Firewall blocking of communication?

How can I get my printer wireless to show 'online' instead 'offline '? The printer is works very well with the other two laptops, but my laptop does not communicate with the printer. My guess is that there are a few settings the communicaton of blocking because of firewall configuration? I spent hours trying to figure out this problem.  I can not link or download information, such as itunes or update certain programs, such as TurboTax. It's probably easily fixed, but a setting somewhere blocks all these different programs. Thank you for your help.

You should have asked your question in forum Windows 7 networking and online (rather than the "forum security, confidentiality and XP user accounts").

Networking in Windows 7 is a bit more difficult than for XP (because Windows 7 has added some security devices), but I'll see what I can do for you.

When you say that the difficulty has always been like that, does include printing problem as long as access to the iTunes store and TurboTax?

How did you install the printer?  The installation was successful (you can print a test page)?

HP has a 'HP printer install wizard for Windows 7' that might help.  You can uninstall the printer first--> http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02259020&tmp_task=useCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&os=4063&product=3919449&softwareitem=oj-100441-1&sw_lang=#N1062

Here are the suggestions for Apple to problems connecting to the iTunes store.  If they fix your ability to connect to iTunes, they'll probably also fix the fitting of TurboTax: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1527

I spent in Windows7. The firewall blocking MSN games so I can't play against the people. How to enable the firewall allow my computer to play against others? I disabled the firewall and it is not yet allowing me access.   Thank you.

    Hi NoelXS,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you!

From your problem description, I understand that you are unable to play MSN games, because it is blocked by the firewall. Please correct me if I misunderstood the question.

Before troubleshooting, I need to ask a few questions.

    1. What is the exact error message?

    2. are you referring to Windows Firewall and third-party firewall programs?

3 are you facing this problem with MSN games?

4 are you facing this problem with the specific MSN game or all games MSN?

    5. were you able to play earlier? You have installed any third-party firewall program?

Try the methods provided for in article below and check after each method:

Method 1: Uninstall the third-party firewall, as applicable.

Note: More installation of a firewall program led to conflict.

    Uninstall programs: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Uninstall-or-change-a-program

Method 2: If you are referring to Windows Firewall, you can open a port for the game so that the firewall allows the game information to reach your computer. For more information, see this link.

Open a port in Windows Firewall: http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/open-a-port-in-Windows-Firewall

I did some research on another site, and I came up with the FIX for this issue. It has to do with the node XP somehow getting ready to type "Peer-to-peer". I applied the fix in this article:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/903267

and the problem is now solved.

Please come back and let everyone know how you fixed the end!

However, the fact that this has happened and you don't know how concerned me (if it was my machine).

Here's what I propose for extra cleaning:

    Search for malware:

Download, install, execute, update and perform analyses complete system with the two following applications:

Remove anything they find. Reboot when necessary. (You can uninstall one or both when finished.)

Search online with eSet Online Scanner.

The less you have to run all the time, most things you want to run will perform:

Use Autoruns to understand this all starts when your computer's / when you log in. Look for whatever it is you do not know usingGoogle (or ask here.) You can hopefully figure out if there are things from when your computer does (or connect) you don't not need and then configure them (through their own built-in mechanisms is the preferred method) so they do not - start using your resources without reason.

You can download and use Process Explorer to see exactly what is taking your time processor/CPU and memory. This can help you to identify applications that you might want to consider alternatives for and get rid of all together.

original title: Firewall blocking the printer?

After unplugging, reboot, a message error that the printer does not communicate and you have a firewall preventing maybe printing...  This comes out of the blue as it was before printing.  How can I know if the firewallis to blame?

    Hi KarenBrice,

    ·         Were you able to access the printer earlier?

    ·         What is the brand and model of the printer?

    ·         What security software do you use?

I suggest you try the procedure described in article provided below and check if it helps.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-printer-problems

    Temporarily disable the security software.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

I have a small home network with a Server 2003 machine, 2 wired xp machines, 2 machines xp wireless and a machine of windows 7, which can be wired or wireless. (Currently hard-wired). My problem is the windows 7 machine cannot connect to 2003 server machine as long as the windows 2003 firewall is enabled. • How can I stop the firewall blocking ports of gaming?

Original title: port blocking of firewall, that can not unlock & failure audit

I had a very annoying problem with my ports lately. I don't think I did something to change my settings, but I had a little virus at the time, it began to happen, I get removed (at least for the most part...)

Basically, my ports that I opened for the games were closed, even though I had port-forwarded correctly in my router configuration pages. I finally tried to disable the firewall of Windows completely and all of a sudden my ports were working. I tried to set my firewall settings if it would work when turned on while keeping my ports are open, but I could not understand. I decided to just completely remove all settings and restore the default configuration. In this way, I have just wait for notification that appears and says "Windows Firewall has prevented blah blah blah" and ask me to block the incoming/outgoing connection. But I never got this message. "Not a huge deal," I thought, ' I'll just add it manually then.» I continued to come in the error "an error occurred during the addition of the rule. Error: Access is denied. Status: the rule has been analyzed with success of the store. "I tried to add port rules, the rules of the program, custom rules, but none of them worked. I decided to check the event viewer later and noticed Audit failures when I opened my programs that relied on the ports. The error says "firewall Windows could not notify the user that he blocked an application to accept inbound connections on the network. Error code: 5 (event ID: 5032)

Now, after a lot of googling and few answers, I've seen people make that same mistake, but with the error Code: 2 perhaps, but I don't think that I've never seen more than one person getting an error code 5. Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem? The only way I can do what I have (almost) everything want right now is away the Windows Firewall, but I always get problems of port with a couple of my programs. The best explanation is that this virus tinkered around with my firewall settings, but there may be a way to fix it through the registry editor?
