Firefox recently started opening new tabs when I click on search results how do I get this to stop
When I use Google and I click on a search result, it opens a new tab, where it used to just take me to a new page in the tab I was using, I searched on the tabs tab in options and saw I could choose to open in a new window, but I don't see an option to open it in the current tab. It started to arrive from nowhere.
Found a setting in Google that said to open all the result in a new window that I guessed that Firefox has been the substitution and open it in a new tab as suggested settings unchecked the box in Google and now the behaviour is back to normal.

I have several bugs mentioned in FF 17.0.1. I'm only able to open bookmarks by clicking on them and selecting open in a new tab in the menu dropdown. I can't open a new tab by clicking the new tab or by clicking Open a new tab in the menu at the top of the browser drop-FF. In addition, no buttons work in FF, such as home, previous, next or update. It is so aggravating!
Once I posted this, I restarted with Add ons disabled and it worked... deleted a cpl of addons for the verification of the compatibility and fixed it.

I wonder if you have Yahoo or some other add-on toolbar that makes the promotion of Yahoo search. I ask because even when I open Yahoo in a private window to circumvent any existing cookies, I don't see this message. (But I am certainly block some ad servers used by Yahoo).

You can check your extensions in case something snuck in. You can view and clear the page modules. Either:

Often when opening new tabs of pages newtab miniatures (topic: newtab) newtab - full page refreshes or otherwise falters. This sometimes causes some tabs are not open when ctrl-click on several thumbnails in a row. Page newtab recalculates after each click what thumbnails it should show, and this could cause the flickering effect? (Although I don't see changes in miniature order.)
Hi FFanatic,

Firefox open multiple tabs when I click on an email address.
This is the second time that I checked all this information, I hope it works this time.
A while back, I changed to Firefox's mailto in Options > Applications > mailto
After that, when I would click on an e-mail address, Firefox might open new tabs VERY quickly and would not stop until I used the Task Manager to close Firefox.
I then went back and changed mailto to always ask.
But the same thing always happens when I click on an e-mail address, Firefox opens tabs very quickly until I close with the Manager tasks.
I checked the settings in subject: config "Network.protocol - handler.external.mailto" and it is Boolean, default true.
I don't want a default email program to put, I always ask. Please help with this.

When I run Firefox, it opens normally, but when I click on + for a new page, the new page has 9 small windows on the screen. I searched for help and tried to delete the history. Now the 9 pages are still there but empty.
This is a new feature. It is expected that when you open a new page rather than it is empty it has miniature pictures that you can use as links to open the pages that you use frequently. The content of the page can be customized.
It is easy to turn the feature on or off, click on the small grid gray icon top right.
More permanently, the feature can be disabled if you prefer. Also note if you use the private browsing mode pages can read is not put in a new tab as a thumbnail.

I tried looking through all the settings it gave me and I can't find when it won't let me open a new tab. All the settings that I have are the parameters by default and before that happens, I wasn't even in the frame, so it's not like I was messing around with them and then he messed up it just happened once. I have no virus or anything because I use 3 virus different scans and they say that my own computer. My virus scan programs are also up-to-date as I've updated them today.

On my homepage, I have upward and I want to open a new tab. When I click to open a new tab, nothing happens. How can this be repaired?
Hello lsmalls787, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode that disables certain parameters, disables most Add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart Firefox Safe mode in the Help menu:
- In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button
click Help
then select restart with disabled modules.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Mode safe mode as follows:
- On Windows: Hold down the SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.
When find you what is causing your problems, please let us know. This might help others with the same problem.
Thank you
- In Firefox 29,0 and above, click on the menu button
