  After reading some posts here about possible solutions, I tried to delete all the cookies for YouTube (Tools > options > privacy > show cookies > youtube.com). Then tested on a site with integrated video would not play before and on YouTube directly - both worked!

  The poster with the suggestion of cookies also proposed changes to the 'exceptions', but it was not necessary at least for me.

  Well that makes sense. but I managed to remove windows dev in the 32-bit version of Vista. As for the 2.6 version, it may not work - on vista if it detects the orginal MM - just good enuf. I thought that 2.6 has been an upgrade - I was apparently wrong. It would be nice to not feel like a fool - with your response being so rude. Digging around, it seems that the problem comes from the original item, but I still wonder why audio will not play and if there is anything I can do (any codec I use) which will fix the problem. I played around using the options both AAC or MPEG, mono/stereo, played with sampling frequency and bitrate but nothing seems to have no effect on her.
