Firefox always opens all previous tabs when starting

I use Firefox for a long time, but recently it began to open each tab already open when I restart a session. I want only the tabs that I chose for my home page to open. I tried to go to options and selecting "Show a blank page" on startup, but even this is ignored and all previous tabs open on every new beginning. I rebooted the computer and restarted Firefox, but the problem remains.

Sorry mjuby, I have not seen that you had already tried the fix.

I suggest to turn off all of your modules and retest. Who help me?

Disable or remove modules

If this does not help, then please try a Reset of Firefox. This puts Firefox to its default settings. Your bookmarks, history etc will be saved, but you will need to reinstall your add-ons.

  • Firefox always opens all tabs that were open when last closed

Firefox, started out of the blue, to always show my tabs in the last session when it is started. I checked Firefox not listed in the Task Manager list after closing. So I tried the following:

-change the "Startup of Firefox" option to all three of the available choices
-Change the setting browser.startup.page 0 manually via "subject: config.
    -from Firefox in safe mode.

None of them changed the behavior. It nevertheless opens the tabs that were open last.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that affects the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once true value.

The user.js file appears only if you or another software created, therefore, normally, he wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor if you do not create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read whenever you launch Firefox and initializes the preferences to the value specified in this file, so set of preferences via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

  • When you press the button Home, Firefox instantly opens a new tab the start page wth, how can I stop the extra tab to open?

If I hit the Home button on one of them I have several tabs open, Firefox opens a new tab just next door with the Firefox start page. I searched in the options and am unable to find why this happens or how to stop it.

If this isn't a pinned (App) tab then the home page should open in this tab.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the start safe mode window or make changes.

You still have a problem with Firefox or you solve your problems?

These problems can be caused by putting the tabs as many home pages or possibly have a framework where the session restore kicks in.

You can check the setting of the homepage:

    • Tools > Options > general > startup: Homepage

Firefox supports several home pages separated by ' |' symbol (pipe).

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that affects the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once true value.

Also, make sure that Firefox is closing properly.

  • Why preferences ALWAYS open in a tab when I run Firefox - even when I've closed at the previous time. I do not want to open. Thank you.

One of the possible reasons are that if the preferences page has been added as a second 'Home tab' in which case it will be displayed in each new window (Cmd + n) and every time that you click the Home button.

To verify that you can use the preferences, the general Board, the section to start page, as described in this article: start-up, homepage, tabs and download settings.

In the area of the Home Page, look for a vertical bar separating two addresses of character. A simple example with short URLS:

    https://www.mozilla.org/|about:preferences

The bar certainly can be hard to spot with long URLs, but when you find it, delete everything to the right of the bar, then the bar itself (I suggest to remove the last bar so things don't accidentally get it together).

  • Firefox has suddenly started to open a new tab when I update an existing tab. How can I prevent this and get Firefox to not do that?

Without explanation Firefox now opens a new tab when I try to update an existing one. Worse still, I have to click on the new tab to get the Update window. This happened after I downloaded the last download nightly (64-bit). Hope someone out there can let me know how to solve this problem, because it will force me to another browser if I can't solve it.

I found a blog that hits suggested ' subject: config "in the address bar and then change"browser.link.open - external"3-to-1. It worked, but then some links do not open in a new window when they were supposed to. So I changed the value back to 3 and restarted the computer. Everything works now so don't know what the real problem was.

  • Why "open all in tabs" removes my all current browsing session?

I went into my favorites and choose "open all in tabs" for a particular folder. It opens all links in new tabs, all right - but it closed each tab, I had already opened and did not spare the session.

Really, it is massively frustrating and stressful when this happens, because I have to spend hours to obstinate by weeks of history, trying to reconstruct what I was already doing. WHY is this set up in this way? If it will delete all of my current tabs, shouldn't he must save them all as a session (preferred) or at least warn me that he will do?

This is not the standard behavior in firefox - default "open all in tabs" will open the bookmarks selected next to already open tabs. you have all of the installed extensions that would be likely to change this behavior?

not related to your question: you have an outdated version of the plugin flash installed on your system. for security reasons you may need to upgrade to the latest version. You can check your plugins to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck.

  • Firefox automatically opens the new tab, even when I don't want it. Need to stop this.

In the Blackboard, I need not to open a new tab in Firefox. Before the last update, it was fine, but now when I click on a new choice (that is, the notebook) it always opens a new tab. The administrator of my Bb says it's a browser problem. I can right click to open a new tab, but there is no choice not to open a new tab.

  • Why Firefox always opens with the last session tabs?

When I open firefox always opens with the last session tabs? How can I solve this problem?

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that affects the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once true value.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: 'Open with'; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can remove the user.js file if you do not create this file yourself.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them are .html, .ini and .js, .txt, so you can see only file name without the file extension.
You can see the type of actual file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

  • Is there a way to disable the function where firefox opens a new tab when you scroll a click in the header bar?

Is there a way to disable the function where firefox opens a new tab when you scroll a click in the header bar? This feature in conflict with my program of multiple monitors (display fusion) since this program allows you to change your current active window the monitor 1 monitor 2 and vice versa BY clicking the header of BAR SCROLLING (or whatever you call the highest part of your window). With firefox, I can't easily change my active window between monitors because instead, it opens a new tab.

If the window is maximized, you can then switch this pref to disable the display of the tabs in the title bar:

    • browser.tabs.drawInTitlebar = false

You can open the topic: config page via the address bar.
You can accept the warning and click on "I'll be careful" to continue.

I restarted my browser to install your latest update. I had 45 tablets, some of them opened the month and never closed. When your browser window open all my tabs have disappeared and it let me use "restore previous Session." Is it possible to recover these tabs? Its going to be almost impossible for me to restore even half of them and it's very frustrating. I use my chrome right now because I don't want to touch my firefox just in case.

Nevermind, I found the button to restore all windows were closed and he lifted my main window and a few others as well.
