  We use 5.6.10 Foglight to monitor our production environment (VMware, Oracle, MS SQL, EMC Storage) and some time ago, has also decided to try Foglight NMS for just a few critical devices (UPS in the server room and some basic switches) and integrate it with Foglight.

  But now it seems that the product is EOL.

  So my questions are:

  1. I remember the product was free up to 100 devices, it's always like that? I've heard of representative commercial, changed up to 100 ports instead of devices... Even if it is true, I am still below, sostill want to use it.

  2. How do we get for free (up to the limit of devices/ports), but the license permanent?

  I just downloaded the free licensefor of 100 unit Foglight NMS, installed on a windows server 2003 SP2, but when I activated the software, it says that it is a trial software which runs on 2 Sep 2011 (fully updated).

• Unable to get the Netflow data in Foglight NMS

  Hello everyone I hope that there are people out there who can give me a helping hand. I recently installed Foglight NMS version 6.8.24371 and I'm trying to do declare my my Adtran Netvanta 3305 netflow traffic information. I have setup the netflows on my router for export. The router indicates he sent successfully to my foglight agent ip address. With wireshark, I checked that he has actually flows from the router with my agent machine (which is the Studio is installed as well). I've also temporarily installed Scrutinizer and I managed to collect netflow data. If I do a check condition of monitoring it shows it has collected any netflow. Any help troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

  Is a feature of netflow in a policy where the NetFlow monitor is selected? Also, please click on the option settings, to the right of the screen. Make sure all the boxes are ticked.

  I've recently migrated to the Dell TechCenter of Quest Foglight communities website.  Can you please tell me where is the Foglight NMS forum?  I know that this product is more actively developed by Dell, but it is always supported and ancient communities of NMS Foglight (http://communities.quest.com/community/nms?view=all) provided a good location for information, support and assistance.

• Foglight NMS reports - empty

  Nice day

  A week from today, all regular reports I've had during installation, are empty. The graphics are empty.

  They were all network utlization.

  I tried to reset the DB update everyhting. I don't see any errors what so ever.

  Someone has experienced this or know what could be the problem.

• A few questions about NMS...

  Im trying foglight nms... so far, I have a few questions...

  1 - can I configure and modify the alert message I get?, customize the message.

  2 - I insert variables in the alert message? That is to say: a disk of raid or fail FAN I would like to add a variable in the message which shows me the disk or fan number that failed.

  3 - I created an alert for the space drive... but if the server has 3 partitions/drives... I can't indicate which drive I would watch... If a drive i.e./home has 90% of used space, I want to set up an alert when it reaches 95%... (or 5% free space) and for the other/partition var put in place an alert when it reaches 30%. I can tell only the disc I want to?

  4. same number 3 but with interfaces... If I have 2 interfaces and want to only monitor a...

  5-if I have 6 instances of apache running, I can set up an alert when there are 2 or less running instances?

  6 - How can I monitor the health of some dell/hp servers physically... FAN CPU, berries, status... raid controller power supply

If you have more than one drive, but set the threshold for the alert, it will apply to all volumes, unless you remove one or more of them to surveillance.

• Get Foglight to monitor my device

  I am a graduate student working on my master's degree in business management and technology with no technical information. (This major does not require to have a university education back in IT or computer). I'm working on my master's project which involves research, updated implementation, integration, testing and evaluating technology chosen in a virtual laboratory provided through my University. I am a new user to Foglight NMS and I'm having problems. Whenever I connect to Foglight, the 'add devices Wizard"appears each time I close on the Foglight NMS knowledge base. I think that my problem lies in the configuration of SNMP or WMI. After reading the instructions several times and try to configure the SNMP and WMI, I don't get my expected results - the ability to monitor the activity on the network. I tried to pull up a report for a summary of Network Performance, but it displays no data. However the "health of the unit" shows use 'active' for the processor and the memory. I am attaching screenshots illustrating my setup. Please notify.

  In the report window, there is a button 'Select device' at the top. If you choose the option "all devices", doesn't change what is the report?

• Foglight FMS server

  I tried to see how to get the FMS of Foglight Server as it doesn't seem to be a product, what I am hoping is that, if I can get the FMS of Foglight Server I can fill a gap where I can get my Foglight NMS alerts in my current environment of SCOM.  I don't want to give up that I bought a few months ago to go to another product that has the integration of SCOM.

  Any info that it's possible would be greatly appreciated.

  (FMS) Foglight Management Server is indeed point principal of aggregation and integration of the Foglight framework. You can start the process of obtaining an administration here Server trial download: http://www.quest.com/foglight or by registering at support.quest.com.

  A high level overview you will need to do is:

  1. to organize a trial of the Foglight Management Server (you may want to work with our sales or pre-sales teams to get this set up)

  2. Once you have a FMS running, you will integrate your Foglight NMS information into the FMS using Foglight NMS integration cartridge.

  3. in addition to the cartridge of NMS integration, you'll need an additional integration Foglight cartridge - cartridge allows you to integrate with a variety of third parties, including SCOM FMS systems. There is a video on the SCOM integration that you can find here:

  Note that the video was made with vFoglight (which is simply the FMS put in place with a cartridge of monitoring VMWare), but also long as you have the Foglight cartridge for installed integrations, the process must be the same.

  I'm looking for a solution monitor network traffic coming from specific IP address and Port 192.168.1.1:80 for example. If there is no packets transferred on Port 80 in the last 15 minutes the NMS should generate an alert.

  I thought about the flow of network traffic, which monitors traffic. But did not find any alerts that can be generated.

  Or any other tool that can help me with this problem?

  This feature is currently unavailable. You can control whether a port is open or closed. You can also set an alert if traffic is zero in a period of time, but it will be evaluated for always guarded port.

• Strange network activity

  I see the networking between the Foglight NMS (ptserverservice.exe) and support.microsoft.com. The service is looking for URL/kb/949104, which seems to be an update to fix Windows Update Agent and is looking for all the minutes.

  Hi Sandy,

  Close all open studios. Right click on the shortcut of studio and select Properties. You will find the target domain is highlighted and ends with the string "/ studio". Carat SPACEBAR space bar right support and the type of job / advanced so that the ground ends by ' / studio support / advanced "." Click OK and run the studio.

  Select a device where the patches are defective. Make a right click Select view-> Windows Update log. This will tell you exactly why a patch is a failure.
