Folder I386 - an alternative to the restore CD?

Hello

I have a non bootable Windows in C drive and I need to fix it. I can access the Recovery Console by using my Windows XP disk and try to repair Windows, but the instructions I found on some sites to fix Windows not worked for me.

As I have two hard drives, I installed a new Windows on the D drive and have been successful to start. That's how I'm able to type this now.

I did not have a recovery CD, but have heard that you can use I386 directory C to do a restore on your system with the settings without needing a recovery CD. As the restore CD erases the drive clean of all documents, programs, etc., using I386 seems to be a good work around as it'S NOT REMOVE YOUR VALUABLE FILES.

Peut-solmeone you please guide me on how to use I386 to restore my C drive to the factory settings, while leaving my files intact?

Thanks for reading.

Hi lewis,

It s a good idea to restore the system from this folder, but that you didn t included is:

It is not fair to this folder. For example, you have the registry file, which is not only confined to this folder on the SYSTEM.
Then, please Don t forget the tools & utilities Toshiba, which are some special functions of your machine. All these tools are separated to install,
and not in this folder, etc etc etc...

If I were you, I would back up my data and restore my system with the recovery cd.

Welcome them

    Hello

No, unless there's something wrong with the part the drive on which the Restore Points are
writing the. He would remove them is possible but unlikely. If you want to see
If drive a mistake yet not be repaired then run CheckDisk (chkdsk) and
do not check the option FIX or RECOVER. Checkdisk will then tell you if there
all errors and where they are. Then, if necessary, and there are errors, you can run
CheckDisk again with the FIX (/ f) and necessary RECOVERY options (/ r).

  • Recovery partition exist but the RESTORATION is not possible

    Hello world

I have a problem for my laptop (Dell XPS 15) recovery. I have the RECOVERY partition on my computer with all the files... all together 7 GB including Factory.wim. During execution of the restore process, described millions of times on the internet, I've not found an option with "DATASAFE."... "neighter"restore to factory State. I tried different ways, but the main thing is that the COMPUTER does not see the FACTORY.wim. I get notification indicating that the IMAGE file was not found. What could be the reason and how can I solve this problem.
Thank you very much for all the feedback.

    Damian

    Hello
Sometimes, the problem is solved by the person who posted it... and when his ppl makes you forget the forum.
Therefore, here. I had a partition that had all the files recovery. But, as mentioned previously, I could not restore to factory stage.

What I did was copy THE FILES from the recovery partition RECOVERY (there is a folder named Recovery) in windows-> recovery... or as long as the file is placed in your computer... I had to look it up.

Bottom line is I search in MY COMPUTER the EXACT files that were contained in the file Recovery on a recovery Partition and replace them. (of course, to make a copy in CASES WHERE). When I started computer even once, I could already click the ICON of RECOVERING FACTORY...

YES, it WAS so SIMPLE... and no HELP DELL MOVE FINGER IT...!
    Hope this works for you

Upgrade to Win 7 32 bit to 64 bit

I'm about to upgrade my PC 32 bit to Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.  I wonder if the program data folder can be reused with the 64-bit version?  If so, it would save a lot of time.  Also should I re - activate the copy and should I do before relocation to prevent Microsoft telling me that I have a pirated copy!

I can assume that the restoration of Win 7 would not achieve what he would actually have to go back in time 32-bit!  Or not?

All the advice of those who did this would be welcome.

(PC is 64-bit capable and I will have saved all the data as usual files to an external source).

    Thanks in advance.

No, you will need to reinstall all your applications and install native 64-bit drivers for your hardware.

Make sure that you back up your 32-bit installation before upgrading:

    http://www.notebooks.com/2009/10/24/how-to-backup-your-installation-of-Windows-7/

You will need to do a clean install, there is no place on the way to upgrade Windows 7 32 bit to 64 bit.

Using the disk of 64-bit Windows 7, install Windows 7 Windows Easy Transfer Utility from the DVD (to find it, simply navigate to x:\support\migwiz, "x:" is the name of your hard drive. (In this case, you will see a collection of files, the important"that you must search for and double-click is 'migsetup'.) run it and create a DAMP (Windows Easy Transfer file), if you have an external hard drive, you can access it later when you perform a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit disk so you can stored there.

Once you have done this, just do a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit disc. In Windows 7 64 bit disk, start Windows Easy Transfer, follow the wizard screen, tap on which is stored the WET file (external hard drive) and it will restore your personal files and settings. Reinstall the applications needed.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7

Windows 7 64 bit comes in handy when you need to deal with at least 4 GB of RAM or more. Windows 7 32 bit can use up to 3.2 GB of RAM. Because the address space of memory is much larger for 64-bit Windows, this means that you need two times more memory than the 32-bit Windows to accomplish some of the same task, but you are able to do much more, you can have more apps open, do things like run a virus scan in the background it will affect the performance of your system. 64-bit Windows 7 is safer too, malicious code cannot easily infiltrate it, drivers are more reliable because they must be signed before it can work with 64 bit Windows 7.

Regarding compatibility, you need device drivers 64-bit hardware devices, you may have. In addition, there is no 16-bit subsystem in Windows 7 64-bit, which means, your applications must be 32-bit only, not 16-bit Installer or programs uninstaller.

Your question is a bit confusing, you can boot the laptop at all? Have you tried booting in safe mode, you can make a recovery DVD set from there, the folder Toshiba.

With the drive in the Toshiba, you should be able to use a F, F10, F11, or F12 key to activate the installation from the partition hidden started upward.

Otherwise, you can contact Toshiba, and with the model of the product id number and the laptop for Windows, you can buy a set of disks.
