Firefox automatically adds the port number in the address bar when it is not.

I work for an ISP company that implements regular routers for a customer locations. One of the things I need to change about it is to assign the management port 8080. For example, 192.168.0.1:8080. Once I try to install a new router that Firefox automatically assume I want to go to the same port 8080 and automatically concludes for me. Since the new router has not been configured with the 8080, yet I can't. So basically I would like to see if I can stop Firefox automatically enter this bit of information. It is very annoying and even more annoying that I have to use another browser to make changes since Firefox can not. I found a similar fix posted when Firefox will automatically ".www" but which did not fix my problem.

Disable the URL bar auto-complete feature. You can always select an address already used by the arrows down on the drop-down list of AutoComplete, but Firefox won't add characters to the URL as you type. Here's how:

(1) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

(2) in the search box that appears above the list, type or paste the filling and make a break while the list is filtered

(3) double-click the browser.urlbar.autoFill preference to change its value from true to false.

Looks like you have set browser.newtab.url to Subject: House which opens the default home page in each new tab. The simplest thing to do is to reset this preference so that instead of the new tab page:

    1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press ENTER.
    2. To ignore the warning, press the big button "I'll be careful, I promise!
    3. In the search box, paste browser.newtab.url
    4. In the search results, click browser.newtab.url , and then choose reset.

    Otherwise,.

    1. Custom installation tab.

    2. Open the modules (Ctrl + Shift + A Manager; Mac: Command + shift + A), then the Extensions category.
    3. Next to the new custom label, click on the Options button.
    4. The value of any page you want to open in each new tab (topic: newtab is the value default; about: home is the default home page) and make sure that "Focus in the URL bar" is not checked.
  • change the firefox icon in the address bar

I try to customize firefox to look like IE, don't ask why, believe me, I don't want. Anyway, I downloaded FoxE9, that customizes a bit look like ie9, which I think it's the closest I'm going to Firefox.

Only problem Im crossing is the firefox icon that is in the address bar on the left side, I think its called a favicon?

Is it possible to change or remove? It is also the portable version of firefox 26.

    https://addons.Mozilla.org/en-us/Firefox/addon/foxe9/

Not much in the way of images of example here.

If it has nothing to do the Web site you are viewing, then this isn't a favicon. Please provide a screenshot of what you are referring.

It is best to use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed a maximum file size of 1 MB.

Then use the button Browse... below the text message response area to download the screenshot.

  • Sites Web open automatically to the address bar.

When I choose a site to go to the drop down address bar menu, it does not automatically go to this site as it used to. I have to click on the little arrow to 'go to this address' or press ENTER.

As far as I'm aware, FF hasn't updated recently, and it just started doing this yesterday.

There are some extensions that have been known to cause this problem. Maybe an extension has been updated just before this problem for you.

  • How can I get Firefox to display the information bar when a pop-up is blocked

I clicked on "don't show this message when pop-ups are blocked" when a popup has been blocked. How can I get this message to reappear again when a pop-up is blocked?

I find generally pop ups boring, but sometimes they are needed to use some Web sites correctly. Now I can not get the information bar to return when a pop-up is blocked. How can I get that back?

    Operating system

    Windows XP

You can see a pop-up block icon in the right corner of the status bar if you have chosen to hide the information bar at the top.
You can click on this icon of pop - up block on the status bar and remove the check mark from «do not show an information message when pop-ups are blocked»

You can watch these prefs the topic: config page and reset them using the context menu:
    Status bar icon: browser.popups.showPopupBlocker
The InfoBar at the top: privacy.popups.showBrowserMessage

To open the topic: config page, type Subject: config in the address bar (address) and press the Enter key, as you type the url of a Web site to open a Web site.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access this page.

  • How to select all the text in the address bar when you open a new tab

I changed browser.newtab.url to a Web site with links, that I often use. Now, I have the problem that I don't always want to use one of these links. So when I start typing in the address bar text simply add the URL of my site. The problem would be solved, if the text in the address bar is activated every time when I opened a new tab (I could press each time crtl + of course, but I usually just type)

Is there something in the config, I can change or an Addon?

I had this same problem, but I was able to remedy this by installing this add-on:

    https://addons.Mozilla.org/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/

After the installation, remember to go to add-ons, Extensions; Click on the Options button; and select the development of space in the URL bar.

I just started using firefox (yesterday). I moved stuff navigation bar on the menu bar to make room for gameing toolbars, I want to add. Problem, the location bar covers, which is now part of the Wolf/moon picture that I would like to know. Can I set the length of the address bar not decide on his nose?

today is... I'm exploring firefox... well! can do most of what I need to.

    Hello Cassandra.

I'm not sure that I understand very well what is your problem, but have you tried to add the spaces of the view > toolbars > customize... screen?

I hope that makes sense and it helps you to solve the problem.

  • How to hide the address bar when windows 'popup' fullscreening?

Video player Sky TV has an implementation of bad full screen - you can make the player go true fullscreen, but it comes back when he loses focus, so I can't multitask on my two monitors.

The best solution I found is to use their 'pop-out' reader, which opens a new "popup" - style window (locked address bar, no search bar etc) and I can't then full screen window itself (not the player). This allows me to hide

    -the outline of the window
    -the title bar of window
    -Windows Start menu

and it remains enlarged when it loses focus.

However, this does not hide the window address bar. On a larger window of Firefox at the normal address this slides out of sight after a short period. locked style "popup" window is not.

On the offchance that treat differently the "pop-up" windows is a deliberate... Firefox security policy can I disable it?

    Well, this is embarrassing.

I went to try to settle the dom.disable_window_open_feature.location from true to false.

However, before doing so, I noticed that the address bar of the popup window was now floating as usual.

I'll keep an eye on it in case it stops again, but for chalk now it up to the stupidity of the user.

  • Why focus/cursor selects the address bar when you click in a new page?

This happens all the time, but most of the time... When I browse a site by clicking on the links, whenever a new page load the address bar is chosen to start typing. When I go to scroll down (using the down arrow/page keys) he'll scroll rather recent page URL in the address bar, instead of scrolling to the bottom of the page.
Looks like this behavior just started today...

To be clear, that's not something to do with the tabs, pages open in the same tab by clicking on the links at left will also affect the cursor to the address bar.

I don't think I'm in safe mode, I tried to reset firefox and this still happens. If this does not work as expected, can I disable it?

You open links in the same tab?

This also happens if you click the link to open the link in a new tab?

Have you checked for problems caused by plugins?

In the Firefox Safe mode, these changes are effective:

    • all extensions are disabled (subject: addons)
    • Default theme is used (no persona)
    • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
    • default toolbars is used (localstore file - safe.rdf)
    • JIT JavaScript compilers are disabled (subject: config page: javascript.options. * jit)
    • hardware acceleration is turned off (Options > Advanced Options > general)
    • plugins are not affected
    • preferences are not affected
  • How can I disable search suggestions in the address bar when I start typing?

Starting with the most recent version, by typing en tapant in the address bar suggests Google search in addition to suggestions of history terms. How can I change to the previous offer only my story mode?

In addition, this update seems to have removed the fill auto the address bar at the top of the suggestion page as I type. How can I return this feature as well?

    Thanks in advance.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).

    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.
  • new url appears in the address bar when you click on a link

There is a particular question, that I just noticed. Since upgrading to FF v4.0 RC1, it seems every time I click on a link in a Web page or in a google search (even open a bookmark link), when the new page opens, the url of the new page does not appear in the address bar. Instead, the url of the previous page still shows in the address bar.
