Firefox does not remember my cookies, even if I choose history does not forget and remember passwords for sites.
I choose to remember the story in the Privacy tab and remember passwords for sites on the Security tab in the Options, but when I close Firefox, it doesn't remember my cookies and I have to make the connections manually everytime I open Firefox.
In case you use "clear history of Firefox closing:
- do not delete 'Cookies' and 'Site preferences.
- Tools > Options > Privacy: history: [X] clear history of Firefox closing > settings
- https://support.Mozilla.org/KB/clear+recent+history
Note that compensation "Preferences of Site" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, windows pop up, installation of software and passwords.
If clearing cookies doesn't work, then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies is corrupted.
Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other files to present as cookie cookies.sqlite - journal in the profile folder of Firefox in the case where the cookies.sqlite file has been corrupted.

Option "Remember passwords for sites" is not save
Firefox does not save my selected option to remember passwords. After a new installation (6.02) on Windows 7 but import my profile files from another Windows 7 machine (6.02). (The profile saved successfully previous passwords.)
Under Options > Security, I click "Remember passwords for sites" and close the control panel - but whenever I return to this setting, the option is clicked. This happens within a session open after moving between sites, not just for new sessions. I emptied all exceptions, and 'Continuous browsing history' and 'clear history' is certainly not checked in the history management settings.
My previous password information is all there and saved in password manager, I am just unable to get Firefox to allow using saved passwords or store my selection to save passwords.
Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the acceleration hardware or extensions is the origin of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).
- Makes no changes on the start safe mode window.

After the ESR 38.0.1 (and later upgrade to 38.0.5) the "Remember passwords for sites" setting is disabled after the closure of a browsing session. If I like the beginning of a new session, it works exactly as expected, but the setting never persists between sessions.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.
- Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

Firefox will remember the default passwords. You may have turned this feature off, or told Firefox to never remember passwords for a particular site.
. At the top of the Firefox window, click the Tools menu and select Options.
. Select the Security Panel.
. If it is not already checked, check Remember password for sites.HOWEVER, the button "Remember passwords for sites" is blocked.
Help!
Note that you are currently in private browsing mode, according to the list of system details:
- Browser.privatebrowsing.AutoStart = True
Note that you have also switched on the keyboard navigation: accessibility.browsewithcaret = True
You can enable or disable this setting power through F7.- Tools > Options > advanced > general > accessibility: "always use the cursor keys to navigate through the pages."

Why not remember passwords for sites to work?
I just bought a new HP Envy 8.1 Windows running. I can't get passwords to remember the sites to work. The pop up shows and correct settings have been selected in tools, but nothing will save. I guess I'm on the latest version of Firefox since I downloaded on my computer today. My old computer that is also running windows 8.1 worked fine with passwords do not forget.
Ok. Thamks. I'll mark this thread solved. I have a copy of the original and renamed files, so if I lose the info of password management, I'll have to back ups. Once again thank you.

Using Firefox version 38.0.1. On an iMac OS 10.10.3, I installed the plugin for Firefox with Apple Keychain integration. But impossible to get Firefox to ask me to save passwords. I have configured a master password for firefox but still does not work even after restarting Firefox.
It would be great if it worked as I'm sure you're all right if I just push the right button. Who is?
Thank youThanks for the help jscher, but it turns out that I was using private browsing, and passwords are stored naturally not so "remember password is disabled." This makes sense to me now.
