Flex 10 Legacy BIOS?

Hello

I wish my next laptop Ideapad Flex 10, but I'm afraid I might be restricted to Windows 8 x with 10. Although the Flex 10 is not yet well supported "out of the box" by Linux, it seems that Flex 14 and 15 owners have used some "old BIOS" feature, which at least allowed them to happen at first base with Fedora (and possibly Ubuntu.) What I don't know and need to know, is if the 10 Flex carries the same bios inherited like his older brothers and sisters? I hope that someone here will have a definitive answer. With grateful thanks in advance...

In which case it should be to help others, I received the following reply from Lenovo UK Service Dept:

«I can advise that you will be able to change the operating system of windows 8, if you prefer another operating system for the FLEX 10.» This can be done by changing the options in the BIOS to UEFI boot to legacy mode. All our machine models can do apart from computers that are running the Windows 8 RT operating system. »

  • Possible to install Win 8 of recovery in Legacy Bios mode discs?

Is it possible to install Win 8 of recovery disks in Legacy Bios instead of UEFI mode, as it comes with?

Or will install it automatically use UEFI mode and configure start secure even if your bios is set to Legacy Bios installation mode for Windows 8?

    In addition,

If I install a clean copy of windows 8 from the official Microsoft Windows 8 Core RTM dvd (same version as my system) and it detects and accepts the built in Win 8 product key and key of CD which is built in my Bios and it activates as valid installation and activeted - this void my warranty?

(It's the same exact Windows version and license I paid HP for except it has not added recovery partition or software of HP so I don't think he would cancel warranty... especially since installation has accepted the built in bios keys - but is this correct?)

Don't know everything if the recovery will install in legacy mode, try and see.

Install a different copy of the same version do not cancel the warranty. However sometimes HP will require you to reinstall OS original to avoid the possibility of problems or if you need warranty service. Don't forget to burn your defined recovery disk before destroying the origianl OS.

You can also find it advantageous to burn them to dvd or save to hard drive USB external your C:\SwSetup file with drivers and software provided on the original laptop. Save a lot of time to download on another computer and transfer it later.

  • 23 - d160qd envy: new motherboard, now empty screen and 6 beeps. Cannot change the legacy BIOS. Help!

Good ladies and Gentlemenof the Interwebulars, I hope someone can shed some light on my situation.

Walked down one day to see that my computer would not start. A diagnosis which in a bad power port. Got a new motherboard because after desoldering (or that's what I tried to do) I realized that it was small to (re) welding in and I could not find the right part to reorganize.

so I got a new motherboard. The number replacement part direct. Barefoot on my floor wood and ESD wrsitband on, I put in this bad boy. Double and triple check things and connections. Go to hit the power button and I get 6 beeps and 6 flashes of correspopnding of the powerbutton. The system does not appear to be on, fan is running with the other sounds of starting and running sounds, but I have a white screen and orange electric button. If I tap CTRL + ALT + DELETE it will restart and begin the process again. The 6 beeps by HP standards denotes missing graphics / card error. My original motherboard had a built-in graphics card so I thought that the same new part number card mother too. Obviously not. so I had a Geforce 2Go MXM graphics card update with heat sink. Barefoot, wood floor, bracelet ESD, thermal paste and turn it on to hear... SIX BEEPS AND SCREEN WHITE.

After Googling around, some people say that I have to enter the BIOS and change boot legacy and fashion out of the UEFI mode that's killing me right now. I have join and would completely if I could see my screen of the BIOS, or anything for that matter. I can not go back also to my other card because it will not feed. So my question; How to make or change the BIOS settings so that my computer will recognize a graphics card or internal graphic that should be on the new motherboard itself so that it starts?

I need this computer for CAD work soon so I thought help processor i7, 8GBs RAM, Geforce card and touch screen to perform a generation of PC.  So if someone has a great idea they would projected upward on this post, I'd appreciate it. Thank you!

Your computer is not posting, sound rather give an error message in the form of 6 beeps and red LED flashing, indicating graphics / video issue.

You can never get into the BIOS of the device, if its not posting, not on a HP Desktop atleast.

I recommend, you disconnect all components and fittings connected to the motherboard i.e. cables SATA, power cables, RAM, processor, heatsink, power supply and battery CMOS as well.

Now, press and hold button power unit for a minute or two., with the power and everything is still disconnected.

    Then,.

    (1) Insert the battery CMOS back into its slot, install the processor and the heat sink, connect all cables power that goes to the motherbaord in the PSU and CPU and etc., less SATA cable and cable power to drive hard and Optcal drive and turn on the device, of course after you have connected the rear power cable.

    (2) check if the machine beeps and check whether it is 5 times.

    (3) If yes install a memory in the first slot (slot black), connect the monitor and turn on the power and check if there is no video output.

    (4) if so, connect the return which is always disconncted, to their respective locations and ports and turn them the unit on and get on with your CAD stuff.

    IF NO,

    2 options:

    (1) if the unit is still under warranty, call 1800-474-6836 and have a technician on-site visit your place and replace the parts needed for the operational unit.

    (2) or the motherboard you purchased could have been Dead On Arrival. Get a warranty replacement for the DOA mobo and re install a new Board of Directors.

    Good luck!

  • Lenovo X 1 tablet UEFI/Legacy Bios?

OK, so the manual on the site Web of Lenovo for the X 1 tablet is actually for a carbon. Can a rep of Lenovo confirm or deny the X 1 tablet with strives boot mode. I can't find it in the awkward new bios manu seem to use nowdays.

He has no legacy on the X 1 Tablet mode option. And as it uses m2 (sata iii and NVMe) Windows 10 is available only preload will not be taken in charge for Windows 7 without the legacy option combined with a sata drive iii m2.

  • HP ENVY 17-n013na: the Legacy BIOS boot option does not work

    Support dear HP team,

I recently bought for laptop HP ENVY 17-n013na .  It came with Windows 8.1. I have to install Windows 7. Unfortunately, the legacy in BIOS boot option does not work for me. Here is detailed information:

    BIOS version: F.04 Rev 5.0

I tried updating to the latest version of the BIOS on the Support site.

To activate the option to boot legacy, I followed the following steps:

    • Entered, BIOS configuration utility
    • Go to the System Configuration
    • > Boot options
    • Changed the setting to the Legacy Support on " Enabled"
    • F10 - save changes & exit

Now, after the restart, if I go once more, configuration of the BIOS Legacy Support is set to disabled. Whenever I have change to active BIOS, Save & Exit, it is up to the people with reduced mobility. Because of that I can't run the installer of Windows 7 DVD.

Please provide any help & suggestions.

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Eugene

  • HP pavilion 17 e040us: hp pavilion 17 MSC legacy bios recovery

I changed my HP to start with legacy CSM, but I couldn't boot from the Windows 7 boot disk.  The laptop came with Windows 8, configured for the UEFI boot before my change.   The screen after startup is empty and now I can not even access the bios menu.

I tried a Windows 8 USB recovery disk, but the computer does not seem to try to boot from flash, even with the drive disconnected and the drawer open.

I watched a video of a man to disassemble a HP Pavilion completely down to the base plate, but I have not seen a backup or RTC battery anywhere in the computer.  If I could find the battery backup of the bios to remove or reset the bios somehow with the material, I would.  I waited 4 hours without main battery attached without change.  At this point I don't know if this Pavilion model has same battery backup.  Anyone know how to reset the bios to UEFI preset without the bios menu?  Please note that push F2/F8/F9/F10/F11 and a whole bunch of other buttons does not bring the bios menu at startup (as he did when he was in UEFI mode).

My next steps are to use the HP Recovery Media application on a 2nd computer create 6 window 8 DVDs and see if it boots from the CD.  If this does not work, I'll call HP support and see if they can send me a custom recovery disk.

It seems odd that I can't even a menu of bios in legacy mode.  Is this normal?  I suspect that my change of something corrupt configuration and no boot will no longer work.  If the start of the disc does not work, I think I'm stuck with trying to sell some source of backup power keeps the bios State, however long it is.

Hmm, I got the same answer. I found the document at the following ADDRESS.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-17-notebook-PC-series/5375409/model/5447381/document/c01684768/

A hard reset can be solved that. If this isn't the case, you can try to recover the BIOS.

For BIOS recovery information, see the document at the following ADDRESS.

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-17-notebook-PC-series/5375409/model/5447381/document/c02693833

BTW, now you know why the warning of changing mode in the BIOS to the CSM has been posted.

"Are there ways to do it without software or firmware?  The short answer is the above procedure.

  • Legacy BIOS or UEFI

Hi guys, I have a laptop HP G6-1336SA running Windows Pro 8.1 (with Media Center is of no relevance). I am aware, there are two versions of the BIOS available, legacy & UEFI, my question is what should I use? I currently have the latest version of the F.6A of BIOS Inysde and it is in "Legacy" mode, the standard I am led to believe.

I would like to know the difference between the two modes of BIOS, which would be more effective on my system, the problems of changing mode (like having to delete everything and the product key may not be recognized as some claim) and how I would go about switching modes?

Thank you for your time, it is greatly appreciated.

(This laptop has Windows 7 pre-installed, I understand that it can make the difference)

There is one type of the BIOS. Version F.6A is the newest BIOS available for your computer. The BIOS for this model supports UEFI, which is an extension of the BIOS firmware.

As you describe, "Legacy" and "UEFI" refer to boot devices. In General, boot devices will divide into "Legacy" and "UEFI" with UEFI having precedence over the inheritance. UEFI allows the use of hard drive 3 TB for the boot device and is necessary for booting from a GPT-partitioned drive.

There are no modes "BIOS" and no changes until Windows 8 has been installed at the factory on computer models of HP. At that time, a feature called 'Secure Boot' has been added which locks rogue malware mostly and some valid boot media. On these systems, the use of a feature called 'Legacy Support' disables "Secure Boot" and refers to the ability to boot from old valid media. Your computer most likely does not have these features.

Please see on UEFI and the Boot Menu for more information.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

  • S205 & Win8 - how to force the legacy BIOS mode?

    Hello

AFAIK the S205 features of two different interfaces:
    Legacy and UEFI BIOS.

Windows 8 is compatible with both.
With the help of UEFI, Windows will partition the drive with TPG.
Using the BIOS, it will be with the MBR.

The main problem is that - probably due to malfunction of the drivers - there are a few major problems when using GPT with this netbook. You can find many discussions about cards WiFi works do not for example.

I'm looking for is an option to start the installation of Windows 8 through the BIOS from a USB interface.
The S205 does not have an optical drive and I not one or the other.

Thanks in advance for any help.

PS: As it is not a driver issue, I'm not this announcement in forum Windows 8.

After some research, it comes to use successfully the Ralink Wifi with Windows 8 on the s205 - own USB Installer.

You must install Windows 8 in legacy mode (click on "IDE" in BIOS).

BUT - you must * also * remove "bootmgr.efi" and USB \efi\, before installing. If you do not, the USB key will still install in EFI!

If you have already installed Windows 8 IDE USB mode, you should check whether your installation is IDE/legacy or EFI - open this log file:

    \Windows\Panther\setupact.log

    Search this text:

    Callback_BootEnvironmentDetect: Environment detected: BIOS

    = you have IDE/legacy install

    .. .or

    Callback_BootEnvironmentDetect: Environment detected: UEFI

    = you have EFI install

(This information is extracted from http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=209045)

If you see EFI/UEFI in the log file, you must reinstall Windows 8.

The only problem I have now is that Windows is freezing sometimes, so I intend to reinstall from different USB drives in the event of corruption of file etc.

    I hope this helps.

  • Legacy bios boot vs uefi

so the only way I could figure at the start of media to clean install was to boot from... legacy mode is there an "easy way" to swap the boot of inheritance in uefi? I only ask because it takes about 3 minutes to boot from legacy instead of 20 seconds and my ssd drive is missing?

If you dΘmarrez from a USB drive.

The USB key must be created in the UEFI-bootable mode, otherwise it will not be recognized in UEFI mode.

  • BIOS, do not recognize the legacy

I have a laptop of E1-572-5870. It had Windows 7 Home premium House on it.

I had a discussion with one of your technicians that was not helpful. It was to send my laptop old days in a repair center in Texas. This isn't a good solution to say to your customers. I'll take that back to the store and get my money back until I have send it to a repair center. It's a stupid solution!

I am trying to use MBR instead of TPG. Whenever I have install Windows it affects as TPG even if the BIOS is configured to use inheritance. I've updated the BIOS to 2.17 and the question remains. The BIOS is configured to use inheritance, which, from experience, is a MBR partitioning scheme. So, if this is defined, is why my Windows Installer put GPT?

The disk is locked? I need to replace the disc you flashed firmware and requires this setting? There is no value in forcing a 2 TB GPT drive less.

I opened diskpart, cleaned up the score, converted to MBR and tried to install. Windows always ends with GPT instead of MBR.

Should what steps I take to make my MBR partitioning scheme?

    Thank you!

Secure boot is disabled by default. If I select UEFI, save, restart, then it gives me the possibility to enable/disable secure boot.

Being an engineer and in industry for 15 years and more, I find it ridiculous that I can't put it on the MBR. Acer did something to midigate a MBR partition scheme. Not sure if it's a BIOS problem, or a problem of firmware on the drive. The fact that the Legacy BIOS option does nothing is fubar. I can do only one thing and that is replace the hard drive. If that fails, I take this back and will never buy an Acer again. I never had this much trouble getting a custom system.

Thanks for the link and the philetus help!

  • UEFI or Legacy on T3610 BIOS?

    I want to buy a T3610.

Dell offers with Win 7 Pro license Win 8, retrograde.

I guess that means that Win 7 Pro 64 bit is installed, with option to upgrade to earn 8 at later date.  True?

I want to start multiple Windows 7 and the various flavors of Linux (Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora) on this machine.

Linux has often problems multi-boot with Windows if Windows is installed by using startup UEFI_GPT_secure. (I know secure boot can be disabled)

    Can someone tell me definitively:

When the T3610 is shipped, Win 7 Pro 64 bit over Legacy/bios UEFI mode or?

    Thanks in advance.

I got an answer for you. Default is Legacy in Window 7 Pro.
