  I see that a "MVP" edited the title of the question, but it did NOT reflect what the question. Please leave the full question in the title of the post. My problem is not a simple installation of 'failure '. I just want to find out where the entries are which are originally to show 2 Windows Vista o/s when I 'start' my computer when there are 'only' real installation. Note: I have two we HARD a WinXP Pro, the other Vista disks. At the start, it shows "Versions of Windows" and then Windows Vista and finally Windows Vista again. The non-existing o/s installation failed is the 3rd entry.

  I have a friend who just got an OfficeJet 8710 printer and software installation problems.

  She has a computer HP (listed as p6110y), 64-bit Vista Home Prem w/SP2

  When we try to install the software from the CD is States that the operating system is not supported. I went to the HP site and it detected running on Vista and downloaded the webpack_OJ8710_1881.

  A ran it and the same error, the operating system that is not supported. Tried running it as an administrator, even. Went into the temp folder to run the installer directly, even. Uninstalled the old 8600 printer, rebooted, tried the installation, same error.

  Wireless printer and * not * connected USB.

  What else can we try?

  I suggest you to contact the retailer and replace the printer with a different model, the 8710 is not compatible with Vista 64 bit

• Vista SP2 Installation fails (error 800706BE Code) via Windows Update

  I am running Windows Vista Business (32-bit) SP1 and I noticed that Vista SP2 is available for download by manually checking in Windows Update last night.  After having seen that it is a large download (more), I started the download, left my PC and left the House.  When I got home, my screensaver was away and when I attamped my password to disable the screen saver and see where I was in the process of updating, my password did not work.  Then I did a hard reboot but then could not connect under my admin user account.  I've then logged in as my wife (standard user - no password) and went to Windows Update where I noticed that the SP2 for Vista Installation fails (error 800706BE Code).  I spent most of last night and all today so far tried to solve this problem.  There are several problems here... When I click on "Install" in Windows Update, I get a message of "is not necessary: 1 update" (even when I look in the installed updates it says that the update failed).  If it is not necessary, then why is it listed as an important update that must be installed?  Endless loop... In addition, I'm not a password reset for my connection because I have a password saved on a flash drive.  Then I tried using all the older passwords that I remembered and none worked.  Shift caps lock was not on either.  I've logged in as my wife, went to the Microsoft Download page and eventually find the link to download the standalone version of SP2 Vsita, but after downloading the massive file, I didn't have the right to install it because I can not connect as an adminstator!

  (sigh) Can someone please help with this?  Thank you

  Thank you very much for your suggestions!  Your suggestion of restarting, press F8 and choose "repair your computer" worked.  I was able to do a system restore and I chose a date where my old password was still in use (I had just been invited to change a few days before I tried to download Vista SP2).  In addition to losing my cookies and automatically complete IE8 - everything is back to normal.  I have not yet tried a 2nd try to SP2, and I'm very hesitant to do it now!

  I've had this problem for awhile now and it seems to be no details on how to stop the resulting error code.

  The update of the serivce pack seems almost half installed the first time that I have tried (and the first time she didn't).  Whenever I try once again today, the process bar is automatically up to halfway and then it goes all the way to the breast are contiguous 5 minutes and gives this error code.

  This update seems important.  I can download all other updates without problem and downloaded system preparation tool already and tried to install the update by downloading it manually - the same problem occure.

• Hotfix for KB 969168 fails to install. Now what?

  Try running Office XP on a new system cleanly installed Windows 7 64-bit.  I have the symptoms exactly as described in the article KB 969168, concerning the need for the missing Microsoft Agent.  So I asked and received the associated patch.  When I go to install the hotfix, the installation fails with "not applicable to your computer."  Needless to say that the problem of Office XP remains.  What should I do next?

  In addition, Outlook does not retain passwords by e-mail, even if the 'Remember password' is checked.  Is this problem related to the first?

  Thanks to André and lwwinter for your answers.  Even if these solutions can work, for me they came a little late, because a week ago I reluctantly took advice of Marilyn and bought a copy of Microsoft Office 2003.  I felt a bit common for ransom, as I did.  But Office 2003 installed quickly and cleanly and seems to have cured the MSAgent error messages and passwords forgotten in Outlook.  He also seems to have fixed a "trying to change Normal.dot" produced by MS Word XP error message.  Actually, I prefer the interface user of Office XP to Office 2003, but the apparent strength of Microsoft Office 2003 on Win7 assets Office XP.

  The .iso (DVD) image is tailor-made for the installation on the device of Cisco NCS material. To install on any other material, you must first have the VMware ESXi hypervisor and install using the .ova image.
