Firefox can open any Microsoft link - get «windows has stopped working error»

When I try to open a Microsoft Word or xls (not Powerpoint) file, I get the useless Microsoft popup: "Microsoft X a work stoppage. Windows is looking for a solution... ». It has just started the other day and I did not any changes to my computer. I don't know if this office or Firefox problem. Sometimes a site of multiple programs/Internet in Firefox.

Moses and jscher2000,

I realized what's happened with not being able to open Word or Excel in Firefox. We run Firefox from inside Sandboxie (virtual Navigator) and once I cleaned it out (from all the shit people trying to install on my computer) I don't have the problem anymore.

  • Windows has stopped working error

When you try to save a file in Word or Excel, I get the error message "Microsoft Office has stopped working". The problem just started last night. I have run the Vista operating system and make the regular (monthly) Microsoft updates. My last update ran on 10/1. Tried the online recommended fix to remove a software component snap-in "bluetooth" by selecting Word Options. That did not work as I didn't have a "bluetooth add-in. Any other ideas?

Thanks for asking this question to Microsoft Community.

If I understand correctly you get an error message when you run Microsoft office. I will help you, but I need to ask you a few troubleshooting questions before proceeding.

Since when are you facing the issue? The problem is specific to the office? What version of Microsoft Office is installed on the computer? Do you have any security program installed on the computer? Have you done a recent software or changes to the material on the computer?

We provide more information or if the problem is specific to the office, you can view the query here

See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 , you may need to disable email scanning in AVAST or uninstall it and then delete your email account, compact and repair the database of WinMail (see www.oehelp.com/WMUTil/) then add your return email account again.  WinMail has quite a few quirks and sometimes it appears one needs to remove the account to solve the problems.

  • Explorer Windows has stopped working error Code of Exception c0000005. I tried a lot of things please help!

I am running Vista Home Premium.  I tried a system restore, restore the config, I tried chkdsk/f.  I tried almost everything in the knowledge base, with the exception of the running recovery discs - because I don't have a copy and repair start because there is no part of my system.  This error occurred after I installed updates windows on September 16 and then I installed Office 2007.  This worked for about 12 hours and then I kept, the message that Windows Explorer has ceased to operate either restart or find a solution online and restart.  None of these options worked.  Whenever I start my computer normally what happens and when I boot in the options of safe mode what happens.  I tried to create a recovery disc neosmart on another computer Vista, but when I put it in my laptop to boot from, the system does not recognize there of nothing on the disc but if I open a task manager and create a new task - browse - discovery of the cd player - click on all programs - it shows that the program of 120 MB is on it.  I have a Sony Vaio laptop.  I'm a student and can't afford it by another computer.  This one is about 3 or 4 years.  Help, please!  I tried to call tech support at Microsoft and Sony and they want to charge me I have no money.  Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.  Ah yes I also deleted the 2007 Office program and I downloaded all the updates too.  Does not solve the problem.  I also did a thorough through Norton Security Suite virus scan.  Nothing has been found.  Also tried the clean boot and that did not help either.  Okay, I think that all covers.  Thank you in advance.

    Hi PA bear

Thank you for your interest for my problem. Another long session of trial and error on this issue. I tried different solutions offer after having read a few other answers users forum, tried to find PowerShell in the M/S Download Center but failed in the present. At the end of the day, I gave up and disconnected.

I started my PC this morning and found that M/S Windows 7 has set its self, so Windows Update now as it should. What was wrong with Windows for 24 hours? I got a popup saying there had been a failure, and a report was compiled and sent to M/S.

I tried to reload the McAfee security software but failed, which resulted in an email exchange with a member of the McAfee technical support team that took control of my keyboard and mouse. I noticed that it resets the default values for the original settings and remove the history of Solution Explorer. After these adjustments, I was able to reload the McAfee security software and fortunately my PC is protected and that it works correctly.

What was the problem with M/S Windows 7 on this occasion is a mystery to me, I thought for a moment that I had picked up a virus. I don't think that this report will be of value to other users?

Tried to restart and used Malware Bytes and my security suite Norton to seek something malicious, without success. Any suggestions?

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    2. when exactly you get this error?

I suggest you try to reset to a new start Indexing Options by removing and then rebuild the index and check if it helps.
Your search index requires virtually no maintenance. However, if the index looking for files that you know problems must be in a location indexed; You may have to re-create the index.

    To rebuild the index:

    a. open indexing and Search Options by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking Indexing Options.

    b. click Advanced Options, click the index settings tab and then click on rebuild. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • My option "open in a new tab in the same window" has stopped working.

After working for centuries without any problem, my option "open in a new tab in the same window" has stopped working.  Support suggested that I go to tools, select internet options and open tabs, and then select open in a new tab in the same window option.  I did as instructed and concluded that this option under the tabs was already selected and unchanged.  I changed this option, closed my browser and restarted my computer as instructed.

As before you follow these instructions, and when viewing online and wish to open a link in a new tab in the same window I once again this desired option.   Internet does not take into account my instructions and opens my link in a new window.  This is extremely irritating.

    Does anyone have a solution?

  • Backup Microsoft Windows has stopped working

I use an external hard drive to back up my files. The old backup files have been removed. Now when I try to back up my files, I get the message to create a new full backup. When I go into the settings and try to create a new full backup I get the message "backup of microsoft windows has stopped working".

The CheckDisk does not resolve the issue. However, I have solved my problem: create a new full backup on a disk separate trip then copied these files on my external hard drive, retried the backup by using the external hard drive and it succeeded. Everything should be OK now.
