• Why the latest Firefox won't play YouTube videos

  Everything worked fine until the latest version of Firefox, now I can't play YouTube videos. No problem with Chrome or IE. Firefox screwed up something with their latest version. Problem started on 09/03/15.

  Thanks Guigs. I followed your instructions and found out it was a 'acceleration hardware problem' that was the origin of the problem. I unchecked the box and YouTube videos play very well! Thank you for taking the time to help me.

  I can't play youtube videos or access games on facebook and some websites, I get only 1/2 the page. It seems that something is blocking my flash. It says that my flash is updated and also of shockwave. I have included 2 screenshots. I started in safe mode and nothing works. Works perfectly in google chrome. The problem is that firefox.   Since about a week ago firefox in my laptop can not read the youtube videos (only from youtube, videos from other sites and flash games work well), both on the site or embedded on another site. This shows only "an error has occurred. "Please try again later".

  My laptop is i5 with win7 64 bit and it has clean, no viruses or malware.

  I tried to use different computer, I used my old pc winxp with the old version of firefox (with the same configuration as the firefox I use in my laptop) and my ipad, they can play videos, but playback is stuttering which never happened before.
  Curiously, I've tried chrome (on the same laptop) and it works well, no stutters.
  This problem has something to do with the firefox updates, updates, flash, both, or something else?

  Please help me, I don't want to go back and forth between browsers just to see the video on youtube and I really want to change browser.

  It's very strange... it will also be a very long shot, but it is possible that due to the long url (& feature = relmfu) it worked. I highly doubt this is the case.

  I recommend not to clear your cookies, either of them or one of them to youtube.

  And you've probably already tried this, but playing the video on the various quality parameters may do something.

  And finally, have you tried to contact youtube/google on this subject, or restart your pc after making sure that all your stuff is up-to-date? (you have probably both)

  turn off hardware acceleration for firefox and adobe, search of viruses, updated my drivers and even memtest86. All to nothing not done, finally I decided to wait simply the most recent update to fix this bug. So the good news is it fixed the error nvwgf2um.dll but not msmpeg2vdec.dll.

  Hmm, I would not have thought the external components of video decoding have been at the heart of the problem. The wire 'blocked' in reports is not 'die' in a video decoding function. The most recent four crashed in "garbage collection" or the functions "cycle collector", dealing with the memory. Personally, I find these difficult to understand error reports.

  As a partial solution, you can use an extension that forces Flash on YouTube, as one of the following values:

  • https://addons.Mozilla.org/firefox/addon/YouTube-Flash-Player/
  • https://addons.Mozilla.org/firefox/addon/YouTube-Flash-video-player/

  Alternatively you can try to disable the MPEG decoding, but some sites are perhaps not able to "fall back" in a different format or Flash and will just error (for example, Twitter videos):

  (1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press enter/return. Click on the button promising to be careful.

  (2) in the search above the list box, type or paste media and make a pause so that the list is filtered

  (3) double-click the preference media.directshow.enabled to true to false

  (4) double click on the media.mediasource.mp4.enabled preference from true to false

  (5) double-click the preference media.mediasource.webm.enabled to false to true

  (6) double-click the preference media.windows - media - foundation.enabled from true to false

  The effect of everything that should be blocking MP4/h.264 decoding and place you in the latest format WebM (VP9) YouTube. You can check the result on this page, but that might not show up after leaving Firefox and start it again:

  It's not so convenient for other video sites, but I'm curious to know if it helps on YouTube or has the same problems.
