of the late on the computer connection. I still managed to import my DV via USB (using various programs) and bought the PE10 due notice ("best editor"). I am able to import video, but the output quality is not as good as when I play just the DV on the computer. (I'm also struggling to learn the software - it's quite different than those I've used in the past (Roxio))

When I do a serarch for "fire wire" on support for windows, I get this message:

This version of Windows does not support using IEEE 1394 (FireWire, i.Link, or Lynx, also known under the name) for the Networking.

Does this mean that Windows 7 does not support IEEE 1394 at all?  (I realize that this is probably not a question specifically for Adobe, but I don't know where else to ask about importing video files using wire fire vs USB.)

It is important, because I want to be able to import the old videos and 8mm video from an older camcorder.

If Fire Wire is a MUST for importing video, I'll have to find a way (when it exists) to install a FireWire card and whether or not Windows 7 64 bit is supported.

Frustrating, since I bought this computer for video editing.  Any help/advice/commiseration will be greatly appreciated.

    Linda,

Unfortunately, you have filed for the subforum tips & tricks, which is essentially a repository for articles about how to do things in the meadow. Maybe our tireless MOD, Steve Grisetti, going to it on the main forum, where many people see.

As for IEEE-1394, you would NOT use it for networking. More modern MoBo with an IEEE-1394 controller chip, but almost any card of FW 400 add-on will have those too. At least XP, Windows included support FW 400.

Today, cards add-on begin at about US $8 and go up to around US $60. What you get, as the price climbs, will be more ports, separate controller chips, ideally a / port and then possibly other ports, say USB. I like the SIIG cards, but there are also many other good brands.

With regard to the Capture, which is the process of importing data on mini-DV cassettes, it must be done via FW 400 (a IEEE-1394), to pre. However, other programs may offer alternatives, and as long as there is a DV - AVI file, things should be fine. These DV - AVI files and then just is imported into a project of ger.

    Good luck

  • Using a usb to hdmi cable can I connect my TouchSmart 600 computer to my TV without damaging my PC?

Using a usb to hdmi cable can I connect my TouchSmart 600 computer to my TV without damaging my PC?

    Suzanne,

With the help of a video-to-USB device like the EVGA UV plus + 19 will not damage your computer or HDTV. The EVGA UV + 19 more is an active device and is not just a passive cable. To the best of my knowledge, there is no passive cable which will convert the USB ports in HDMI ports.

  • using a remote trigger cable usb or hdmi?

Any device that would activate a remote shutter release cable usb or hdmi?

    Thank you

    Tom

Canon lists not all accessories for the SX600 remote shutter release on their website or in the owner's manual. I've found other manufacturers one or the other. As a general rule, the higher end cameras are those with capabilities of remote shutter release, such as the series of G and the DSLR. I suggest to use the timer for the moment, and maybe someone can have a configuration that might work for you.

  • x220i Express card with Fire Wire 400 adapter

I would like to know if there is an Expresscard adapted for the x220i have a Fire Wire port.  I already bought one, but there is no slot in properly although it does not fit a portable older IBM that I have.  I need to download stuff with a video camera and do not want to buy the wrong thing again.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Hello

My understanding is that the X220i (like my X 220) has an ExpressCard54 slot, i.e., an ExpressCard slot, which is 54 mm wide.  The 54mm or 34mm wide ExpressCard should get into that, but old PCMCIA 16-bit or 32-bit CardBus cards will not, because they have different connectors.

OWC, rain computers, SIIG, Sonnet, StarTech and SYBA are FireWire ExpressCard adapters that should work fine with your X220i.

    Kind regards

  • S2340T better than USB (DisplayLink) HDMI?

I had my S2340T monitor for about nine months and have always had problems with it under Windows 7, 8 and 8.1.  Plug into a USB port and use the latest DisplayLink drivers causes artifacts on the screen while scrolling or moving the mouse on the screen.   I have two monitors.  Another one (a HP 2311 x) is connected to a DVI port on my card from Nvidia 260GTX.  There is no problem on this monitor. I wonder if I might have better luck by giving up USB and try to use the S2340T with HDMI.  When I tried, the monitor reports that there is no input signal.  But still, it seems that avoiding DisplayLink entirely is the way to go. All advice is appreciated.

After working with customer support Nvidia for about two weeks on this issue, here is the solution:

The DisplayLink (all versions) driver does not work with the Dell S2340T. You must use HDMI instead of USB. In Device Manager, uninstall the driver under USB DisplayLink graphics cards. You must contact your supplier of the graphics card of a program to check the stability of your graphics card.    I can strongly recommend Nvidia.  I use the GTX 260 card, and the stability test is here. Test your memory with memtest86 first. Finally, please monitor the temperature of your system, especially the CPU, with a tool of the manufacturer of the motherboard. You can't wait for the stability of the system unless your system temperature is within the plug. For reference, I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate, the motherboard is ASUS P8Z77-V LX, BIOS is 2204, processor is Intel i5-3550, 16 GB of DDR3 memory.

I wanted to first find a USB VGA Converter, but for some reason the converter, I bought seems not to register. I'm doing something wrong with the adapter? Or should I look for in a converter for HDMI port?

  • Impossible to find fire wire connection on my Dell w/Windows XP

I am trying to connect a digital on my desktop Windows XP Dell to edit camcorder videos. but I can't find a port of FireWire on my computer in order to connect the cable.  I have 6 USB ports, but I looked on my Dell configuration schema and no mention is made of an IEEE 1394 port, which is necessary for the connection.  USB ports do not recognize the signal from the camera.  It is likely that there is no such port on my computer?  I'm not too informed on the technical aspects, so I would like to know if there is a way to connect my camera to the computer.  Thanks in advance

Check the manual for your computer to see if it has a FireWire (IEEE 1394) port.

If not, you can buy an adapter that will add FireWire one or more ports.

I connect and transfer content from my computer to my Kindle all the time, but today when I plugged the Kindle my pc tells me that the device needed troubleshooting.  After you run the troubleshooter, I gives me this message:

First of all I'm sorry if someone asked, I was looking in the net and can't find anything specific to my goals.

Then. I'll tell you my story, maybe someone could help.

I'm building a new WHS... (basically WindowsServer 2003)... (familiar with the operating system got it on another box)  I want to create a double box, WHS / Windows 7 Ultimate edition. I heard the htpc running on a whs content is a bad idea, but I think that if I could emulate windows 7 and dedicate a disk to it would be great if I could handle all my stuff in one neat box.

VMware can help me get there? I would devote almost all of this power to windows 7 as WHS needs only as 512 MB of ram and a single core processor: P

    Thanks in advance

    Mobo sata 7, 2 IDE, 1 esata, 1 fire wire, usb 10
