Firefox keeps exposing a nag on outdated Flash plugin bar

Recently, Firefox keeps displaying a yellow bar horse informing me that my Flash plugin is obsolete and should be updated. I can't update my flash because I don't have no administrator rights on this PC (but in return, I am not responsible for any damage caused by respective exploits). However my portable Firefox keeps this nag bar display. Checks for all sorts of updates is disabled in the options, but that doesn't seem to cover this check for plugins update (or at less the flash plugin). What can I do?

you are welcome - please note that for version 11.3 of flash, you must copy the two .dll file & the FlashPlayerPlugin_11_3_XXX_XXX.exe (which is used for protected mode adobe) in the folder plugin, otherwise Firefox crashes on pages with flash content.

  • Firefox 31.3 incorrectly identifies as obsolete Flash plugin

After the update to Firefox 31.3.0 ESR and ESR Flash 13.0.0.259, I get a message out of date, but there is no more recent version of Flash available. Firefox seems to identify the wrong Flash version it is not outdated, he even said there is no update. What is the solution here, is there a way to tell Firefox that the plugin is approved. • Firefox ESR 10.0.12 disables the flash plugin - updates to the latest version do not work?

Suddenly - without the measures taken by me - FF ESR 10.0.12 refuses to accept Adobe Flash? (System Win 7 Ultimate 64)
It started with a very boring bar, which cost me 2 hours to turn it off, which told me to update a plugin from Adobe Reader very old and unused. Then, he insisted, that the Foxit PDF reader plugin is not updated. Because I do not use it, I disabled too. Since I rarely use Flash, I just found out today, that youtube does more - FF insists, that my flash plugin is too old and there it turned off.
It has cost me hours so far and this is _exactly_ the reason why I use the channel of the ESR.
    What I did:
Have completely uninstalled Adobe Flash (using Windows). Used the normal Firefox update, which he would recommend (your flash drive has been disabled, please install...). Without success, it simply goes in a loop, always telling me that my flash player is too old.
I also installed directly from Adobe (version Firefox!), in all cases, it reports version 11.5.502.104. The latest version of Adobe-, but it seems to be too old?

I'm spitting angry now - this kind of disorder is the reason that I only use Mozilla's ESR versions. I don't want your troop of chaos to play with the installation of _my_. But obviously, you have found ways to do it.

If this is not resolved (and no, I do _not_ reinstall Firefox, I'm not going to delete my profile) in a few days, Firefox is dead to me. I'm already with Chrome and Opera. Many friends have these browsers - I am a bit conservative and I want as my stable browser and look a feeling must also be stable. I do _not_ want a new version every two weeks, which costs each time that my effort and time to configure it as I want.

The question is: How did you disable the latest version of Flash and why? Why do I now register here and investing valuable time to get my browser to work again? If I had done something, install or remove something, okay. But I did not. (And Yes, so far I have day Flash and other plugins, when I was invited to do)

Clearly _your_ management works the _not_: if I use solutions which FF itself recommends, it sends me into an infinite loop: install newer Flash, sorry, Flash is obsolete, install latest Flash...

Is this the new "security"? Bah. If you have done for the 'normal' user (which you obviously don't respect any more), you have not. And you have not completely for me: If software insists on doing things 'automatically', it should make them less reliable, it should ask _or_. But work in the shadows, change things, reports nothing and then failing is exactly the reason why I disable things to "automatic" and want to be _asked_ before some silly piece of c... deconfigures himself - and stops working...

    The following troubleshooting tips:
At this time, Flash player is installed, presents in the list of systems as "Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin" software, Version 11.5.502.146. The others are my normal plugins. Several changes to about: config were made by me in order to do usable FF again, without harassing the bars 'info '...

Found: in some sort plugin.scan.plid.all entry disappeared from my setup under "subject: config'." It simply no longer existed.

After much research and cursing I found and reinstated, with the Boolean value 'true '. Now Flash Player is once again, and it seems to work. The horse is gone. Also, I was able to uninstall the old plugin Adobe Reader and FoxIt Reader plugin, which I haven't used for a long time (format PDF download always locally). It helped, because the annoying nag window went away, and I could reactivate other options that I had to disable, to get rid of a bar/window indicating the information known about a plugin that was disabled and not used anyway. (It started with 10.0.12 update, I think)

Comment: It's unnecessary _completely_ for me (plugin was the last version of anyway, because he has a service life of update and updates without FF). It took me 2-3 hours of precious time.

    Could you please consider:
    (1) INFORM the user about the problems and not more stupid click me once windows with standard chat text. Even Microsoft, not known for their openness and user information, was able to inform me of updates of _what_ _avant_ I install them and _why_ I should install them.
    2) more information in the windows plugin/extension, so there is no chance of finding problems.
    (3) STOP the condescension and mothering the user, at least as an option, so we can choose it. Because if someday leave FF forever, it will be the main reason. I REFUSE to install automatically. I am _responsible_ to my computer. If someone or something moves for example illegal data on it, I can't use the excuse that this was done 'automatically '. I want to know how, when and WHY an update or something is installed. So please stop this patronizing.

  • Firefox does not add the Silverlight or Flash plugins installed

Since Firefox updated to 17.0.1, the plugins flash and silverlight has simply disappeared.
I tried to clean install of the flash player, it didn't work. I tried to install clean an earlier version of flash player, what does not work. The plugin Manager is less useless as it says that the plugin has been installed successfully, but I can't use Netflix or any flash video. I did everything above once more with all the plugins and addons disabled, and still nothing happens.

It gets really frustrating and indeed I plan to switch to chrome after the chain crap, forced updates, mozilla pushed down my throat... Help, please!

-All right, follow these steps in the following order (even if you already have one of these steps, just try again):

    1. Use http://ninite.com/firefox-flash-silverlight/ninite.exe to make sure Firefox, Flash and Silverlight are perfectly up-to-date. Make sure that Firefox is completely closed before running this program. (It might be useful to download this, restart your computer, then run it)
    2. After installation, restart your PC again.
    3. Open Firefox, type about: addons in your address bar, press ENTER. Go to plugins. Flash or Silverlight appear here? You may need to enable them.
    4. If not, reset Firefox. Refresh Firefox – reset the parameters and modules

IE and Google Chrome use their own version of the Flash plugin.
Google Chrome comes with its own version of the Shockwave Flash plugin inspired by pepper, then Google Chrome must be updated every time Flash is updated.

Firefox needs a different version of the Flash plugin to be installed separately.

I think it may cause apple to break spinning ball. Can I remove it and avoid spinning ball? If so, how?

Flash player is a software developed by Adobe , who use many video websites, games, and other items. Flash player can cause slowness, causing many accidents and often has security problems, but use enough sites that its not really possible to avoid it. YouTube, for example, went to a new technology to play videos which is no need of flash player, but facebook always uses the flash drive for many features. So, Yes, we should probably keep it.

If you wish, you can choose which websites to allow a flash drive work on a per-site basis. Come on in "subject: addons" in the address bar, click on the 'plugins' tab and look for what is called "shockwave flash" or similar. In the drop-down next to this menu, you can choose "ask to activate. In this way, firefox will ask you before you run flash on websites, so you can use flash when you want.

Great, thanks for posting back. I will mark your answer as the solution.

Oddly even though I could see speedbit mentioned in your reports of incidents and the title of related bug I didn't see he's looking for to your system details side. It is a component of something else, or Firefox support simply not picked up and listed.

  • I currently have Firefox 9.0. Why the start page for firefox keep telling me that I don't have the latest version?

I currently have Firefox 9.0. Why the start page for firefox keep telling me that I don't have the latest version?

You may need the old start page. Go to Firefox > Options and in the pane general, under Startup, click on restore by default. The page you have probably (http://google.com/firefox) only served to 3.6 (and tells you you are outdated), but some users seem to have gotten stuck on it after updating to Firefox 4 or upper version.

  • I have adobe flash 10.2 installed on my computer via internet explorer, can I install flash plugin through firefox browser

I installed the firefox browser, but it will not display farmville. Do I need to install the flash plugin in the browser firefox or internet explore. I have already adobe flash player installed through Web browser to explore.

There are 2 versions of Flash:

    • the ActiveX for IE version only (see: [ActiveX])
    • the version of the plugin for Firefox and other browsers, except IE

You need to update/install both if you use IE and any other browser. See the instructions below.

    1. To update or install the Flash plugin for the latest version.

      • Download and SAVE to your desktop, so you can find the Setup program later
      • If you do not have the current version, click on the "Player Download Center" link on the 'download and information' or 'Download manual installers' below
      • Once the download is complete, exit Firefox
      • Click on the installer, you just download and install
        • Windows 7 and Vista: will need to right click on the installer and choose 'run as administrator '.
      • Launch Firefox and recheck your version or up to the download link below to test the installation
      • Download and information: http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
        • Use Firefox to go to the site above to update the Firefox plugin (will also install the plugin for most other browsers, except IE)
        • Use IE to go to the site above to update the ActiveX to IE
      • Download manual installers.

If the above has solved the problem, please go back to this answer and click on the button 'Resolved' next to this response. Thank you.

      • Locate and double-click it in the installer that you just downloaded, let the complete installation.
      • Restart Firefox, and look at your plugins.

  • Hi I am trying to get a working version of Java, but Firefox keeps blocking.

I am trying to view Web sites that use Java, but Firefox keeps blocking. I go in addons and try to authorize but everything is gray and will not let me. Is there a way to use the latest Java and udate or should I go with another browser now?

If you are satisfied with this 'solution', that's fine, but if the current version of Java does not have to appear on the page modules, there may be several reasons for this.

    (1) you may need to install the 32-bit version for Firefox. He cannot use the 64-bit version. Oracle has more information on this in their technical support article: which Java download should I choose for my system to Windows 64-bit operating?

    (2) the installation program may have failed. You can check the physical presence of the plugin DLL here:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_60\bin\plugin2\npjp2.dll

If this folder/file does not exist, the installation failed. Please try the installation again.

    (3) Firefox cannot be scans the registry for plugins. Firefox detects most of the plugins in a registry entry. Some users have scanning disabled for some reason any. Here's how check and fix this:

    (A) in a new tab, type or paste Subject: config in the address bar and press ENTER. Click on the button promising to be careful.

    (B) in the search above the list box, type or paste the scan and make a pause so that the list is filtered

    (C) If plugin.scan.plid.all is not set to its default value true, double-click it to activate it by default.

If you have changed this setting, close and restart Firefox to start another analysis.

If you see the Add-ons page, section Plugins yet, can you find the current Java plugin it and allow it?

    (4) registry file to the Firefox plugin may be damaged. You can remove it and Firefox plugins re-scan.

Open the settings folder (AKA Firefox profile) current Firefox help

    • button "3-bar" menu > "?" button > troubleshooting information
    • Menu help > troubleshooting information
    • type or paste Subject: support in the address bar and press enter

In the first table of the page, click on the "view file" button to launch a new window of Windows Explorer showing your settings files.

Leave this window open, switch back to Firefox and output, either:

    • "3-bar" menu button > button "power".
    • File menu > exit

Pause while Firefox finishing its cleanup, then rename pluginreg.dat to something like pluginreg.old

Launch Firefox back up again. (If you want to restore your previous session non-private use history > restore previous Session.)

When you return to the Add ons page, is the current Java plugin finally on the list?

  • I get a message saying that firefox has prevented the dangerous 'adobe flash' plugin of the race

my flash player IS up-to-date, but firefox crashes and I get this error message
Firefox prevented the dangerous 'adobe flash' plugin of the race (some im webpage on)
Let me know how I can fix this? AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

    Hi Janetc69,

I had the same problem, after having informed me with a few mags of PC online, I simply uninstalled Adobe flash player in my laptop.
Since then, I got no problem with playback of videos with firefox browser. What more, it seems to work better than before.
Anyway most of the browsers are slowly remove Adobe flash player on their systems.
If this does not work you can always reinstall Adobe, try it.

    Good luck!

  • I have firefox I put in player17.0.0 flash and I can't see vidios on utube or play games on facebook or zynga. Why not? What should I do?

When I was asked to update my flash player, so I did, I was playing farm town 2 on Zynga. When I did, I went to play my game and the image would not return. The site came, but the game would not load completely so that I can play the game. I'm went on You tube to play music videos and the videos would not play. I went to my WWE network to see if I could look at him and I could not watch anything there either. I can not even play my games book face. I loaded and unloaded flashplayer at least a dozen times or more, and I still can't get anywhere. I can also do not charge any old version of flash player. What should I do?

First of all, unfortunately, pop-up message on the Flash updates while you visit Web sites can often install malware. If you notice any strange behavior then please complete your plan of regular safety with some freedom to scan/cleaning of the tools listed in our technical support article: Troubleshooting Firefox problems caused by malware.

Secondly, your "more details of the system" does not show the 'Shockwave Flash' plugin, so it can be disabled. You can check on the page modules, either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. Search for "Shockwave Flash", and if you find it, change permission to 'never activate' to 'ask to activate '.

If the plugin is not there, you can check the following folder to see if you find this file on the system:

    File: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
    File: NPSWF32_17_0_0_188.dll

I also noticed something odd: you said Windows 7, but your Firefox means Windows XP. Could clear you any parameter of backward compatibility on your shortcut to Firefox. Here's how, either:

    • Right click of your Firefox shortcut on the desktop > properties
    • right click on your icon of Firefox taskbar pinned > Mozilla Firefox right-click > properties

In this dialog box, open the Compatibility tab and make sure that nothing is settled here, so Firefox can take full advantage of Windows 7.
