First things to do after Resinstalling Windows (do I run Windows Update first, then install Antivirus or vice versa?)

I reinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 from recovery disks provided with the laptop HP. This reformats the disk and restores out of the box.

When connecting to the internet:

Make all Windows updates before installing the Antivirus/security software? (it comes with a trial version of Norton but I uninstall, I use Kaspersky).

or can I install AV before Windows updates?

so...

AV before updates or updates of Windows before AV?

What is the risk?

The last time I did a check, there are 245MB of updates of critical security waits directly after installation. This does not include Service Pack 2. The computer has no patch for the last 5 years.

When you run the update from HP (without AV) I got a bunch of data execution prevention errors and update of HP and Explorer.exe crashes when you try to update the driver chipset via this mechanism.

I am hesitant after that, so a full recovery of the system with HP recovery disks, once again in case I got a virus.

Data sheet:

HP 2008 entertainment laptop

Windows Vista Edition Home Premium 32 bit SP1

Internet Explore 7

2 GB of Ram

Intel Core 2 Duo

I want to be sure, please give me some advice on what to do here.

I also do new recovery discs w / software provided to avoid this in the future.

Thank you!!!

First, install your anti-virus software.

If service pack 1 is installed, then go straight to the service pack 2, install him alone then untick or clear all other updates, it will still be many updates for, but it should reduce the number.

You can disable your anti virus for installation, usually click or right-click on the AV icon in the taskbar (bottom right of the screen).

I fixed it the first time by running a system restore, but I don't want to have to restore the system whenever windows updates. I am running Vista on a HP Pavilion (DV6 I think) I know that this has nothing to do with browsers, since it happened twice after a windows update.

In addition, all is well in the mng device. and I can hear in media player.

    Hello

Do you mean the button that launches Internet Explorer?

According to your message the laptop doesn't connect to the WLan automatically and you will need to connect it manual to get the job of WLan.
    Is this right?

I put t know how you have connected the laptop to your router, but usually, if you own Windows WLan zero configuration then you should make sure that the parameters to a called + connect when this network is in range. +

I have Windows vista Ultimate edition. but he started asking for activation after the windows update while it has already been activated before the update.

    Hello, Pichon,

If Windows Vista application unexpected activation

On rare occasions, you may be prompted to activate Windows Vista on a computer that did not previously require Windows Vista activation or has already been activated successfully. For example, this may occur on a computer on which Windows Vista was preinstalled by an OEM installation or Volume licensing and are major hardware changes occurred, such as upgrading the hard disk and memory at the same time.

If you are prompted to reactivate Windows Vista, you can do this by using the Windows Activation Wizard to:

    1. Click Start, and then click computer.
    2. Click System Properties on the toolbar, and then click click here to activate Windows now in the Windows activation area. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click continue.
    3. Select the Windows Vista activation method that you want, and then follow the instructions.

To avoid this problem in the future, obtain the latest service pack for your version of Windows Vista, either through automatic updates or direct download.

To update to Windows Vista and prevent this activation problem does not happen:

    1. Click Start, click all programs, and then click Windows Update.
    2. Click find updates.
    3. As soon as Windows Vista found the updates, click the install updates button.

    Hi Dan MJ.

Yes, you can go ahead and try the steps in my previous post and check if this solves the problem.

If these steps is not enough you can follow these methods and check if it works:

Method 1: I you recommend to turn off the computer, unplug the power, restart the computer and reconnect the USB device. See if the device is detected.

Method 2: You can run the hardware and devices Troubleshooter and see if this fits the Bill.

Open the hardware and devices Troubleshooter

  • Windows Update does not install the updates from 14/04/2009. Error code 80070002.

I'm running 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Dimension E520 PC desktop with processor Pentium dual core and 3 GB of RAM.
Reasonably up-to-date hardware. Well protected and all software security entirely to so far.
My problem that goes from Windows Update is not install updates from 14/04/2009 and returns the error Code 80070002.
I followed the advice and went in the Windows Software Distribution folder and remove all the contents of the data store and records downloads and tried again about thirty times now.
I get regarding the acceptance of the license agreement and clicking on, ok, when Vista dims the screen and asks if I started it and then the error message in Windows Update, saying: "some updates were not installed."
Is not a computer expert, I guess that what is described in help Windows Update error Code 80070002 is the same as 0 x 80070002 for which I found advice on a Microsoft page to save these commands
    net stop wuauserv
    CD %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
    Ren Download.old download
    net start wuauserv
as a windows batch file and run as administrator.
I now have a download folder and Download.old folder. Fascinating but no help at all!
I infer that the numbers of 0x0 are my six error codes failed attempts to install Vista Service Pack 1, a few months ago who always ended up with an unusable computer suspended with a black screen and the white writing showing 46 thousand of 96 thousand file and something, followed by a number of 0x0.
The only way I could get of these attempts was by booting from the Installation of Vista disk, masking the Service Pack 1 update and using the system restore, but that's another story.
Have an impact on my current problem, I wonder?
For absolute clarity are the updates that won't install:
Explores update for Internet Explore 7 edition (KB963027) 14/04/2009 (Just editing that.) Typed a wrong number in a first time. Sorry).
Four updates of security for Windows Vista (KB952004) (KB956572) (KB959426) (KB960803)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - April (KB890830). (I downloaded it manually and run it from my office and we found no problem).
Update of security for Microsoft Office System 2007 (KB960003)
Update of security for Microsoft Office Excel 2007 (KB959997).
I'm at a loss what to try next.
FYI, I use Uni-bleu Power Suite 2009, McAfee Total Protection and Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition with Ad-Watch Live on.
I tried to do everything that it with Ad-Aware died, but my hunch is that the problem is in Vista ot the updates themselves.
I'm quite competent with guests of orders, not to mention manually editing the registry!
However, any help would be received with gratitude and I guess that if the instructions are evidence of fool I have very carefully follow step by step.

I have the same symptoms: from a distinct point in time updates of windows works more and every time returned the error code 80070002.
After a few hours, I found the solution: sfc/scannow reported the wuauclt.exe file.
And the reason was: McAfee virusscan put this file in quarantine. He is falsely W32/Generic.worm.aa in there.
Restore this file from the GUI of McAfee completely solved this problem.

Try running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. Right click on your drive icon / properties / tools / error checking.  Try first by checking do not each box (that it will run in read-only mode) to see if it reports any problems file or hard drive.  If so, restart it by checking both boxes and restart to allow him to attempt to fix any problems found.

As for the "Changes" problem that I have no real solution for this, only that you remove every bit of desktop of your machine and everything don't reinstall desktop applications you need.  It could be a corrupted registry which is behind this problem.

Additional troubleshooting measures to date include:

-Uninstall the software OEM AV (Norton), then by restarting.

I find it peculiar that you just bought a HP computer brand new, still-in-the-box, which came with Windows 8, not 8.1, preinstalled Windows. That said, cross your fingers, roll up your sleeves and try the fix following multiple step, I cooked up just for your computer...

    ACTIONS

[You may want to print these instructions for reference offline.  IMPORTANT => NO SKIP & perform all steps in one uninterrupted session!  [If a step said to restart, restart! ]

1 right-click on the link, select SAVE TARGET as.... & download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

    2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

    3. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above and select run as administrator to run the Norton utility. DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

    4. right-click on the following link and save the download to your desktop: ie8 - rereg.all.zip [1]

4B. right click on the file that you saved in # 4 has & select EXTRACT ALL. This will create a new folder in Office also appointed ie8 - rereg.all. The folder contains both scripts below (plus a third that will NOT be).

    Note-online scripts are good for IE9, IE10 & IE11, too,

    5. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the task bar), open the folder created in step # 4 b above & double-click on the file named ie8 - rereg.32on64.cmd to run the script.

5 b. Repeat this for the file named ie8 - rereg.64on64.cmd then restart.

    6. reset Internet Explorer by the MANUAL of instructions on this page-online http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737

Note => for best results, check the option Remove personal settings .

7 run the Windows Update Troubleshooter from start to finish by the first paragraph on this page-online http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates [2]

    8. restart once more then test by launching a manual check of updates & see if KB2887069 any/all others updated and allows to install now. Follow all the instructions.

    9. assuming all went well, see if Windows 8.1 is available through the store Windows and, if so, if it will be properly installed. Still, follow all the instructions.
