  Find your profile and the prefs.js file and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your default preferences. You can then re open and use Firefox. Then, try to return to normal.

  Try to manually change the file prefs.js is normally a bad idea. However, if this is a one-time change prefs it would be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (while Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before.   I found my profile.ini for Firefox file by using the information in your message *http://kb.mozillazine.org/profiles.ini_file. There were 2 profiles in the ini file, so I deleted one and kept the other one who had the same name as the folder profile and saved the ini file. Bingo-test - Firefox works! I think the graphics card driver update helped also that IE works properly now as well.
