First Time Machine to NAS backup freezes at the same point, Console polluted by the same mistakes.

I just configured my LaCie 5big Network2 act as a time Machine, but it is not back up correctly. When I run it always freezes at 14.70GB/237.71GB, even after deleting the backup and starting up again. I don't know if it of related or not, but the Console is littered with the same error messages (even if Time Machine is not running):

If I stop the backup and restart it, it will get stuck after 7KB. If I delete the backup and starting a new one, it will get stuck at 14,70 Go again. This could be the cause? The NAS is configured correctly and firmware is up to date, disks are operational and functioning perfectly.

My system is a 2015 retina MBP 15 "16GB / 500GB.

Time Machine is a LaCie 5big Network2.

LaCie can support this, but isn't Apple. the NAS can have its own propreitary features or a network can introduce the software is not designed for questions.

If you want to use a NAS for backup, you can consider Carbon Copy Cloner as alternative

  • Using Time Machine for subsequent backups

I would like to know how can I use Time Machine for frequent backups after the initial. Specifically, I want to know how I can assure you that Time Machine DO backup files that have changed since the initial AND only the new backup files that have been added to the hard drive since the last backup?  In other words, Time Machine will do it automatically or it will save all the entire hard drive again?

    Time Machine which will automatically

    Yes.

  • Time Machine crashes during backup

    Hi all

I have a crush of Promise Raid connected to a Mini Mac OS X Server 10.9.5 (Mavericks) running. I have two volumes of backup Time Machine, 1 is a partition of the Raid itself, and the other is a 5 TB USB external drive. The goal was to have Time Machine backup ping-pong between the two. And for a while, that's how it worked.

After about a week of reliable backup, Time Machine will now just hang it on a point in the backup and do nothing. I let it run for as long as 2 weeks just to be sure, but it never moves. I have to jump the backup. Then, it hangs on the other disk in the same exact spot.

I tried to reformat completely each player and the best I've managed to do is backup successfully for nearly a week. Readers have enough space, but for some reason, the backup no longer works.

I've been struggling with this for over a year without success. The worst is that when I think that I have work, I return back to retrieve something and find that he has not worked for a week (or more). Very frustrating.

At this point, I'm looking in a 3rd party like Carbon Copy Cloner utility. But I like the ease and the Time Machine product structure. We do hard backups on DVD, so it's really just for jobs, we kept on our server that exist for about a month before be saved permanently.

    Thanks for the help,

    Rob

I think maybe it's time to give up that hard drive and get a new start.  You might be able to fix it, but I wouldn't try to fix it without already having another backup in place.    The fact that it failed sporadically for more than a year is not a good thing.  Always have at least two copies of any data that is essential at all times *:

Yes. The files are still on the computer so that they will always be saved by Time Machine.

  • Error in connection for the first time, then it works after that (with the same string)

I have a problem of connection error strange that a "OracleConnection.ConnectionString is not valid" with my program ASP.net/c#, but when I try the page again once it works after that.
I create the connection string in the code and then pass it a bit like this:

    * private readonly OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection (oradb); variable in class *.

    * / / in the Page_Load method *.
    _oradb = "password =" + oraPassword + ";". " User ID =' + oraUserName + '; Data source = mydb; » « ;" *
    _conn. Open(); *

User/login name are also generated and inserted in the connection string and when you debug checked the connection string and it's exactly the same every time. It is as if the connection is interrupted and the first time, it attempts to restore, it gives the error, but then it opens the connection after that and failed again in the same window.
Any ideas what this might be caused by? I close the connection to another method, after all I want to be the DB and written on the screen.

The web server is IIS, is the version of .NET 3.5 and the library referenced Oracle is Oracle.DataAccess.dll. In addition, the DB version is 10.2.0.4. Don't know if everything what is necessary, but I thought I'd throw out there, just in case.

When you create here of the OracleConnection object.

    * private readonly OracleConnection conn = new OracleConnection (oradb); variable in class *.

_oradb might be empty or invalid during the first.

    Instead, try this-

    * private readonly OracleConnection _conn = new OracleConnection(); variable in class *.

    * / / in the Page_Load method *.
    _conn. ConnectionString = "password =" + oraPassword + ";". " User ID =' + oraUserName + '; Data source = mydb; » « ;" *
    _conn. Open(); *

  • First Time Machine backup.

I recently bought an external HD Seagate 1 TB to use with Time Machine on my iMac for mid-2011. I have never used TM before, but I have read and looked at some tutorials up to the point where I knew what to do.

The HD has been recognized, I initiated TM, and we left. I would say the average speed was about 1-2 GB / per minute with estimated to finish about 3 hours time. No problem at all.

However... There is now a hold-up. It has been more than 16 hours and I hovered around 28-29 GB for probably 15 of them. Is it normal that the first backup, or have I stumbled on something? I can't wrap my head around the first 28 GB takes less than an hour and next go take more than 15.

For what it's worth, I've selected to encrypt the drive and creates a password.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is a picture of what I see.

Let him finish, if it takes more than 24 hours then start again by formatting the new Seagate in disk under Mac OS extended (journaled) utility and name the backup drive something like Time Machine and back up again. • Time Machine blocked preparation backup

    Hi community

Time Machine, I get the iMac to backup, Time Capsule 371 GB of the preparation phase of backup available 998 GB for one eternity, as others have reported.

My system is an iMac (27-inch, late 2009), processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB video card and a physical disk internal 1 TB ST31000528AS Sata media.

My last backup was September 16, 2016 @ 1257 GMT and my software was the last version of El Capitan.  (I backup to another external HARD drive, using Carbon Copy Cloner and backup guru Mac unfortunately I don't have a big enough other ext HDD to run a time Machine backup to as well).

When the TC is connected I can see the iMac and iMac.sparsebundle backup folder and when I enter the time Machine I can see the chronology running back from 16 Sep and it allows me to access the files in the folders.  So, I guess that the disk HARD of TC is OK.

Software changes have been: 1 MS a copy of CCleaner Free 1.14.451, 2 Ms Security Update 2016-001, 13 Sep Adobe Flash, 14 Sep 12.5.1, 16 Sep Digital Camera RAW compatibility update iTunes.  Never had a problem before with these downloads.  Safari updated September 20, then to Sierra 22 Sep having saved first using the CCC and MBG.

Through the various pages of help through Google.  Follow-up advice given to reset the SMC and the PRAM, deleted Sophos home and com.apple.TimeMachine.plist and com.apple.TimeMachine.plist.lockfile.

Rebooted and restarted the iMac and Time Capsule several times, done many backups check the reset even the time Capsule disk, but all without success.

I'm still stuck in preparation of backup when I reselect the backup drive.

    Can someone help please?

Finally, I had a problem in 2014 when Apple recalled the iMac to a HARD drive replacement program.  This was successful, but a few days later the Time Machine and time Capsule would not save.  This is due to the component change when the UUID was different.  The advice I would have given were to know how inherit backup and controls disk associated within the Terminal. Stupidly, I started again when the TC asked me to and then discovered the Terminal commands a few days later.  The loss of backups of 4 years was no big problem, so I suppose that if I have to, I won't again unless a member of the smart community can better advise me please?

    Good community

I forgot to tell you that I save on a Capsule of 1 GB bought in 2010 with the iMac.

Don't know how, but not before I finished posting my above query Time Machine kicked back in action and performed a backup pick up all the changes, about 50 GB since Sept. 16.

He did once again this morning, so I'm sorry I can't post what Time Machine and my Time Capsule due action to act properly.

I have the same problem. I found this,

macOS, problems of the Sierra: Time Machine backup Mac

Time Machine problems prevented the Mac owners of their devices to backup since the upgrade to Mac OS Sierra, and the problem is widespread enough that Apple has published a guide on what to do if you can't back up:

    Discount for the iMac SMC

    1. turn off the device

    2. unplug the power cord from the monitor

    3. wait 60 seconds

    4 reconnect the power cord

    5. DON'T TURN ON DEVICE

    Reset the PRAM

    1. the computer must always be switched off.

    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: command, Option, P, and r. you need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

    3. press and release the power button to turn on the computer.

    4. press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You have to press these keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold the keys down until the computer is restarted, and you hear the tone of starting for the 3rd time.

    5. release the keys.

You can then try to save again. If this does not work, try to disable indexing on the drive you want to back up.

but I'm not sure it's the same question. I'll try it and report.

It is not an option for the HFS + and so I used; OS x EXTENDED (journaled). GUID is ok.

Can someone let me know what I need to do.

    Thank you

Formatting: GUID Partition Table, OS X Extended (journaled).    (it is HFS +)

For TimeMachine at best to a partition only.

Do it again if necessary, then disconnect, reconnect, Start Time Machine preferences and "select disk".

  • Is time Machine a safe backup

I use Time Machine to back up files on my iMac.

Some of these files (credit card info, etc) can be found in a special Folder.dmg that I created with the disk utility application.

This Folder.dmg is a disk image that is password protected, so whenever I want to access the files in Folder.dmg I have to enter the password that I attributed to him.

My question is: the Time Machine backup, I create also require this password to access the files in Folder.dmg?

(In other if someone steals my back upwards, would words, know the Folder.dmg password to access its content?)

    Thank you very much.

    That is right.

  • Time Machine has decided to completely replace the four years of TC backups

I had four full backups Time Machine of my iMac to my Time Capsule. A couple of weeks ago, I replaced my iMac with a new. Transfer backups has been flawless, worked fine and regular backup recovery continued as before. Then yesterday...

My iMac gave me a message that essentially says that a thorough examination showed my backups were OK, but they all had to be replaced by a completely new iMac backup everything. I said OK. That backup has taken from one day to the next. This morning, I found the new overall backup was available, and I could recover my files, so this seems OK. Now, however, Time Machine says that it's going to save 145 GB (almost all my storage) again. Unless it's just stuck, saying that it is done, but actually does nothing. Everyone knows this? Should I cancel this new full backup or it means that I'll lose the only backup made last night?

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You should NOT have continued using the old backup once you have migrated your files to the new iMac.

The current situation is that the backup is damaged or there simply is not enough space to do a new backup. Neither TM remove enough files to continue to operate.

If you want to keep your old backups. Go to airport utility and use the archive function.

You will need to plug a USB stick formatted properly capacity equal to TB. It will then copy the content of the TC on the disc.

Then, you delete the drive... a quick erase is only a minute or two... and then start a new backup.

  • Time Machine (on Mac) does not detect the airport Time Capsule

Originally posted on the page of the airport, but seems to be the better question for this group. Sorry for the double post

Looking for advice on how to get the Time Machine utility for access to my Time Capsule. I use an iMac in late 2012 with MAC OS 10.12 TimeCapsule is 2015 7.7.7 running latest firmware. Airport utility is the latest firmware 6.3.7.

When I run the application Time Machine, Time Capsule is not detected. I tried the two WiFi and with cables connected Ethernet (not tried USB yet) and my Time Capsule doesn't have a lightning bolt or firewire ports.

Open Airport utility & see the airport time capsule. I can see all connected devices, including the MAC, but no prompt activation Time Machine on the Time Capsule.

I recently used TM on this iMac with a G-Technology drive. It auto detects the time machine and executes a back up. But airport Time Capsule will not.

    Any suggestions?

Sierra has been problematic with the TC.

    1. make sure you don't have any charge virus protection software. In fact, I would say that disable all software 3rd part at the moment.

    2. make sure that you can actually write to disk of TC.

Attach the TC disc in the finder and copy a file on disk, you can delete it later... It's just to ensure that you have full write permission. If it does not for the most part, you won't be able to use Time Machine... If you can then try TM immediately...

Just to be clear, the TC is a network device. You have tested with ethernet and wireless... Ok.. They are only suitable methods. You cannot use USB. And clearly, TC has never had nor will never be ports Firewire or lightning.

    3. no chance that a reset complete TC. This will not delete the files on the hard drive, but you must make sure that the device is configured on the current computer.

    4. There are many positions in these days... read through them and do some research. Sierra is a bleeding edge new... So wait you to spend a lot of the precious liquid if you choose to be an early adopt.
