First hard drive 0 not found on Dell Windows XP computer

Original title: Hard Drive not found

I have a Dell Dimension 4550 Series computer using Windows XP SP3.  At startup the following message now "Primary Hard Disk Drive 0 not found".  Only the option F1 or F2 gives me or what appears to be a viable solution.  Impossible to access anything whatsoever beyond this screen.  All connections look OK.  Resolution ideas are welcome!  Thank you.

Hi MartinL960,

Remember to make changes before this problem?

It is a hardware problem with Dell, through my research I found that users encounter similar problem solved the problem by making changes to hard disk parameters in the BIOS.

Important: Change BIOS (Basic input output system) /semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

Since the resolution requires the modification of the BIOS that is risky, I recommend you contact dell for more specialist on this question help

  • Primary hard drive 0 not found Dell Latitude

    Hello

I just bought 2 notebooks of Dell Latitude D800 with no operating system. The first laptop is fine, but the second, when I turn it on it shows the Dell screen with the loading bar. The loading bar is to halfway to the end when it freezes. The system freezes on this screen for about a minute, then it beeps twice and a black screen that says:

"First hard drive 0 not found '.

No bootable devices - don't strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup utility.

So I go into the BIOS and see under "internal hard drive" and he says: 'no '. I checked and make sure the hard disk has been activated, and it is.

I took the hard drive and reinstalled it. Nothing. The drive is a Toshiba 40 GB. In addition, mention, the reader makes a weird noise (not the click of death) and the hard drive on the laptop stays on all the time.

Other D800 I mentioned boots very quickly and displays a no. OS screen, which is very good.

    So is my dead HDD?

    Thank you

It is quite clear that the BIOS does not recognize the hard drive.  I suspect that the IDE controller on the motherboard has failed.

Given that you have two cell phones similar to fool around with, probably the fastest way to isolate the problem is to swap hard drives.  Call the laptop that does not have one and one that works B

If the laptop has now boots and cell B now is not, you know that the player who has been to A is bad.

If A laptop computer still does not start and portable B boots again, then you know that the two disks are OK and the problem is the motherboard or the connector of the drive in the laptop.

  • (brand new) hard drive 0 not found (Latitude D600)

    ======================================================

I know this has been discussed a lot, but I have not found a solution.

My laptop is a Dell Latitude D600, BIOS Version: A16

My HARD drive died last week, he was making noises that I made backups.

Of course, one morning I turned it on and it says '... ". hard drive 0 not found... »

So I thought right we'll buy a new one, no big deal. In this case.

But to my horror, the brand-spanking-new HARD drive made me exactly the same thing!

Costs of the antistatic packaging, directly in the cradle, with tenderness.

"First hard drive 0 not found '.

No bootable devices - strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for Setup utility.

Also, the BIOS reads my "main hard drive: ' as 'None '.

    I tried: -.

-Replace (re-attachment for cradle clamp, tighten, etc..)

-reset of the BIOS (pressing ALT - F)

-internal 'HDD' isolation in the "boot order" (BIOS)

-startup WinXP CD to format (says also that it cannot detect a HARD drive)

-stroked and tweaked every possible BIOS setting

-a ran the diagnostics (well Yes, tells me that it cannot find a HARD disk)

-check the temperature (not a problem at all)

I bought my D600 to opportunity without boot floppies or manuals, and private security has passed.

I'll try to take out the battery for a day to see if that will be "flash BIOS" but I can't help you as (to my knowledge) the motherboard settings remain stored with the help of a small battery attached to the actual motherboard that would be inside the envelope, so I think it's a misunderstanding in another post on the forum , but I'll try it in desperation anyway. Next step would be to open the envelope and checking the IDE and remove the battery from the motherboard for 5-10 minutes.

After that, my only option is to send to some local business PC repair. Ick.

Any help will be VERY appreciated! Thank you.

  • This hard drive is not supported by Dell

I have Dell PowerEdge 2900 with 5 SAS drives in a massive RAID. All five disks SEAGATE ST373355SS 73 Gb. a few days ago one of those readers start flashing orange LED on the front of the server and also to make the mechanical noise. I do not have the same disks and I was remove the defect of the disc and insert SEAGATE ST3146356SS 146 GB. After installing a new disk in my server Hi flashes green LED power and data reading. This means that everything is ok, works salvation! Then I launch Dell PowerEdge Ver.2.9 diagnosis and saw a status of this discs - this hard drive is not supported by Dell.
Can someone told me there is a problem or not and how to fix it?

Dell uses the 'standard' of different sellers drive models, but the manufacturers loading a custom firmware on the Dell drives certified to work seamlessly with Dell controllers. Dell firmware update will not work on non Dell readers, even if it's for the exact model.

When I go to start my computer it says Primary Hard Disk Drive not found 1, strike F1 to continue, F2 to run Setup notility. Hi RebelxxQueen,

    · You made changes to hardware or BIOS settings recently?

You may need to change the BIOS settings.

  • I lose a hard drive space every day on my Windows 7 computer

My computer is barely a month.  I only put on about 6 programs, all with small footprints.  I transferred to about 70 GB of files.  I know that the system uses the memory out of the box, but even with all that taken into account, that I can't take into account more than 40 GB of space and the amount increases every day.

I was check and each day I lose a few GB of hard drive space.  Where's he going?  There is much info on Vista and some of its features that uses a hard disk space, I guess than some that apply to Windows 7.  But seriously, for example I lost 2GB between yesterday and today, and I have absolutely nothing to the computer.

Clean temporary files and use Disk Cleanup to reclaim space.  But it is usually minimal and it does not take into account what I lose.  I have the system to restore all of the space to a fairly small percentage.  In summary, I think I have everything correct in order to minimize the use of hard drive, but the space is to be consumed at an alarming rate.  No virus, MSE is on the system and did not find a thing.

Where the hell the space continues?  I am glad that I have a large hard drive, so there is move the room, but it's ridiculous to have disk space available endangered on its own.  I don't know that it's associated BONE.  Thoughts?

  • HARD drive can be found on LX835-D3380

Can anyone help? Went to switch pc on lx385-d3380 and all of a sudden, that is to say no drive found.

    Hello

The HARD drive is recognized in the BIOS?
Go to the BIOS by pressing F2. Usually the HARD drive should appear on the first page of the BIOS.
If it is not listed, the HARD drive was not found by the BIOS... I suppose that because of HARD drive failure.

In this case, the HARD drive should be replaced to solve the problem.

  • Toshiba Canvio Basics HARD drive does not appear in my computer

    Hello

I have a HDTB110AK3BA - Toshiba 1 TB Canvio Plus Portable Hard Drive for storage 3.0 Basics and the computer will allow it to connect, but it does not appear in my computer / pc is in Device Manager thought but not my pc

Please help and Windows 7 or windows 8.1 PC do the same thing.

    Hello

I found the description of the product of this external HARD disk:

    Product features:
    • USB 3.0 - powered portable add-on storage.
    • Voltage of bus capable USB, no need for AC adapter.
    • Easy to use with no software to install.
    • Adapts to large digital files with spacious storage capacity.
    • Protect your drive (internal shock sensor and ramp loading technology).

    Specifications
    • Capacity: 1.0 TB
    • Interface: USB 3.0
    • Transfer rate: up to 5 Gb/s
    • Speed: 5 400 rpm
    • Average access time: 12ms
    • Cache buffer: 8 MB

It is a HARD USB 3.0 drive. No doubt the HARD drive is not recognized correctly in windows exploerer due to the low power.
The USB 2.0 port common feeds only 500mA. The USB 3.0 device must be able to 900mA.
Therefore, it would be advisable to connect this 2 ports USB 2.0 HARD drive with a USB Y cable
